[A 22-year-old man has died after being attacked
by his own dog in Preston.
The victim was treated at the scene by
paramedics but he subsequently died of his injuries.
The dog, which belonged to the man,
was taken from the property in Dundonald Street,
and was put down by vets.

service at around 3.45pm on New Year's Day,

You don't know how long he's had the dog though, he could have been a rescue dog that already had issues. The guy is dead, you should atleast wait for some more information before labelling the guy as some sort of animal abuser

If he was having a fit, the dog probably got confused about what was going on and attacked.

However...

I'm sorry, but they had a pitbull called "Tiger". I am very, very... very... skeptical that this dog had been trained to be gentle and obedient.

Calling a cat "Tiger" is ironic... calling a Yorkshire Terrier "Tiger" is ironic... calling a dog that has a (deserved or otherwise) reputation as an aggressive breed "Tiger" is a deliberate statement that you "have a tough dog".

It IS tragic what happened to the guy, and you're right that it might be a rescue dog that they've not had for long, but beyond that... well... happy, well-trained dogs don't maul their masters

Meh you can't make a judgement like that on what the dogs name was imo also it wasn't his dog according to the article it was his g/fs dog

..this is so tragic..I agree, dogs don't generally attack for no reason but it's not necessarily a bad owner though, dogs have triggers and he had an epileptic fit so the dog could have possibly felt a threat to his owner/his girlfriend...


..the media cogs though, we don't know much yet/the police are not confirming anything while they're doing their enquiries..but it was thought/reported to be a pitbull called tiger, so a negative slant being put on already/a demonization/stereotyping, you could say...don't you just love that media..so are we ok with stereotyping etc, well if we're ok with it and it's our thought process also but not ok with it if it goes against our own thought processes...

Any animal with a vice like jaw grip is a danger to humans. If the guy had a fit, the dog was probably frightened and reacted in the only way it knows.

I wish people would wake up to the potential issues there are with keeping any pet. It's not about the 90+% of the time where they will be fine, its about the % what if scenario where the animal is capable of inflicting lethal damage. If you have a pet that is capable of inflicting lethal damage, you need to be prepared for it.
