George Zimmerman 'pointed a shotgun at his girlfriend'

A Florida man acquitted of murder in the fatal shooting of an unarmed black teenager has been arrested on charges he pointed a shotgun at his girlfriend.

George Zimmerman, 30, has been jailed in Seminole County, Florida.

Mr Zimmerman was charged with felony aggravated assault, battery, domestic violence and criminal mischief, a sheriff's office spokesman said.

In July, a jury cleared Mr Zimmerman of the February 2012 killing of Trayvon Martin, 17.

Since then, Mr Zimmerman has had other brushes with police, including an incident in October when he was briefly detained following a domestic disturbance at the home of his estranged wife, Shellie.

On Monday, a spokesman for the Seminole County sheriff's department said Mr Zimmerman was arrested on Monday morning and confined to a single-person 64 sq ft (6 sq metre) cell - standard treatment for "high-profile" defendants.

The sheriff's office spokesman said investigators believed Mr Zimmerman and his girlfriend had lived together since August and had been arguing about breaking up.

He said Mr Zimmerman was not armed when police arrived and did not resist arrest.

Mr Zimmerman's acquittal of second-degree murder over the killing of Martin sparked a fierce debate about racial profiling and gun culture in the US.

Mr Zimmerman shot dead the teenager, who was unarmed and walking at night toward his father's house. He said the boy had attacked him.

Following the verdict, protest marches were staged across the US including San Francisco, Philadelphia, Chicago, Washington and Atlanta.

US President Barack Obama said the incident was a "tragedy" which should prompt national soul-searching.

There is no witch hunt taking place here. This is a guy that kicked his pregnant girlfriend out of her own house after pointing a loaded gun at her. This is also the guy that did exactly the same thing to his wife last year, with his girlfriend waiting for him in the car.

Looking at Mr Zimmerman and Mr Martin I would think even with a gun Mr Zimmerman's chances of survival were at best 50:50.....!!!!!

Which is why you don't go following 6"2 gang members down dark alleys with loaded weapons, especially after the police tell you they've taken it, and not to follow him under any circumstances.

After all, Zimmerman didn't know that Trayvon had a deadly packet of skittles on his person.

What does that mean and what evidence do you have that Trayvon Martin was a gang member.

According to the autopsy Trayvon Martin was 5' 11'' and 158lb and Zimmerman 5' 8'' and 200lb according to the offence report. Where do you get your figures from?

It's a ****ing joke anyway that civilians are allowed to walk around armed like that acting like vigilantes, he pursued someone who had done nothing with a loaded gun after being told not to by the police(911 operator whichever) he should have been found guilty on those facts alone

As I said in the above post I reckoned this guy was being unfairly targeted because certain groups of people thought he needed some jail time.

Well the news tonight hot off the press is that George Zimmerman will not have to face any charges in relation to the alleged situation re his girlfriend. As I suspected this was just another lame attempt to vilify this guy because he had the audacity to shoot a black man who threatened his life.

Some people won't just accept the sad reality of life in the US today, because the constitution allows people the means to defend themselves against attack by all aggressors ...!!!

Let's hope this man can now rebuild his life and not be subject to any further ludicrous jumped up bogus allegations....!!
