You know my methods

This week shoppers in Ireland started having their change rounded to the nearest five cents, if they agreed, in an effort to take one and two cent coins out of circulation. It follows a trial in Wexford and similar measures in countries like the Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Hungary. "Since the euro was introduced in 2001 Ireland has spent €37million [£27million] issuing one and two cent coins - minting the coppers at three times the rate of the rest of the eurozone," said Dr Ronnie O'Toole, an economist at the Irish Central Bank http://www.mirror.co.uk/money/irelan...-coins-6729919 at our Irish brethren keeping this shtum what do you think? |

Makes sense really, I hate having loads of copper in my purse. If I buy something and there is a penny or 2 p change I usually tell them to stick it in the charity tub if there's one on the counter or tell them not to worry about it. I have a whiskey bottle full of copper and cba to get it changed

Good, anything less than 10p is pointless and if it can be avoided I won't use anything lower than 50/20p to buy something

It costs 1.6c to make a 1c coin so it makes economic sense. What about the 99p stores though if UK follows suit

I have a huge wide mouthed glass vase that I throw 5p's and copper coins into, and at Christmas when Carol Singing kids come to the door, the tradition is to give them a choice of festive sweets from the table, then to allow them to dip two hands into the coin bowl and keep what they manage to scoop up.
Looks like being two hands full of 5p coins and upwards if the UK follows suit. |

because it costs more to make them than what they were worth...
Canada got rid of our penny about a year ago... I don't miss it, but what I noticed is the young 16 year olds running a cash register that don't know how to round up or down
