All I've actually admitted to doing is watching iplayer in uni halls and student flats without a license which IS legal as long as your parents address has a license and your device isn't connected to the mains. Same goes for live TV.

£154 isnt much over a year, they let you pay in small instalments too don't they?

I do think pensioners should get to watch for free though.

I rarely watch the TV channels now, apart from the odd live football match. I used to watch Pointless but haven't been recently. The shows just don't interest me.

I sometimes hear Radio 2 in the car, and sometimes listen to Five Live. However I visit the news and sport website everyday. What I like about the BBC is that they do try to be balanced and look at both sides of an issue.

They are good for covering national events also.

100% say . You say "I don't want Sky any more" and then you stop paying them, and you don't get Sky any more, and no one gets threatened with fines, jail, and magic vans.

We were "cord cutters" for a few years, though I do have a TV license now because Sky TV, Broadband AND TV license worked out cheaper than JUST broadband with BT (which is mad) and BT and Sky are the only half decent fibre operators where I am.

I don't watch a lot of BBC (or much over-the-air TV in general...) just the occasional documentary on iPlayer and to be fair I am partial to a bit of Graham.

It's not even that I think the cost is excessive, or that I don't think people SHOULD choose to pay it, it's objectively a decent deal for the volume of content on offer... I just have major issues with the compulsory nature of it and the way they conduct it (threatening letters, threats to send round the heavies to come into your house?). Like "technically" you can opt out and not watch over-the-air, like I said, we did for years and I still watch very little on Sky... but "opting out" involves having the nerve to tear up the legal threats every few weeks and a lot of people will simply pay up for peace of mind. Like a bloody protection racket

To be honest, I tend to watch ITV for news. I think the idea of the BBC being politically biased probably has some merit, but it's no more than any of the other channels.
Channel 4 especially is extremely left wing and ITV tends to lean more that way too. I always felt that the BBC was more the other way, and I do get the argument as a public paid service it should be more biased, but then anybody who watches the news and feels like that channel is delivering a message they personally don't agree with is going to see the bias more than others.
