...she stayed calm while she wilfully broke something of value when it was not the only alternative solution to her children having disregarded the house rules...maybe remove the iPads until her children are able to understand house rules better and follow them..?...many other alternatives but she stayed calm though...if her children become frustrated then it’s ok to destroy a thing of priveledge which has been purchased for them and given to them so long as they ‘appear calm’ while they’re doing it...is the only ‘lesson’ there, Arista baby...gotta keep calm kids while you’re doin’ that destroyin’ you don’t need to be doing...kids you should be looking at what your alternatives are in this situation of frustration just like mamma Kirstie does.....ooops...

...I don’t think she’s useless in anyway, Elliot...but I do think her focus is quite narrow in some aspects of parenting she’s commented on and made public...I think she can dismiss and overlook so much in some of her parenting decisions and methods...I personally like her, I think she’s very well-meaning ...but just a bit *cringe* at times...
..the other thing with the flights as well that I’ve just thought..in her and her partner travelling first class while the children were separated in economy etc..?...it’s also the excitement a whole family get in travelling together on holidays and exciting things etc ...that excitement is a whole build up from booking the visit and continuing to include flights as well...something a family share together in seeing the excitement your children are experiencing with the whole thing....?...she deprived herself from sharing that with the boys and from them sharing it with their parents during the flight... |

Frankly, I hope it WAS a case of her losing her temper because someone coldly and calculatingly destroying their child's possessions with a blank face is straight up terrifying, and would likely contribute to a multitude of emotional issues for them in the future. "Anger" is a scary, but ultimately normal and comprehendible emotion. Cold vindictiveness is next level. Last edited by Toy Soldier; 12-09-2018 at 09:17 AM. |

...I would say that she doesn’t own the tablets either once she’s given them as a gift...(..she may have purchased them but she doesn’t own them..)..you give, it no longer belongs to you is the deal for me....they belong to the children then ...in this case...I guess that’s a whole other topic though.....

To be fair, if a parent has a fear of flying so it would probably be better if the kids didn't see them as that could be quite worrying .
"Ooh this seems a bit scary... it's totally safe though, right?" " YES IT'S FINE Strap in Kids! I love you! I will always love you, no matter what happens! FAREWELL" |

The point is smashing stuff isn't a good example to set. No one is saying not to discipline her children just that the method is odd and extreme

Yes I agree But some kids are so hooked on that "terrible graphics bad quality game " free online game the only way to stop it is what she did. Some parents approve it. Poor trolls online are angry as they want a Free ipad |

So long as she's not beating, starving or in other ways abusing them, I'm happy to leave the parenting decisions to her.

She shames people in public and adds SaveOurNHS to the end. You know, because she's not overweight at all. |

This wasn't something she actually thought through and then did in private and said "Ooh, dear look they're broken! Looks like you'll have to do without now kiddies!" She lost control of her temper and out of frustration smashed them in front of the kids. That aint good no matter which way you look at it. Last edited by Marsh.; 12-09-2018 at 05:25 PM. |

Is this a generalisation or one wealthy child versus one working class child?

But the equipment. Is there really any need to smash up two perfectly good tablets? She could have just given them away to a charity shop? A school? Sold them to friends/colleague? It's not teaching the kids the value of much either, that instead of taking them away as a punishment, she so casually disposed of such expensive items because the cost of them wasn't a big thing for her. Which is fine if she is privileged enough to have more disposable income that she won't have to worry about a waste of £500, that's fine. That's the way it is. But that's how kids become spoilt and think of it as "nothing". In fact, as a kid, I'd have probably been more affected by the thought that another kid was now enjoying my toy/gadget because I didn't obey the rules. Now THAT would have taught me a lesson. Gently tapping MAY have cracked the screen but it would take considerable force to actually smash it up and render it unusable. |

"the intentional use of physical force or power, threatened or actual, against oneself, another person, or against a group or community, which either results in or has a high likelihood of resulting in injury, death, psychological harm, maldevelopment, or deprivation," She used physical force to exert her "power". That's a violent act. You're thinking of aggressive. She wasn't aggressive when doing it. |

A generalisation borne from my direct experiences of very wealthy families and lower 'working class/non-working class families.
