Default UK Zoo's to open next week

[The Covid crisis has put the survival of the
Chester Zoo at risk, the attraction has said.
It has been closed to visitors since 21 March,
and like other large zoos,
has been told by the government
to prepare to stay shut "indefinitely".]

Other Zoo's must start letting paying people in.

yes Zoo's can reopen under social distancing procedures and other covid regulations

and also with extra handgel dispensers also quite handy (which is how theme parks, zoo's have reopened here in Netherlands basically, with health, distancing measures)

poor animals then, i'd rather have them living in zoo's, than to be hunted down in the wild

like i stated, zoo's and theme parks can easily reopen in this corona social distancing society, just need to adapt to health and safety measures a bit more, same as with everything these times

Makes no sense why they can’t open in the sense of social distancing when likes of Primark are opening, must zoos are massive and would be easy to implement. Chester zoo in particular is very large

I hope this will be reviewed, they can manage the number of people going in and any time we have been to a Zoo you could easily socially distance so fingers crossed for the animals

Chester zoo is enormous I went a couple of years ago and walked 14 miles and still didn’t see everything, I really don’t see why they don’t just keep all the animal houses closed and keep everything else open, it’s literally no different to walking round a park

Maybe someone can start raising money for food for the animals and the upkeep of the zoo, I am sure many would contribute to the cause, something like children in need, but animals in need, could raise millions. I really dont know why they have to remain closed though as many are very big and surely social distancing could be implemented.

Zoos are big enough to open while keeping social distancing in place. Of course some areas might have to remain shut (enclosed houses)

It costs a whopping 1.5 million a month to keep Chester Zoo running, it was on the news yesterday, and as they still need the staff to look after the animals they are not eligible for furlough either

true, you do need some staff at all times

here the more younger employees are working now, whilst the more older and veteran employees remain in contact while kept safe via skype, facetime so they can still look at the animals and they can inform their colleagues at the zoo's if there is anything wrong, or pregnancies being due any moment etc

I can’t wait for zoos to be abolished

Everyone kicked up such a fuss about shamu the ****ing killer whale and called it a day - going to see the lions and giraffes down the road the following week

If you support zoos, I think you’re a dick

Not sure Marc has much sway in the zoo community to get this done, but I'm sure he'll appreciate the idea.

Chile some zoos are the only places in the world where some species exist because of deforestation, they do loads of conservation work at Chester and have had a massive impact reintroducing certain species back into the wild

Their work in this area is wholly exaggerated to sell tickets - the owners walk away with millions each year and the animals live a miserable life. There are better ways to save a species than to doom them to a life behind bars.

i support zoo's, i like watching those shows about life at zoo's either

shamu is not a ''killer whale'' and yes indeed it was really a big fuss over practically nothing but a mere incident
