I don't have a deep fat fryer but my mom does and chips always taste better in her house

Now we use lard in our deep fat fryer .. not just because the chips / ‘roast’ potatoes taste fabulous but its the method used by my old mum and my grandfather.. both lived to around 90

Lard is a much safer fat than oil, especially seed oils.
I use Lard, dripping or ghee for frying that needs a high temperature and I use lard for making pastry. Like you, that's how my gran used to cook.

Times were hard back in the day but they didn’t have so much processed food or takeaways to tempt them as we do now

i haven't used a deep fat fryer in 20 years. The cleaning, replacing oil etc was just grim

We had a chip pan and fried up chips when I was a kid but I have never owned one. I do my chips in the air fryer, 10 mins and bingo

Air fryers are the best. Hardly ever fry or bake anything anymore.

No to deep fat fryers remember my brother and his wife had one back in the 90s and they put in a few stone each after they dumped it the eight came off ...air fryer chips if you make your own are just as good

Cant beat home made chips cooked on a pan of oil, topped with a fried egg done in the cooling fat.

Interestingly all the top restaurants nationwide cook / fry in lard as do the famous Harry Ramsden’s Chip shop franchises

Lard was used by my parents and grandparents who lived to their nineties .. everyone used it back in the old days.. oddly enough Cancer wasn’t anywhere near as common either ..



We’ve been told for decades that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and that is total bollox .. it was supposedly just a catchy advertising line from the 60’s ..


The famous line “ Breakfast, the most important meal of the day “ - was penned by no other than John Harvey Kellogg an American businessman ..

Goose fat, but it already has a high smoke-point so just be careful. Ditto for groundnut (peanut) oil. The oil they use to fry chips at Five Guys.

Taste and texture nowhere near as nice as proper chips imho

Air Fryers are just more convenient and possibly faster
