Used to be on antidepressants (fluoxetine and sertraline at various points) but I've come off them now. I still habitually take sleeping pills though

Kate.

Yeah, it's a pain having to resort to tablets, especially the likes of diazepem (easy to get hooked), plus they're only supposed to be prescribed for up to a month or so..

If you're not getting any sleep though its like what do you do? I usually get a few hours a night and function reasonably well on a nap in the daytime.

Yeah, I'm like that. Funnily enough it's actually easier for me to sleep during the day than at night... I dunno. It's hard to explain but at night I'm lying in bed worrying about *something* I should be doing but just can't quite put my finger on.

I used to be on all sorts and felt like I was getting worse
I had to take drastic action so I used my friend google and researched how I was feeling which is usually the worst thing you can do, luckily I found lots of support and advice... So I put my meds in the bin, changed my diet and I feel MUCH better!

Yes sometimes pills are just NOT what you need.

Sam, you sound like me, just can't switch off. I fear there is no cure.

I find that making a list of the racing thoughts can help? Probably sounds like run-of-the-mill advice but that and a warm glass of milk just before bed (as opposed to tea or anything else with a lot of caffeine) can help relax you, and making a note of issues that need to be sorted the next day.

It's hard getting more than an hour or two of sleep in a row though. My sleep's always broken up into random cycles for some reason... been waking up at 5 am lately and then pretty much having to answer to my alarm by the time I've managed to doze off again.

My face got spotty a few weeks ago so I got some Duac gel which has been amazing my skin immediately looked better and now all my spots are gone
mine wasn't acne though so idk if it would help, but if you haven't already tried it maybe ask your doc for some Duac gel, I would deffo recommend it for spots

I use Isotrex gel twice daily my doctor won't give me Duac gel because of the depression based side effects (apparently... idg how a gel can cause depression but I'll trust a doctor over myself.)

No, and I'd be looking for alternative solutions if it was ever suggested. Though I'm not adverse to taking basic painkillers (ibuprofen and paracetamol) for headaches. However 9 times out of 10 my headaches aire either dehydration or caffeine withdrawal .

But yeah I have severe reservations about pills. My mum was on so many she rattled. Pills, and pills to counteract the side effecrs of other pills... ridiculous. Half of them messed her up even more physically and SSRI's (antidepressants) actually made her depression far, far worse. I wouldn't touch anything like that with a bargepole. Most of them are still semi-experimental, the people who MAKE the damn things don't fully understand the effect they have, let alone the ground-level GP's dishing them out like tic tacs.

Oh wow. I suffered with acne severely for about 2 years and they were cleared up completely within 18 months of taking those tablets.

Yeah, I watched a documentary about Accutane (if that's what you're referring to?) which apparently had some extreme effects on teenagers, leading a couple of them to suicide. Scary stuff.
