Well done, Tom. I knew you'd be sorted in the history!
:spin: I now have perfected the historical waffling technique to a T! (or is it tee!?)
I've got Physics left aswell. Physics and Accounting on Monday morning and afternoon respectively. Not looking forward to either of them. I'm sure I can eclipse the 16% I got in my mock Accounting exam though.
Physics is so boring.
Wasn't that the day before the Kelly concert, if I remember correctly?? Oh well, if not... who needs Accountants anyway....:laugh:
Agreed: Physics is the educational equivalent of Satan worshipping!
I used to enjoy Physics for all of the wrong reasons - we were told to make a circuit, and by the end of the lesson the class had managed to attach all 10 crocodile clips to the teacher's trousers without him noticing - he even sat on them!
Oh well... it dies tomorrow!
Wow! talk about historic waffle.... I've done it again! :spin:

I think History went well Gaz - the two posters that we had to comment on we've discussed umpteen times in class, and the background knowledge that you needed to know wasn't too obscure, so I hope I'm not being cocky, but I'm confident that I've at least passed! :spin:
Hope your girlfriend's done well, too!
It's good to hear you're having fun, Becca! :spin2:

I did History GCSE and if you knew the material it went ok
Yeah i am tom
Ive got no exams left but we started A2 yesterday and its really really depressing
We've already been set 2 peices of coursework which have to be !completed! before we break-up in July!!!! Talk about stress, I just can't find the motivation to do any work now, I just want to relax until September now

Wahay! I've finished all my exams now!
Physics was awful, I had no clue about the first question, but I'm still in a good mood! Onwards and upwards eh!? Woohoo! :dazzler::dazzler:
Sorry to hear about the A2 Sol, that sucks!
I got a letter about German induction days yesterday, they're apparently going to set us an "individual summer project" - what fun!

Do you have yours next year?
Legend
17-06-2006, 10:05 PM
Yep, i've had a Science and got a Maths this year which is a real GCSE but if i fail this year then i can re-sit next year so i'm not worrying.
That's my promblem though, i never worry myself over exams which isn't always a good thing thing when i get a big ugly U!
Next year though, i'm not gonna stress but will take more of an interest and realise they are actually important.
Btw, does anyone else prefer coursework to normal type of work? I think the science, english and maths c/w are really easy to do and i like doing it.
BB-Rocks
17-06-2006, 10:07 PM
I studied for my exams, early on and forgot it all for my actual exam. If i fail ill need to do them again next year
I prefer course work, because you kno it actually matters for something
Legend
17-06-2006, 10:10 PM
Yeah i like coursework.
Revising is something i'm absolutely hopeless on, i normally take a book with me on the day of the exam and read it on way to school, that way i will remember more because if i do it months before then it goes in one ear and out the other.
Pipergun
17-06-2006, 10:49 PM
I prefer coursework, cause I can use all the resources that I want and actually write/make something that's on my level of understanding - whether I get good marks or not, I find it preferrable as it's quite reassuring that you have been paying attention in lessons!
Not that that would ever be a problem though, of course!.....:wink:

Well what we did Tom was we were told what was on the exam and the questions and you had to choose 2 questions to answer out of the 6
Pipergun
21-06-2006, 04:16 PM
Ah ok!
Were you told the questions some time before the exam and allowed to prepare, or was it just on the spot in the exam? The first way was the format for my Geography last year.

Thanks Tom. I can get into BB a bit more now that all the exams are done.
The synoptic question was basically a mixture of two subjects, for me the 50 mark question was to compare and contrast religious and ethical language and whether or not they are meaningul.I had two different teachers for RE, Mr.Kingston taught philosophy of religion which came under the religious language part and Mrs Wilcox taught ethics so it was split between those two basically.
I was not so sure of the synoptic question beforehand but I'd revised the different arguements for religious and ethical language and then concluded it which I think should be good enough. As other schools teach different topics for the synoptic question we had a question sheet with about 30 different questions and only two were relevant to what we had learnt . I wasted about 5 minutes just reading through all the questions to find most were about the old and new testament.

Invigilators? I dont like the,m. Thheir scary and annoying! When your doing your exam they walk up and down the exam hall and when its women, you can ehar their heals going. Very distracting. Also, they always sit n boil the kettle and you can always hear them stirring the milk and sugar in the background.

I've had my mock results back and i got...
Maths - B
English - B
P.E - C
I.C.T - D
French - D
R.E - E
Science - G - ha.
Apparently though, my grades will probably go up by one grade at least in my actual GCSE's in May/June because i will revise for them which is a good job considering i'm on a few D's and an E. I'm not even going to think about getting higher than an F for Science, i despise the subject with a passion and i'm also diabolically $hite at it. I actually just scraped that G, it was closer to a U than an F. Haha.
But also, my final grade includes my coursework too and all my coursework is great, i always do good at the coursework so hopefully because of that my grade will go up at least 1. But even then i think with Science i'm going to be looking at an F, an E at the highest.
What did you all get in your mocks?
BigSister
24-01-2007, 07:52 PM
erm im trying to think
English- D
Maths- D
ICT- D
History- E
Food tech E
Religious education- A(lol)
French- C
Science- I think it was d biology and E for chem and E for Physics
Main ones
English C
Maths C
ICT B
History C

Why did you pick R.E? LOL
I haven't done my mock GCSE's yet. But I'm predicted some good grades.

Well done on your mock grades!
The Govt is talking about getting rid of all coursework soon, apparently it doesn't help you learn. Which I agree with sort of but it also helps you gain a couple of marks if you're not too good at exams. And as you say, you'll have actually revised a bit for your main GCSEs so you should go up by at least a grade in all your subjects.
Trouble is, there's always distractions so not that many get round to it - hopefully you will though!
I can't remember whether I went up or down and if so in which subjects between my mocks and the real thing. I did mine last year and in my mocks I got something along the lines of 1 A*, 3 As and 5 Bs.

I didn't, we had to do it. It's only a one year course though and is only worth 1/2 GCSE because my class was awful for the teacher we had in yr7-10 and i'm not exagurating in saying we have NO work from those 4 years.

It's Double Award so that's not good, it means it's 2 grades i'm losing out on but oh well.
And yeah, i am going to get time for revising but as you said about distractions and i'm going to Kenya in June so i'll be working in a couple of weeks as well as fundraising for Kenya and also revising. Oh and trying to squeese a social life into that too but i am going to do as much revision as i can, i'm sure i'll fit it in easily enough.
To be honest Becca, i find it interesting. It's a lot of debating about abortions, arranged marriages, divorce, sex etc and it's interesting because you get to give your opinion on it a lot.
And thanks for the 'good grade' comments even though they're not so good. Lol.

26-01-2007, 06:46 PM
It's just balancing the numbers
left hand side
2 C2H6 + 7 O2
2 * C * 2 = 4 C's
2 * H * 6 = 12 H's
7 * O * 2 = 14 O's
so it is the same both sides:
right hand side
4 CO2 + 6 H2
4 * C = 4 C's
(4 * O * 2 = 8 O) + (6 * O = 6 O) = 14 O's
6 * H * 2 = 12 H's

Computing - 2 [equivalent of a B]
Maths - 3 [equivalent of a C, but unlike a C it's not a pass. I failed one of the sections by one mark. Annoying, much?]
Anyhow, overall quite good IMO, I can only get better :).

Loz, I can't believe you have the results from 12 modules coming through on that day. :conf2:
Yeah... me neither :bored:
I think I'd rather die than to go through Thursday.

I think there are A*s but only on a strictly teacher-pupil basis, nothing official. My B+s are listed like that, they're actually Bs but I was very close to an A for those. And they're a combination of Standard Grades [A,B,C,D,F] and Intermediate 2s [1,2,3,4,5,6,7]
Int 2 is meant to be more difficult, and it really is. x__X
Time to show off :P I got 30/30 for both French Speaking, and German Speaking. Oooh yeah :thumbs2:!

I'm scared, I get my Maths result on Thursday and would rather not get it!
Good luck to you Loz! :hello: - don't worry about it too much (which is easier said than done I know...), but once Thursday's over that'll be a huge weight lifted off your chest.

Haha, not if they're really bad and I need to resit them all (VERY likely situation!). Thanks anyway.
Good luck for your Maths! :spin2:

Thanks!
And LOL, I highly doubt you'll need to resit them all! Don't assume the worst!
Besides, at least now you've gone through your whole UCAS and university applications bit, and had conditional/provisional offers etc. - I still have to go through that.
And OMG that reminds me, how did you manage to go through that without your AS Level points? :puzzled:
EDIT: Good luck Andy.

My teacher sent away my predicted grades instead
Predicted grades are BBB, so it meant I could apply to uni's wanting AAA/AAB/ABB and under, which was a huuuuge relief.
The only advice I can give you for when you start your UCAS process is do it quick, and get it in as soon as possible.

I hate the fact that i still have to do Science, i found out i got another G in a Science mock today. I wouldn't mind too much but it's 5 hours of Science a week that i could spend doing another subject that my predicted grade isn't an F.
It's such a waste of time and a waste of my life, i could be doing other revision rather than listening to some bore talk about carbon dioxide.
My GCSE's start on the 21st May but French Oral Exams and P.E Practical Exams take part before that.... and i do both of them. Typical.

I always used to think too much time was devoted to Science - I had about 6 hours a week, 2 each for Chemistry, Physics and Biology. I disliked all of them!
I get my the results of my history module this week - Thursday to be precise. I'm dreading it!
On a much brighter note though, I got my English coursework back last week and got full marks with an A grade... wow! Got a C the first time round for my Geog coursework too... I know I can do better, but we have until next Mon to improve.
My first AS Summer exam is on 14th May, but similarly to Ant, my German Speaking Exam will be sometime before that... eek!
Although saying that, I'm going to be spending a week on a German exchange in April so...
Ich hoffe, wenn ich von Deutschland zurueckkomme, werde ich fliessend Deutsch sprechen sein!
