I'd probably class it as "not impossible, but may as well be". Maybe from a form of rabies or something. But they'd be in the style of 28 X Later, not rotten corpses.

I find folklorey things interesting, and the "real" zombies from Haiti are cool. The tl:dr is that the witchdoctors would give their victims a potion which basically put them into a coma, so they appeared dead, and then retrieved the bodies and gave them a combination of drugs which pretty much lobotomised them, and made them do whatever they were told.

I'm sure someone myth busted zombie apocalypse and pointed out that all of the zombies would be torn to shreds by packs of dogs within the first month .

And "actually still alive" zombies like 28 days later would realistically burn out physically within a couple of days.
