It doesn't work for me but ALM has always been a crock of **** spouted by racists who see the mention of black people mattering as an attack on them.

The same people who cry all lives matter, will be the pro-choice crowd that screams at women outside of abortion clinics but don't waste a thought on children they try to force women to have after they are born. The ALM crowd is the same crowd that downplays Trump's concentration camps at the borders, they are the same crowd that cheers whenever the police murder an innocent person. Ehhhh welllll... I mean the more horrible truth is that to those in high-up positions of power, NO lives matter all that much. They don't really give a crap about individual human lives. Only money matters, therefore, after themselves (the only people they thing matter) there's a heirarchy that goes; Rich people (any) > white middle-income people > minority middle-income people > low income white people >>>> low income minorities.

There IS a discrepancy for black people in the US, I don't think that can be denied, they are clearly right at the bottom in terms of how much their lives matter to the fatcats, but anyone who thinks that their life actually matters in any meaningful way to those at the top of the tree is fooling themselves.

I feel like the message should be "none of us matter to them, so let's at least equally matter to each other".

This is obviously not about black rights movements though - there are actual (tiny, but existing) black racial-supremacist groups and that's most likely what he was talking about... ensuring that the discourse remains focussed on equality and doesn't edge into supremacy.

Nobody has said all lives don't matter though... that's the issue. Saying black lives matter does not mean that other lives matter less they matter the same.
That's what equality is, at the moment black lives are disproportionatly affected by certain issues. Hence the reminders that black lives matter. ...as much.. not less than, not more than, as much.

Getting a bit sick of all the smoke and mirrors around this, well white lives matter!..Blue lives!. .

Yes we know, nobody has ever suggested they don't and there is no evidence to support they are disproportionatly affected by any of the issues black lives have been found to be. So those movements are a misnomer to detract from the real issue.

Acknowledging your privilege does not affect your rights, it does not have a detrimental effect on other white people.
Accepting that some officers have gone beyond the parimetres of their role is not suggesting blue lives don't matter.

It's very important to maintain logic and perspective here and not get dragged down a rabbit hole that takes away from the original point.

I agree with that but I just also think that if the goal and thinking of BLM is to have black lives matter just as much as the average white life does... well, that's a pretty ****ing low bar. Of course parity is a great starting point but let's not pretend that if there was full racial equality, the average life would actually matter to anyone up the chain. How about we deal with one issue at a time? Nobody has said or suggested that any race is any further up the greasy pole. Everyone is aware of the problems surrounding consumerism, exploitation and corruption all over the globe. Accepting that there are discrepancies in western democracies is a good place to start in promoting equal rights and treatment for all however.
If we don't support black lives as white people we are just as guilty of perpetuating the norm and nothing will ever change.

I said "Of course parity is a great starting point" Kizzy. I don't really think it is a "first step" though... I'm nowhere near enough of an optimist to believe that consumerism will ever be "fixed" or that global exploitation will ever end (until it ALL ends). Play the game the best you can I guess. Some people need to continue trying, I suppose, for their own existential well-being and that's fine. Small improvements can't hurt.
