Default Do you want to be buried or cremated when you die?

I'm getting a bit morbid because lunch is over an hour away but how do you want to go? Buried in a plot? Your own mausoleum? Cremated? Turned into a ring? Flaming funeral pyre sent out into the sea?

Buried. I love the idea of my rotting body becoming a mini eco-system and providing sustenance to the land and other animals. I'll have a biodegradable coffin as well

Death providing for life is beautifully poetic.

Might as well go out in style... I'd definitely be cremated and I love the sea, so flaming funeral pyre seems the way to go.

That's very honourable of you Mizzy. Are you an organ donor or would that conflict with leaving your body to science?

Did you know when someone gets cremated and you get their ashes, its not actually their ashes? My dad told me this a few weeks back at my grandmothers cremation. Apparently they only do the furnaces once or twice a week and they just give you dust rather than 'real' ashes.

Also one of my mums mates used to work in a cremation place, and they do not burn the coffin. They keep it to sell on. Or they did in the one he worked at.

I can well believe that, given the extortionate prices they get away with charging for them. I bet theres like 1000 coffins to go round the whole country and they just rotate them. They must love when people chose cremations rather than burials.

Oh god! Pretty gruesome but it's probably been done for centuries! I'm not surprised about the ashes thing but it's so awful to do that; you want to be able to scatter the ashes of your loved one and not just... a bag of dust!

Meh. Its all just symbolic though isnt it. It makes no difference if its actually your loved one you are scattering, as long as you think it is.

Wat I thought about when he told me that is a friend a while back(like 10 years ) was grounded for 2 months for knocking her grandmothers ashes over. Her mother nearly had a breakdown over it. I'm sure that wouldnt have happened had she known it was just random dust

Yeah, I think it's just the principle behind it I've never understood why people keep ashes in their homes though... 1) it's so likely it'll be knocked over and 2) what are you achieving having it in your home?! I quite like the ring idea though where they compress your ashes and it gets turned into an heirloom of some kind. Pretty expensive but quite a cool thing to do I think.

If my body is cremated Id like the ashes spread over the park i use to play in as a kid and on the long rideway where i use to gallop my horse.

Anyway, I need to be cremated really, as I have told the donor people they can take anything but my eyes. May aswell chuck me on a fire after they have chopped me up. Dont much like the idea of being buried anyway. But especially not burried with parts missing

I was quite upset when I read this post and called the crematorium where my husband was cremated. And they assured me it was bullsh!t.

And as an edit:
I want to be cremated, and then this: http://www.heavenlystarsfireworks.com/

If I ever went to a fireworks display where a loved one's ashes are used, I'd have to crack a joke about a "nice pair of bangers"
