I didn't say anything about fines being a police state I said fines wouldn't deter anyone.

I called your idea that we should allow Jackbooted armoured police to threaten, intimidate and beat people into submission a police state. When you were saying that the police should take notes from the Guardia. Rememberrrr?

As I have extended family from Catalonia, I'm well aware of how the Spanish police operate thanks. I'll not be advocating copy and pasting their tactics to the UK

So all these idiots flaunting the rules - the media are taking photos and videos and zooming in so why not start showing their faces on the evening news programs..

Shame them into behaving or let their neighbours ‘influence’ them

When to call the Police? The neighbours are having a BBQ, but it's hard to tell who lives there and who doesn't as so many come and go?! Tried to tell them, but there's a language barrier (Polish and Romanian), they just seem to laugh it off and carry on. At least 10 people, and quite a few kids.

Once again the UK is far too soft, this weekend is going to be carnage, with hot weather predicted until Sunday

I know police have to get tough, but I keep thinking what more can they do? .

Idiots will always be idiots , I just worry innocent dog walkers and essential shoppers will get pestered .

Is it going to get to the stage where we'll need a special pass to nip to the shop or something?.

Sadly, they can't do much because people are weeping into their hands and saying we're heading for a police state because some idiots want to party. Remember the thread about the women who stockpiled food even though she had to throw the majority away? There were responses saying don't victimise her, she was worried for her family!

The police are treated with contempt in much of this country because of the woolly, touch-feely irritants who worry more about the rule breakers than they do about the NHS.

So we all talk about and value freedom and democracy and the right to not feel persecuted by authoritarian forces within our country... UNTIL something scary happens and then we yelp like a puppy and sign it all away? What a sham. Not exactly what our grandparents fought for, is it?

Yes that was me, if you have a response to comment in that thread let's hear it otherwise stop sniping.

Your comment that the police are treated with contempt in much of the country and those same people don't care for the NHS either is what you would call a reactionary, hysterical interpretation.
