I watched Buried a couple of weeks ago and I can honestly say that it's one of the most intense, gripping films i've ever seen. Never have I rooted for a character so much. A must watch IMO.

What a tense, uncomfortable film it was, they captured the feeling so perfectly, it sounds like a terrible idea for a film but they got it so spot on

What's that film about Sandra bullock who gets kidnapped at a petrol station and then buried alive or something? Can anyone remember?

Is it actually called buried alive?

Moonlight.

Idk... I'd still give it a 9/10 because of how well it was made, the acting, the storyline, the themes touched upon... but it felt a bit rushed? There didn't seem to be a lot of events played out on screen, it relied a bit too heavily on us to just fill in the gaps between the three chapters ourselves. And whilst I love the cast, I can't quite work out what of Mahershala Ali's performance was long or emotive enough to deserve the acting nominations over, say, Ashton Sanders or Jharrel Jerome (I felt the teenage segment of the film was the strongest)

And I really felt a bit blase about the ending. A lot of tension but not much else to those scenes.

But yes this is a lot of negative writing about a film I otherwise quite enjoyed. Can just see quite easily why it's not going to win Oscars.

Dreamgirls with my daughter. Beyonce was good but the other girl from the voice was better. She had an excellent voice. Didnt know the third "dream" but she didnt have a big part.

7/10 because i like songs but not too many. R.

It's a really bleak and uncomfortable watch but yeah, it's filmed so well that it's basically like a "buried alive simulator" I thought .

My only gripe with the film was that some of the "on the phone" voice actors weren't great... which really stood out because Ryan Reynolds was good in it.

Just came back from Snowden with my colleagues.
A good movie, very interesting learning more about it, a bit too lengthy but it's worth the time.
Joseph's doing a good job.

Watched "It Follows" last night. Decently creepy in places but all maybe a bit underdeveloped. A solid 7/10 though I would say.

Paterson - Huge Adam Driver fan so I definitely liked it, not a lot going on and most people would probably hate it but it was good escapism for a couple of hours even if nothing really happens. Basically a bus driver in a small US town writing poetry. Quite funny. 8/10

Silence - A bit hit and miss. Really really good cinematography and really good acting performance from Andrew Garfield, but it goes on a bit too long and the story is a bit hit and miss. Felt like falling asleep at a few parts but to be fair to it it drags you back in and you start to enjoy it again. If you go to the to enjoy and laugh at a film I'd say it isn't for you.. 8/10

Manchester by the Sea, should win its awards at the oscars, especially Affleck who is amazing, but probably won't because of all the court cases and stuff. The supporting actor is great too but probably doesn't stand a chance of winning anything. Heartbreaking but still very funny. Nice shots of America too, the less glamorous parts you don't often get to see.. 10/10

Ghostbusters (2016 one)

Haven't seen the original in a long time but obviously this relied a lot on it... the cameos were unexpected (hadn't heard anything about those appearing) and nicely worked in. And whilst I have a varying degree of love for the 4 actresses involved (McKinnon > Wiig > Jones > McCarthy) it's um... let's say Feig peaked with his first film (Bridesmaids). Too many asides - muttered comments that're written by people who like puns and tweets and one-liners rather than actors being able to deliver memorable comedy.

CGI and action and all of that stuff was great, and it was an enjoyable movie, and obviously I'm going to defend it against the hordes of angry misogynists online, but yeah it's not a memorable one. I'd give it a 5 or a 6.

Buried (2010) - 8.5/10

I was craving a thriller film so I decided to watch this last night as it sounded really promising and it certainly delivered. It's one of those films that leaves you feeling uneasy throughout. The direction and Ryan Reynold's performance were excellent.

I agree. Being buried alive is one of my biggest fears and this film captured the realism of it. I'd honestly rather be burnt alive.

Suicide Squad.

Part of me wants to just write "loud, stupid garbage" but...well that would be flippant.

I wanted to like it. I love the DC universe. But the current studios and production are driving it into the ground and it's upsetting to watch. I'm not getting into the whole Marvel vs. DC debate because it's tedious and obstructive of a pretty simple question: "are the movies good?" Man of Steel was not, and this was not. (I haven't seen Batman vs. Superman)

I also liked Zack Snyder's Watchmen... but it stayed pretty loyal to a standalone comic series that was hyper-stylish, had a gorgeous setting and was reasonably well-acted by a group of actors that weren't too distracting. Everything else of his I've seen is pretty nonsense.

A list of terrible things about this movie.
- The soundtrack. Songs pop up out of nowhere at the most inopportune moments and turn the whole thing into a 15 year old's media project entitled "Why Comics Are Awesome!" Any tension, action or driven plot suffers from a 80% chance of being interrupted by unnecessary budget expenses. I'm sure Queen and whoever's surviving of the Animals aren't complaining though.
- Cara Delevigne (sp?) Girl can't act. She's everywhere. Why? She's awful. She plays perhaps the most interesting character of this entire movie with a year 6 nativity level of command.
- Pencil thin characterisations. If you're going to introduce everyone in a roster like some done-to-death heist setup, chances are no one's really going to care about them. I mean... would anyone have missed Boomerang, Killer Croc, the fire guy or Katana from this?
- Broad characterisations as well. Think I lost track of the number of "esé"s used in whatever dialogue there was with Diablo. Jokes made about Katana may as well have gone "ching ching chong", they were that tasteless. And having Margot Robbie go "...what?" after pulling on the shortest shorts imaginable as a cheeky "haha wouldn't it be awful if we all just gawked at her ass" wink from the writers isn't the most convincing deterrent from this being quite obviously "comic guys being as sleazy and wanky as is expected".
- Jared Leto. The Joker was always going to be impossible to follow after Ledger but oh god this was as subtle as a brick. He was neither menacing enough to incite fear nor engaging enough to boast unpredictability. I'm still having trouble getting over the idea to have the words "HAHAHAHAHAHAHA" all over his walls, tattooed on his skin... who the **** comes up with this?
- Slow-mo. That end sequence with everyone finally taking witch-lady down took forever. I can't recall a single scene where I was blown away by the choreography of the fights.
- Nonsense plot points. Waller shooting her entire staff felt tacked-on to hammer home some point about "there are no good guys really!!!" Witches and sun-gods being vulnerable to a minor bomb. Harley Quinn and Boomerang being at all remotely useful in this team. Flag falling in love with poor Moore lady over a timeline that must've been three weeks. Moore thinking "let's snap the head off this artifact" in that cave. Deadshot's daughter thinking "let's separate daddy and Batman". Diablo just happening to be as large and powerful as the Incubus guy. I'm sure there's 20 more.

A list of things I enjoyed about this movie.
- Will Smith, Viola Davis, Margot Robbie. They all brought it.
- General theme of the Enchantress, not a character I was aware of before and a rather fresh (ish?) one. The asphalt-looking mess left behind by her and her brother's odd little propulsions was quite gruesome and spectacular to look at.
- Special effects were neat I guess?

Overall... it's hard to score this anything above a 4. I'd give it a 3.
