i would say my biggest misconception of adulthood was i thought it would be straight forward , it isnt

That you would one day "feel" like an adult. By that I mean your brain would click into place (maybe on your 21st birthday) and you suddenly know how to navigate the world.
But, the truth is you don't, you just live and you learn. |

That it'd be as easy as childhood - **** ain't easy
You can honestly get away with slacking a lot & being totally carefree as a child/teenager and still do well for yourself with classes, whatever little you have to do for responsibilities etc. at home, and friendships/relationships etc. etc. but as an adult if you don't push yourself in any areas you're kinda screwed.
