That's all it would have taken to prevent this from happening. So either he crept up to the door and shot whoever was behind it without asking any questions or he knew it was her. Shoot first and ask questions later. Not nice.

Reevas Mum was interviewed by ITV yesterday and she said he still hasn't looked her in the eyes, why not if he is innocent?

I think we need to address misogyny in professional sports.

We talk about homophobia in professional sports a lot recently, because pif the coming out of many players recently, but what about also addressing misogyny in professional sports?

I think the hyper-masculine/macho culture of professional sports (and also amateur/highschool/college sports) is very misogynistic as well as homophobic, i think the 2 issues are related.

The idea of athletes as Greek Gods that surely must be worshipped for their hyper-masculinity.

Do you think his defense is plausible? God, I think his defense is awful and completely unbelievable

He screams like a woman when he is anxious...but Reeva did not hear him and say it was her that was in the toilet.
He felt vulnerable because the bedroom done wAs locked yet he managed to walk down the passage to the bathroom.
He could easily have woke Reeva and unlocked the door, gun in hand.
He could even have tried ringing security..

..I think it's plausible the way it seems to be being presented and I also can't understand why it was never manslaughter because surely he would have to be given a prison sentence with that..maybe not such a long one..(..I don't know what SA law is..)...but with a murder charge he could be found innocent...

he could be found innocent isn't a good enough reason not to make it a murder charge imo, he shot her through a locked door, that's cold blooded and cruel and she deserves proper justice imo

Not sure how he's going to get away with this. He's definitely going to need a good stump speech.

No I do not think it will be fair. Its the same as most other high profile cases. The jury is biased before going in because of the media stuff..most people have made up their minds one way or the other before even seeing any evidence, etc etc

I do think that papers should be kinda gagged in some cases tbh. To ensure fair trials. Yeah bring everything out afterwards, and do light reporting at the time, but to divulge every detail of cases (and in many instances make stuff up too, depending which side the papers on) should be seen as perversion of justice..surely?

..I'm just not sure that she or her family will get it though tbh, I still think that his defence will present a good 'reasonable doubt' case and he'll be found innocent...

Quite possible, I guess it's a shame that it has to be one thing or another in cases like this, that the evidence couldn't be put forward and the defense given and then let the jury decide whether they think he's guilty of murder or manslaughter or innocent of both

They dont actually have a jury in South African courts, its completely in the hands of the judge who in this case is one of the few female judges and has spoken about the need to do more to protect woman from domestic violence and imposed tough sentences on male abusers

Good luck Oscar

Ahh right. I thought it was the same as us.

My point still stands for other cases then

I dont know enough about this case to form an opinion really. Though I have literally just heard on the news that he randomly shot a gun in a restaurant a month or so before the incident :S

No juries in SA just a Judge and two other people not sure what their role is. Oh sorry just seen MTVNs post.
