Well, there hasn't ever been a debate about that I don't keep an iron in the house.
To suggest there are gender specific household chores is ridiculous.

luisa didn't say that it was wrong to iron your husband's shirt, she feels that it shouldn't be a chore that women are 'supposed' to do as such and assume that they should.

I think people are just jumping at anything Jim says now, lets just set the record straight, he is an older gentlemen and a mans man, things should be done evenly but I mean not being sexiest but it's a very common knowledge that alot of women are more dominant in that department than men are, and for a long time women did all the housework and washing and ironing while the man used to go out to work, for Jim this is probably what it was like for him.
my Mrs does my washing and ironing because she doesn't trust me and wants a bit of order in the house and she'd rather do it her way than let me intervene, i think things are getting blown well out of order by linda and lusia, he is just being a typical man. i do house work and wash the dishes and i love to cook, so it is quite even in our house hold. |

I think that the thing is that Jim is purposefully making these "man" comments to wind Luisa up, the topic and argument don't really matter.

agreed, i do it myself to the mrs sometimes, i wind her up for fun, alot of people do, the thing is, Jim already knows Lusia winds him up for fun, i also think deep down alot of it is just Jim's sense of humour it's very dry and witty

What's the difference between Luisa and an ironing board?

Haha yeah, I do it to my friends sometimes too. I think that the funniest part is that Jim and Luisa both have very similar personalities but hate some of the other persons traits so they just try and get the better of each other. It's just one big wind up battle.

You see him a lot in the kitchen, washing & drying and he obviously enjoys cooking a lot. A lot of what he says is just pure wind up and usually there is always someone to take the bait.

No....if your husband is out all day working and you as the wife works part time or is a stay at home mum then why shouldnt they iron their husbands shirts....its called team work.
However if the wife works full time too then its a matter of sharing the load... Last edited by rusticgal; 21-01-2014 at 09:01 AM. |

Let face it Jim is old school, if his Mrs wants to iron his shirts that is up to her. I think it is wrong to expect women to do it solely, however I think Jim was winding Luisa up, he can cook and he can wash so I doubt he gets everything done for him at home,

I iron my husbands shirts, tbf to him he's good at almost everything bar ironing so i don't mind doing it. But he's no Jim davidson I can tell you, if he did nothing around the house and expected me to do stuff like that just because I'm a woman he'd be getting a big kick in the arse

yea i dont think anything should be gender specific. like Luisa said if they choose thats fine but to expect someone to do a certain chore cause of whats between their legs is bs. if it has to get done i'll do it. i am not much of a cook though but thats because i suck at it if its mainly not something that has to do with an oven or microwave.

As bad as it is, coming from an Italian family. The women do everything around the house. My Mum irons, cooks, cleans, washes for my Dad, etc... even packs his suitcase and everything. But generations are starting to evolve in the Italian family, I for one do 10x more than my Dad does. Helps that I need to learn those things from being at uni.
So basically my Mum does all of that + works night shifts and my Dad works 10 hour days. However, a lot of my English friends have their Dads do more. So this country is more equal in terms of jobs being done. |
