Catherine Tate facing calls to step down from Eurovision role over 'racist' sketch

Despite the honour of taking part in the voting of the Eurovision Song
Contest On Saturday, Catherine Tate is facing calls to be "cancelled".


Shortly after her role was announced, fans of the song contest demanded
Catherine be fired from the job and branded her "racist" after a previous
comedy sketch was recirculated.

The Offensive Translator, which was shown on The Catherine Tate Show,
mocked Britons' inability to speak other languages and Eurovision fans
claimed the comedian should be "fired" over it.

Shortly after her role was announced, fans of the song contest demanded
Catherine be fired from the job and branded her "racist" after a previous comedy sketch was recirculated.

The Offensive Translator, which was shown on The Catherine Tate Show,
mocked Britons' inability to speak other languages and Eurovision fans
claimed the comedian should be "fired" over it.

Twitter user @CRobertsUK fumed: "This is racism. Mimicking an accent,
especially a white person mimicking a non-white accent is racist."

Agreeing, @Oldeknight said: "I didn't find it funny at all. Anyone else would
get fired for this act."

@Nickeh added: "Please take this down. It's a racist video and by posting it, you're contribution to the system of racism."

The sketch in question was aired in 2006 and saw Catherine pretend to speak
in several different languages.

Eurovision Song Contest airs Saturday, May 13 from 8pm on BBC One.

Well this semi final was far better than the first imho

I fared better this time

Armenia , Estonia , Cyprus , Iceland , Poland ( fabulously melodic) , Australia .

Only Iceland missed out


I can only see either Poland or Australia winning the competition
