I always felt Jackie just picked on Callum because she thought he was an easy target and wouldn't stand up for himself.
Some ridiculous 'class issue' never even crossed my mind until last night when Callum spoke in the diary room. He mentioned being proud to come from a council estate, and that he felt Jackie just judged and didn't like him on his appearance. He also said that she looked on him and treated him like a piece of dirt. I felt bad for him tbh. I don't think his feelings about this just came out of nowhere, he must have been feeling looked down upon and judged for quite some time now. Then in the garden Jackie telling Callum that he wouldn't be in touch with Charlie, and when Callum said "why? Because you say so Jackie?" she just said yes. Who the feck is she to say who Charlie can or can't stay in touch with on the outside, or to judge that Callum is not good enough to be 'allowed' stay in touch with her daughter. Jackie's friend on BOTS also said that the Travers are "posh totties" and that Callum was boxing "out of his league". In the video that seems to have been removed from youtube - the one where Jackie and Callum somewhat make up. Just before Jackie goes into speak with Callum, herself Charlie and Hazel are all in the garden speaking about who Charlie will keep in touch with. Charlie says that she will probably keep in touch with Dexter, although says, "but Callum -No.", and Hazel makes some other comment about about Callum either punching above his weight or being out of her league as well. I was disappointed Charlie said that. She doesn't fancy him and that's of course fine, but she acts like she sees him as a close friend in the house so to say she wouldn't even stay in touch with him outside seems odd to me. Was she only saying that to keep mummy dearest happy? If it was really just the vt Jackie had an issue with she would also still hate Dexter. But she says it was only Dexter's gameplaying that she didn't like and that she has warmed to him. Despite Callum having told her that his vt was not true and Dexter maintaining that his was true! She thinks it was true that Dexter had a different girlfriend for every type of thing he wanted to do, and that he could pick and choose from his blondes and brunettes etc. but still prefers Dexter over Callum who has admitted he lied on his. The vt thing must just be an excuse for her dislike. Someone on digital suggested that perhaps the only reason Dexter is deemed good enough to stay in touch with Charlie is because they believe him that he really has contacts in entertainment, and as we know Charlie wants a record deal. What about Jackie's family makes her think she's so great? Would Charlie be much better in there without her? Is it just utter snobbishness that makes Jackie dislike Callum? (Imo the answer to the last 2 questions is yes.) |

I agree 100% with this post, thanks for that. You really put it well. I'm sick of both the Travers. Jackie belittles Callum and Charlie uses him and takes advantage of him. I also felt a lot for Callum yesterday night. But to be fair it's not the first time Jackie has put him down like that. Remember when she kept harping on about how he wasn't 'fit to be a teacher, and would lose his job'? It's ridiculous how much she looks down on him and I can't wait to see her evicted tonight.

Perhaps Jackie feels council estate people aren't fit to be teachers.

To make sure Charlie doesn't get too close to any 'undesirables' no doubt!

I'd dislike him if he was giving my daughter slimy looks all the time and was freakishly abnormal around her. Same with Dexter, I'd dislike him for his gameplaying.

It is quite possibly the answer, she does hold herself in high esteem.
Charlie is using Callum but then I think her gameplay is to be everyone's friend and get to the final. So she will use any of them. Good gameplay but far too nasty for me. |

I've kinda liked Charlie so far, but I'm going to keep a closer eye on her now. I'm hoping that Jackie goes tonight and that Charlie improves without her Mum being there monitoring her every move.

What about a dab of jealousy? Charlies getting attention from two men, what attention is she getting? Why would someone want to come on the show with their daughter anyway? Chalie and Jackie argue alot at home, could their be competativeness there.
Jackies becoming moany and arguementative with everyone, when your highlight of a days show is moaning at Dexter for asking for seconds you gotta ask yourself maybe its time to go. Thanks for the "class" point aswell, a valid viewpoint. They may be higher class but Charlie isnt the most tactful socially skilled one of the bunch, neither is her arguementative mother. You can have all the class in the world but actually lack any when it comes to handling yourself. |

she doesn't like him cause he is untrustworthy and creepy.
he said he was ladies man jack the lad he went in and became the complete opposite. being overally nice to everybody to the point of throwin up. and chasing her daughter even though she isnt interested, he got sussed out and got put up for eviction. then fearing he would go he completely changed his act again starting on wolf havin a go at dex etc being bitchy and weird. and very cocky like sophie and everybody in there says. so why doesn't jacky like poor callum ? lol now he has act 3 the sympathy vote. poor me im from a council house im the boy up the road he repeats it over and over every chance he gets. but why does he try to speak like tony blair? if he is from a council house eveything is contrived. she doesn't like him cause he isn't real and still isn't being real funny thing is he might be ok if he dropped the game plans.

Callum admitted that he had lied in his vt, Dexter maintains that he was truthful and that he really was that way with women, so why does she prefer and like Dexter but won't even give Callum a chance? She complained about him being too nice but when he started speaking his mind more he gets accused of acting again or even worse - being 'aggressive'. He just can't win! |

Yes, but we don't know anything about previous boyfriends. She is a control freak who has said she cant bear her adult children to be away from her. When they are she tries to keep busy??? That is dreadful IMO. She said this very early in the series. Very sad needy woman.

Before all that I felt Charlie genuinely liked him, and he seemed very close to Sophie too. I feel it's sad that they all turned on him. I feel that any personality change he had he was pushed into. If you are constantly day after day getting slated for being "too nice" and "fake" then of course you will snap eventually and start disliking and being less nice towards these people who are saying that to to you. But then because he gets annoyed, and because he starts to make more of an effort to be a bit more opinionated in an attempt to stop being labelled as fake, he then gets slated for acting the big lad or being aggressive. If Jackie doesn't like him because of personality changes then fair enough (although I think she still disliked him before he ever started speaking up to her), but then why also not dislike Dexter for the same thing? Everyone in house hated Dexter for being a sneaky snake, gameplaying, spreading stories between people lying etc. Suddenly he starts licking all their arses, and develops 'feelings' for Charlie and now he is a lovely person because he is being himself and "stopped his silly gameplaying". Why isn't his new-found 'niceness' called fake? Why is he not still being called untrustworthy and a gameplayer for his sudden personality change? [Not directing these questions solely at you btw, just asking them in general] I just don't believe the reasons Jackie gives for disliking Callum, because she seems to have started liking Dexter for the same reasons as she dislikes Callum. - Changing personality etc. |

one interesting thing i found was sophie saying he is cocky etc that wasn't from dam that was her and they all agreed. we dont see it all. and for her to say that was interesting. jacky likes dexter more cause he knows how to act with people he is never nasty or bitchy unlike callum he never raises his voice. etc etc. and isnt all over charlie. he keeps a respectful distance. plus really i just think its cause they find him amusing and interesting. where as callum is well weird. jacky dont trust neither of them. but callum tries to hard he annoys her it seems. i think her dislike is valid. the threatening thing prob not.

I agree with you though that Jackie calling him threatening or aggressive is wrong, and I also agree with you that Dan is normally quite astute at picking up on things and reading people - regarding Callum though I don't think he's right. I think his anger at getting nominated by Callum and subsequently being up for eviction clouded his judgment regarding Callum. |
