Joe: I Couldn't Have Asked For A Better Mentor

X Factor hopeful Joe McElderry has revealed he couldn’t ask for a better mentor than Cheryl Cole, referring to the Girls Aloud star as his ‘big sister’. Speaking to Star Magazine, Joe said he has been trying to buy a thank you present for Cole, but what do you buy someone who earns in excess £5 million a year?!

Joe said: “I want to buy her a combined Christmas and thank you present ‘cos she’s been really supportive and I couldn’t ask for a better mentor, but what do you buy the girl who’s got everything?

“I might get her a Geordie present that means something to both of us.”

Joe also revealed that Cheryl shares his nerves on results night, “She gets really nervous as well!” he explained. “When we are standing backstage me and Cheryl are literally throwing up, well not literally. But we are both nervous.

“And then when we get on stage, we stand there going: ‘Oh my God!’

“I’m always hanging out in Cheryl’s dressing room before the show starts. She’s a really hands-on mentor. She helps out a lot with her acts.

“She has become like an older sister to me. I think it’s really helped that I’m from the same area.”

Asked what he would do if he won, Joe said: “I would have to try and hold it together on stage and then I would have to go into a padded room by myself after and just go completely mental for a couple of hours.

“I’d buy my family stuff and I wouldn’t mind a house or a dog. I really want a dog.

“I know that’s random. I wouldn’t want a big one ‘cos I’m scared of big dogs, so a wee one.

The pop duo, who cracked the top ten with debut single 'Left My Heart In Tokyo' in September, praised the 18-year-old's attitude as well as his performances on the show.

A space for all the Joe fans out there. Joe is hands-down my favourite X Factor contestant ever. I think his voice is extraordinary. He's the only contestant who I've really been touched by when singing. Hopefully now that he's not contracted to Simon anymore, we'll see some great music come out of this guy. I remember when he auditioned with 'Dance with my Father' and from that first audition I knew he was my favorite. All hail Joe!

Thanks to whoever found the initial thread, I searched for a while but couldn't find it. But yeah Joe's newest album, 'Here's what I am', released on the 10th of September did really well I think! It placed at number 8 in the charts, making Joe the first X Factor act to have 4 top 20 albums and 3 top 10 albums.Good going Joe :)

Yeah he did an album called 'Classic' where he sung lots of old-school tunes. It's one of the best albums i've ever listened to, you should give it a listen! Plus it has an official recorded version of 'Dance with my Father'. Some opera too! :blush:

he's an inspiration to me and many others, he's produced four albums, he won the x factor, he's such a nice guy, he has an outstanding voice. He is far from a failure. Joe is great.
