This.

It’s not the dog it’s the irresponsible owner.

Honestly IMO it's a bit of both. There ARE gentler breeds by nature. Yes it's always the owner's fault but I suppose it's a bit like gun laws - guns don't shoot people themselves, but strict rules on gun ownership stops these things happening with anything like the same frequency.

There's no reason anyone "needs" a particular dog breed. There would be less serious attacks if people were limited to gentle breeds and smaller/weaker breeds. Maybe make it that you need training and back to a licence to own larger more powerful dogs.

This happens too often, and usually because inexperienced (or lazy) people have dogs that are beyond them. And they trust them too much.

Agreed and dangerous dog breeds is something we can legislate against easier than negligent/irresponsible humans

Exactly. Big powerful dogs like that need experienced and competent owners not because these breeds are more aggressive than other breeds but because of the damage they can do if they are aggressive. A lot of those types of dogs German Shepards for example are working dogs, they're very intelligent, they'll get bored if they're not stimulated or exercised properly and boredom can turn into destructive or aggressiveness

I would wager that 95% of the time the dog did not get enough daily exercise nor enough sleep when a puppy (in a crate)

Probably not. Personally I would love a German Shepard or even a Border Collie but I know that I just don't have the time to look after a dog like that properly so we have a little dog instead

Our loud chav neighbours have three (Three!) large Dogue de Bordeaux in a 3-bed house with two kids and as far as I can tell they don't get walked at all. Plus their back garden is now 50% a massive shed that they use as a mini pub, and the other half is decked! I see the dogs out there fighting/humping each other all day. Absolutely ****ing mad. They have two kids, who are a bit older now (15 and 10) but they've had them since the kids were much smaller... I'm amazed no one has been hurt.

My eldest hung around with them a bit when she was younger but was flat-out banned from playing in their garden.

Seen quite a few of these dog attack stories recently. I'm sensing something is brewing. I think they're gonna be coming for your dogs next.

Honestly Alf not everything is a government conspiracy! Stories about vicious dog attacks have - unfortunately - been regular for as long as I can remember.

The article says it was an American Bulldog just obtained a few weeks ago from a rescue shelter but there is no way a rescue centre would home that dog in a home with a 4 year old child?

It doesn't say whether or not the dog belonged to the family of the little girl I don't think?

Wrong Dog for a 4 year year
who could upset the dog

as it was in their back garden

I never trust any dawg that I haven’t known since a pup ..

As regards rescue dogs you just don’t know what they’ve been through or their triggers

You're correct, not everything is, but at the same time, some things are.

I've seen at least 4 stories on this forum alone with inside the last month of dog attacks. So while vicious dog attacks have always happened, at the moment they seem to be wanting to highlight that regularly.
