BBC announced plans to bring a host of box-sets and classic programmes back to BBC iPlayer to watch over the holiday period.

Sherlock fans will also be able to relive past adventures too - with series three and four as well as 2016’s special, The Abominable Bride available on BBC iPlayer. And those that missed BBC Three’s critically acclaimed drama Thirteen will be able to catch it on BBC iPlayer.

Default Black Pete: extreme right appears to stoke Dutch divisions

An annual debate in the Netherlands about the Christmas season practice of white people blackening their faces, colouring their lips red and donning wigs to play Zwarte Piet, a sidekick to Saint Nicholas, has this year descended into street brawls, vandalism and a conviction for inciting racial hatred.

The characterisation of Zwarte Piet – or Black Pete – has divided Dutch society in recent years. In 2015 the UN stepped in to declare it was a “vestige of slavery”. Some major cities, including Amsterdam and The Hague, have refashioned Zwarte Piet’s image, or done away with him altogether, to avoid accusations of racism.

Others, however, continue to believe the character’s portrayal to be a harmless tradition. In a survey of 272 of the 388 Dutch municipalities, 239 said they would be sticking with the traditional image in 2017.

Christmas cards are so expensive, I'm not getting any this year (even for family etc) and I've told my parents I'd rather just have the money even if the card is like £1. So many people just throw them in the bin as well.

Haven't sent cards for years. What is the point of sending a card to someone you are in touch with regularly. Sending cards to people once a year you haven't spoken to in years, may as well be an "i'm not dead yet" message

LT needs everyone to know he is alive.

I sent my American cousins cards on Friday. I will do the Irish lot today, and the English ones next week, plenty time.
