I am getting pretty sick to the back teeth of Buzzfeed journalists and TwitterGays writing 3 Billboards off for not being ostensibly about "the gays" or "the blacks" as most winners have been for the past 10 years, tbh (something about it being a racist film, for...having...racist characters? is the gist?)

Happened last year with Manchester by the Sea - IMO the best movie of that year and yet Affleck's win was treated as if he were a convicted paedophile (I mean, sure, his past is shady, but it was indisputably the best performance)

But then I haven't seen any of them yet

CMBYN is a good case of people championing a film just because of the gays' which I don't appreciate since the characters in both the book and the film are both undeniably bisexual and I'm not here for that rare bisexual representation being snatched away by the gays. They had Brokeback Mountain, let us have something godamnit!

I think if anyone calls Three Billboards a racist film is completely missing the point of it, it has a lot to say on the issue of police corruption and racism and there are racist characters in it but a person would have to be a complete offense addict to take issue with the film's themes.

Hoping that The silent child wins its category.
Don’t watch Hollyoaks but the actress that wrote this deserves some recognition.
From the clips I have seen it is worthy of the Oscar.

..the only one I’ve watched yet that has been nominated for anything is Dunkirk...and I so didn’t like that movie ../was so disappointed..I’m looking forward to watching quite a few of them though and hopefully will before the Oscars are awarded...

Why are they always films that have come out very recently? No films that can out before Autumn 2017 seems to have any nominations. Only films I have seen is Darkest Hour and Star Wars. Bet the Shape of Water wins everything!

Because films that studios want to push for an Oscar for are premiered during festival season (usually August/September) and released in the following months so that they're fresh in the minds of the voters

Films like Get Out and Dunkirk are the exceptions to that rule, but that's generally how it works

Plus the films have to have at least one airing in a US cinema during the season to qualify so most Oscar films just launch in that season as it's easier to maintain momentum over a shorter period of time and it's also most cost effective since an oscar campaign is a pricey endeavor.

So that’s why they always put “Oscar nominated” in the trailers before the film is even out

Yeah, they'll host screenings for Academy members and the like to get the film on the board and press screenings to build up hype.

A sizable chunk of voters won't even get round to see all of the nominees so having the press big up a film increases it's chances since those kind of voters tend to go whichever way the wind is blowing and will be swayed by whatever film is considered the favourite plus you got old attitudes that tend to favour old themes. Films about either World War will always get nominated, if the Academy can find a reason to nominate Meryl Streep they will etc etc.

What I always notice now with the Oscar nominations is the lengths they go to avoid nominating popular films, that a decent number of people went to see... only Dunkirk and Get Out in the Best Picture list were big hits.

When they upped the number of Best Picture nominess from 5 to 8-10 it was meant to give blockbusters more of chance, but they just now find a few more independent films to nominate.

Dunkirk is probably Nolan's weakest film tbh. Get Out or Three Billboards to win. I love Margot and I'm happy she's starting to be room seriously, but that award belongs to Frances.

Won´t be watching probably. Reason: Too may unwatched films (about 99,99 %). And the pretentious speeches are so aggravating.
