Virgin Media Ireland and its owners, Liberty Global has announced that the broadcaster for Big Brother in Ireland, TV3; will have its broadcasting rights of BBUK moved to sister channel 3e (which airs Bit On The Side), from 2017. As a major revamp of programming will happen on TV3 in the new year, the news of the channel switch for BB came as a surprise; as it is understood that Big Brother is costly for the network, and both BB and CBB attract decent ratings. In May, TV3 signed a 3-year long deal with Endemol Shine UK to remain BBUK's Irish home; airing every single BB and CBB series until the end of 2018. With the announcement of BBUK's move to 3e, also came the news of a visual rebrand of both TV3 and 3e, and the rebrand of UTV Ireland (which ITV plc sold to Liberty Global last month) to be3.
