Lance

I sat all mine over the last two weeks. Did OK. But these were just mocks so didn't do any work for them TBH.

Well i thought if it studied early i would remember it
But when i got closer i would forget but when i went over it again i would remember it quickly.
I don't ahve time to revise though, to much homework etc!

I revise in school. Every lesson is revision lessons, all of what they teach us is to help with exams.
I could not sit in my house and read from books, i would learn jack sh!t. I've got a short attention spam and if i was to read through work for more than 30minutes then i would crack up lol.
I've got a Maths gcse on the 14th, made up, i get the rest of the day of hehe!

I'm sitting my GCSEs in May/June this year, got all the "Conformation of Entry" forms yesterday - can't believe it, but I'm sitting 17 Exams, and will hopefully have 14 pass grades! (I stress the "hope" part!)
Am quite relieved now, as the option pools for 6th Form A-Levels have just been revealed, and my options fit in fine, which is good - but a lot of my friends are having to switch options or go elsewhere! :bawling:

my exams are going to be round the time off bb7 so i wont be watching the live feeds as much
What I find is that its best to start a month or 2 before the exam, but dont do loads, 20 mins a day - just keep "topping up" your memoery of the subjects and gradually increase the amount of time you spend revising as the exam date gets closer, they you'll do fine.
Ive got my AS module results of Friday :bored:

Yup, that's right. We're the group that gets labelled "the boffs" throughout school by default!
I'm dreading the Chemistry - this mod involves Titration and Moles, which I can't get my head around!
Physics is pretty awful too, with all the different equations! Saying this though, I'm not a sciencey person - English, Geog and History are more by forte! :spin2: How about you? :puzzled:
yeah i do History for AS Level, its good - i didnt get much further than covalent bonding with chemistry and all that stuff, i did Double Award Foundation, still got a C-C though so i didnt care really, good luck :spin:
hah, dont even get me started on Physics, god knows how i passed that
woo i got 106/120 in History = Grade A
68/120 in Psychology = Grade C (2 marks off a B )
Im really pleased, especially with History

cheers Pipergun, i reckon you'll do fine in your science mods, i think i got 41/60 in my science thing (i assume these are sc1's?) and i was a dum-dum at science so you'll do amazing

I don't expect you to complete any, but so you know the style of them, past papers are provided at Link (http://www.aqa.org.uk/qual/gcse/physmod_assess.html)
Given Physics as the example - found that awful on Weds!
nooo it brings back memories of physics :bored:

I've only got 2 maths & a science one for this year though.
Then again, we do get the rest of the day off after an exam so it's all good. :spin: .. looking forward to them now.
2 maths and a science. Only way i'm going to get anywere near my science target (grade C) is if i revise everything i have done which is veryyy unlikely or if miracles were real. I'm rruubbiisshh at science.

BB-Rocks, i wouldn't worry about it. From what you've said, you have revised A LOT so you'll do great on them.
Plus, if you worry then you'll do worse well so i've been told.
Hopefully my more laidbacked attitude to exams (not in the sense i don't revise but that i don't worry over them) will help me a bit more.
Also, if you do $hit then there's always re-sits. Look on the bright side.

I start with German Listening, which is where you listen to a group of Germans talking and have to answer questions on it as you go through.
Likewise I'm fairly, but perhaps foolishly, confident on it, as we've had so many practise tests! Hopefully if we start with confidence, that should follow through! I stress the "hopefully" part, though!

You make it sound like a spelling test Becca!!
Our class always has a laugh in the listening tests: the female voices always sound so masculine, and we sometimes mistake them for men!!
Some have the most uglly sounding names, like Birgitte (Pronounced Beer-gitter), I'm sure there are some more attractive names they could think of to compensate on the masculinity! :spin2:

I'm presently struggling over writing an article to describe the state of culture within America. I've done Iraq, Sheffield, America to finish and then Ethiopia!
Geography can be soo annoying ........ :conf:
Quite bizarre that they picked Sheffield as a case study in amongst other countries!! :puzzled:
BigSister
01-05-2006, 11:43 AM
oh it is annoying and complicated. Semantics is the best 1 out of the 3 but i have another 1 called Communication studies which is like advertising adverts etc we dont have an exam in that and then we had 2 half modules called English over Time and space which was like history of english and 1 called text/discourse which all the tutors are panicking lol because the tutor is rubbish. There was another 1 as well but that wasnt important
And then I have my literature exam as well but thats just 1 exam so thats ok. Thats 2 h and the Lang 1 is 3 hours an hour for each exam!

I think it'd be best for you to forget completely about school for now, as you're not going to do any productive revision at this time of night. Go to the exam tomorrow with a clear mind and try to relax for the rest of tonight!

Awww poor Tom.
In my credit admin exam, i never finished and i new wouldn't! So i answeared all the 6 and 8 marker questions towards the end and missed out about 6 of the 2 markers - so i think ill get a 2! Which isn't so bad, plus my practical maek which is a 1 so my overall mark will be a 1!
I was worried when i got because everyone else had finished the exam - but most people must have thought 'look at the time' and rushed everything. Fingers crossed i past .. if i didn't ill sit it again next year i suppose

I don't know if you have this trouble but nearly everybody seems to finish the Maths Calculator and Non-Calc exams, having checked through with at least 30 mins to spare of doing nothing.
Each of these exams is 2hrs long, so I don't see why they can't just shorten the allotted time to put us all out of out misery! :conf:
BB-Rocks
02-05-2006, 09:01 PM
Yeah im like that. For chemistry we get 2 hours and i usually finish it in an huor - may not be a good thign but i always pass.
For my exam today .. no way was their time to finish! You may think im just saying that but even the smartest in the class were not finished! You don't even ahve time to check over your answears. Thats one thing i hate about the SQA! Never enough time.
Tomorrow i ahve english - the reading is a nighmare - you ahve 50minutes to read a passage and answear 30 questions on it!

English is a nightmare for us!
We have 3 seperate English exams.
The first: English Literature, consists of A Heaney, Clarke and 2 x Pre 1914 poetry question and a "Lord of the Flies" question.
I'll have to check the other two, but the first has to be completed within a 1hr 45 min time frame.
Good luck with your English tomorrow!

Tell me about it, I can see why though, during the test they were whispering and giggling to eachother whilst me and fellow 6th formers were wasting our time trying to help them which I thought was just pure disrespectful so to be honest I have no sympathy for them whatsoever - lol during the test I saw a question saying "Mark where -2 would go on the scale below" the scale was an ascending thingy from about +10 degrees to -10 degrees, and you'd never guess what, this kid marked where +2 would go, I felt like I was going to cry out and say NOOO how the hell can that be... but I couldnt

Thing is with Standard Grades you cant fail .. so they say
For instance Credit you need a 1 or a 2 and if you dont get it you get a '7' which is a fail but they exam board tend to say its a pass.
You can get a 7 if you right your name on the paper!

*deep breath* OK, I got the results back from a couple of exams I've done so far. We're in the sort of calm before the storm stage, where you do a couple of exams before the week of exams.
I passed my French ERV (it's pass or fail, no grades). I passed my German Listening (22/26). I scraped a pass in Chemistry (57%. *runs*)

Oh dear.
Well, I've only got 7 exams, thankfully. But 3 of them are exams which you have to sit two papers, both 3 hours and 20 minutes long. French is 3 hours and 20 minutes including listening exam and my other three are 3 hours long. So rather long!
They start June 7th and finish on the 19th.
Good luck not getting distracted by BB, Tom. I remember doing my accounting mock exam the day before I met Kelly and I wa sso distracted I managed to scrape a whole 16%
Good luck to all doing exams.

Well, it's 16% better than nothing at all!
It might not sound quite so severe, but I only managed 45% in my Mock Physics exam in December, which raised a few eyebrows considering I was supposed to be a "capable" student. Oh how I hate being labelled! :bored:
I can get by on the modular, multiple choice exams, but when it comes to explaining the reasoning behind Sciences, I just can't do it!
Oh well, it's the personality that makes the person, after all, and not the grades! (I convince myself!) Luckily, I'm not doing any Sciences for A-Level in 6th Form! :spin2:
I can't imagine 3hrs 20mins of French, I'd want to incinerate all the croissants I could find afterwards!
One of my mates got cautioned by the school after the German Writing mocks, as we had so much time to spare, he had doodled "Heil Hitler!" and "Mein Fuhrer" on his script, translating as "Hail Hitler, my leader!" - Not good! :blush2:
Just realised I have written an absolute essay - it's no surprise English is my strongest subject!

Uhoh, Lance - prepare yourself, there's tonnes of incomprehensible jargon, but... you asked for it!.....
Yep, it sounds a similar setup, Davie! It's the same format for Biology, Chemistry and Physics:
During the year, we've had three modular (multiple choice, in which you put a dot in either circle ABC or D for Q1,2,3,4 and the 5.1-5.4 up to 10.4) exams for each subject, with each exam accounting for 10% of our final grades. We've also completed one piece of coursework for each subject, which is worth 20% of the final mark, hence the terminal for each is worth 50% - Eeek!
As for the topics covered, from reading off the sheet i've got, Here goes!!:
Biology:
Module 3: Environment
Module 4: Inheritance and Selection
Module 20: Biology in Action
Module 19: Moving and Feeding
Module 1: Humans as Organisms
Module 2: Maintenance of Life
Chem:
Mod 7: Patterns of chemical change
Mod 8: Structure and bonding
Mod 22: Chemistry in action
Mod 21: Aqueous and organic chemistry
Mod 5: Metals
Mod 6: Earth materials
Physics:
Mod 11: Forces
Mod 12: Waves and radiation
Mod 24: Forces and motion
Mod 23: Physics in action
Mod 9: Energy
Mod 10: Electricity
Now....... if anyone can understand that, I think you deserve the Smarties award, Pullitzer Prize, Nobel Peace Prize, The Iron Cross, or whatever they call them! Hehe!

OMG, no way!?
That sounds pi$$ easy. Ours is nothing like that.
We have two sections to our exams. Aptly named Section A and Section B.
Section A gives you the title of 4 experiments. You have to explain 3 of them in great detail. They are from a list of mandatory experiments we are to do in class over two years. There's 24 of them we have to know.
Section B you have to answer like 8 questions which have 5/6 parts each, I think. And they're long questions requiring definitions and mathematical work. They are based on all the fundamental topics we do: Light, Heat, Waves, Electronics, Particle, Statics, Moments, Forces etc..
No multiple choice though.:bored:
BB-Rocks
09-05-2006, 08:21 PM
Not really
The 2nd half of the exam is like that .. lol
All our sciences .. Bio Chemsitry and Phsics are all multipal choice questions but the 2nd half is worth more marks. Its hard but its easy if you don't know anything you can just circle it.
And the expeirment part .. we do that during the eyar its out folio and its 1/3 of out grade

Multiple choice isn't as easy as it sounds... granted we have the correct answer somewhere in front of us, but unlike other exams, the examiners seem to deliberately go out to trick you, changing tiny details in each answer.
Plus, they use countless double negatives in their questions. I can't think of an appropriate example, but it's similar to "which element doesn't refuse to repel the negatively charged cathode?" Plus, in tight time constraints, it's harder than it sounds, honest!!

Sorry to hear about the assignment, Becca - I always seem to get essays and coursework at exactly the wrong times!
On the fainting, I'm fine now, thanks! Just a few annoying, grazes after I fell out of the door onto the pavement, like an utter twonk!
Everybody was watching a video, and heard a huge crash, and so they all came rushing round which made me feel even more silly, lol! :blush2:
