Good day of motorsport today, the British touring cars are back on ITV 4.

I feel a bit sorry for button only getting 5 points and when the camera went to Kimi that was hilarious, he's stood there eating an ice cream in flip flops, shorts and a t-shirt! Dissapointing again for Mclaren and Ferrari, no points for Ferrari and just the one for Mclaren

There's highlights on BBC 3 at 7:00 pm. Think there is a replay on iPlayer also.

First race in touring cars was action packed.

I got a bit confused when I got back in the car(Went to scatter my grandadas ashes this morning so only saw the first 20 mins then had to set off). Then i checked on my phone and it all made sense
Never heard that done before though halving the points

Iceman
05-04-2009, 01:34 PM
They said the last time it happened with the points was 1984, 4 years before my time so i don't remember, Brawn cars looked excellent in the rain considering it was the first time they've both drove them in the rain!

cheers will catch it on bbc3 later
i found kimi in his shorts eating a icecream made even more humourous by when someone spoke to someone from ferrai who obviously had no idea that kimi had decided to retire and did think he would be back in car should it restart and the other comedy moment rob smeddley (i guess) saying felippe baby calm down :laugh3:

Why coulndt they jus postpone the race or something? that was really stupid. Especially given that it was in the middle of people makin their pit stops. It makes no sense.

ange7
05-04-2009, 02:53 PM
conditions were pretty dangerous, monsoonal rain plus low light.... they were right to suspend it and see if the rain cleared. As far as postponing it... the logistics of organising a race day are huge and costly... they got 32 laps in so I guess they figured that was enough. I liked watching Glock's run on intermediates plus Webber and Hamilton's battle. Shame it ended like that.

Iceman
05-04-2009, 07:05 PM
Yeah Felipe baby calm down, were getting you a clear visor:joker::joker:

Also when they interviewed Hamilton and they were like 7th place, he goes 5th wasn't it? Then they're like no 7th, the sheer disappointment and comedic element on his face!

McLaren called to WMSC by the FIA The FIA has released the following statement:

"Vodafone McLaren Mercedes has been invited to appear before an extraordinary meeting of the FIA World Motor Sport Council in Paris on Wednesday, 29 April, 2009, to answer charges that, in breach of Article 151c of the International Sporting Code, it

- on 29 March, 2009, told the stewards of the Australian Grand Prix that no instructions were given to Hamilton in Car No. 1 to allow Trulli in Car no. 9 to pass when both cars were behind the safety car, knowing this statement to be untrue;

- procured its driver Hamilton the current World Champion, to support and confirm this untrue statement to the stewards;

- although knowing that as a direct result of its untrue statement to the stewards, another driver and a rival team had been unfairly penalised, made no attempt to rectify the situation either by contacting the FIA or otherwise;

- on 2 April, 2009, at a second hearing before the stewards of the Australian Grand Prix, (meeting in Malaysia) made no attempt to correct the untrue statement of 29 March but, on the contrary, continued to maintain that the statement was true, despite being allowed to listen to a recording of the team instructing Hamilton to let Trulli past and despite being given more than one opportunity to correct its false statement;

- on 2 April, 2009, at the second stewards' hearing, procured its driver Hamilton to continue to assert the truth of the false statement given to the stewards on 29 March, while knowing that what he was saying to the stewards was not true."

In response, McLaren issued the following press release:
"McLaren acknowledges receipt of an invitation to appear at an FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting in Paris on April 29, received this afternoon. We undertake to co-operate fully with all WMSC processes, and welcome the opportunity to work with the FIA in the best interests of Formula 1.

"This afternoon McLaren and its former sporting director, Dave Ryan, have formally parted company. As a result, he is no longer an employee of any of the constituent companies of the McLaren Group."

Ferrari confirmed today that if a budget cap is brought in next year they won't enter into the 2010 championship. I know a budget cap will make it fairer for other teams but F1 without Ferrari isn't F1.

EDIT:

Ferrari release statement following board meeting After a meeting of its board of directors in Italy on Tuesday, Ferrari released the following statement:

“Maranello 12 May 2009 - Ferrari’s Board of Directors, chaired by Luca di Montezemolo, today analysed the first quarter results for 2009. Despite the current international economic climate, which has hit the automotive sector in particular, Ferrari’s figures were in line with the record levels reached in 2008. Turnover for the first three months was 441 million euro compared to 455.7 million euro over the same period in 2008. The first quarter closed with a trading profit of 54 million euro compared to last year’s 59 million euro.

“These results reflect the introduction of new models, in particular the success of the Ferrari California and the Scuderia Spider 16M, the constant growth in activities linked to the brand (e-commerce, licensing, merchandising and retail) and the company’s continuing efforts to maximise efficiency.

“The Board of Directors also examined developments related to recent decisions taken by the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile during an extraordinary meeting of the World Motor Sport Council on 29 April 2009. Although this meeting was originally called only to examine a disciplinary matter, the decisions taken mean that, for the first time ever in Formula One, the 2010 season will see the introduction of two different sets of regulations based on arbitrary technical rules and economic parameters.

“The Board considers that if this is the regulatory framework for Formula One in the future, then the reasons underlying Ferrari’s uninterrupted participation in the World Championship over the last 60 years - the only constructor to have taken part ever since its inception in 1950 - would come to a close.

“The Board also expressed its disappointment about the methods adopted by the FIA in taking decisions of such a serious nature and its refusal to effectively reach an understanding with constructors and teams. The rules of governance that have contributed to the development of Formula One over the last 25 years have been disregarded, as have the binding contractual obligations between Ferrari and the FIA itself regarding the stability of the regulations. The same rules for all teams, stability of regulations, the continuity of the FOTA’s endeavours to methodically and progressively reduce costs, and governance of Formula One are the priorities for the future. If these indispensable principles are not respected and if the regulations adopted for 2010 will not change, then Ferrari does not intend to enter its cars in the next Formula One World Championship.

“Ferrari trusts that its many fans worldwide will understand that this difficult decision is coherent with the Scuderia’s approach to motor sport and to Formula One in particular, always seeking to promote its sporting and technical values. The Chairman of the Board of Directors was mandated to evaluate the most suitable ways and methods to protect the company’s interests.”

Renault say they will leave also if the proposals go through.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8048112.stm

I agree that F1 wouldn't be the same without Ferrari but I don't really see what alternative series they could go to. It says in the link above that they could 'set up a rival series, compete in the United States, or enter cars in the Le Mans 24 hour race.'

Single-seater racing isn't a big sport in the US so I don't think that would match their ambition and there are already Ferraris at Le Mans (GT cars).

I suppose the real threat is they could start a breakaway series. I hope it is all just bluffing.

FERRARI have applied to a French court for an injunction against proposed changes in Formula One.
The Italian team this week threatened to withdraw at the end of this season unless revisions are made to the new regulations.

Central to the argument is the claim that an optional £40million budget cap to be imposed for next year could create a two-tier F1.

Ferrari officials and other team bosses met then with FIA president Max Mosley and F1 chief Bernie Ecclestone today to discuss the current crisis.

Speaking after the crunch talks, Mosley said: "During the meeting it became apparent that Ferrari have made an application to the French courts to apply for an injunction to stop us doing what we want to do.

“It was a friendly meeting but the teams have gone off to see if they can come up with something better than the cost cap."

Looks like this is going to get ugly fast!

French court rules against Ferrari in FIA case.

A French court has dismissed a legal bid from Ferrari to prevent Formula One racing’s governing body, the FIA, from introducing new rules for the 2010 season.

Ferrari have objected to FIA plans to give increased levels of technical freedom to teams accepting a voluntary £40 million budget cap, claiming it will create a ‘two-tier’ championship.

The world champions also claimed that the FIA did not have the right to introduce such changes without their agreement. However, the Tribunal de Grande Instance in Paris found that Ferrari had no valid reason to block the FIA plans.

Responding to the decision, the FIA said: "No competitor should place their interests above those of the sport in which they compete. The FIA, the teams and our commercial partners will now continue to work to ensure the wellbeing of Formula One in 2010 and beyond."

Teams have until May 29 to lodge their application for the 2010 FIA Formula One World Championship. Ferrari are one of a number of teams who have suggested they will not compete next season if the planned rules are not changed.

FERRARI will be on the Formula One grid in 2010.

The Italians had threatened to quit the sport unless the FIA dropped plans to introduce a £40million budget cap from next season.

But with the deadline today for entry into the 2010 championship, Ferrari — along with the other existing teams — are set to sign up.

They are willing to accept a compromise with an £85m cap next year before the £40m restriction comes into effect in 2011.

The actual budget will be much higher as engine costs, drivers’ wages, hospitality and marketing are not included.

With Ferrari’s drivers on mega-bucks — Kimi Raikkonen earns £30m — they will be operating on around £145m next year.

Great news for any F1 fan:cheer:

The fact is Rubens isn't going to win or challenge for the title, his best years were at Ferrari and he had to play wing man to Schumi.
Vettel isn't consistent enough to challenge.
Trulli isn't consistent enough to challenge.
Webber bottles it a lot so he won't do anything major.
Hamilton is having his worst racing year ever.
Kovalinen is struggling with the car.
The Iceman's head isn't in it again this year I expect him to retire.
Massa is struggling with set-up and KERS.
No other driver can win this except Button and if he loses it he only has himself to blame for it!

MAX MOSLEY has told F1 to F-off as the bitter £1billion battle for control of the sport descends into open warfare.

Motor-racing supremo Mosley has threatened to sue all eight teams vowing to quit the FIA and set up their own championship.

British legend Jackie Stewart also weighed in to demand Mosley steps down before the entire sport self-destructs.

But Mosley, 69, broke his silence to come out punching - refusing to budge from his position as president of the FIA and setting in motion a £1bn legal battle.

Jenson Button's Brawn GP team, Ferrari, McLaren, Renault, BMW Sauber, Toyota, Red Bull Racing and Toro Rosso have all refused to accept Mosley's proposed £40million spending cap for next season.

Instead, the eight members of the Formula One Teams' Association announced they were quitting to set up their own grand-prix circus.

But Mosley blasted: "Basically, the teams don't want agreement - they want sporting power and money.

"Many have already been paid half of their participation fees until 2012 up front and in one case they would have to pay back £100m, while others will run to tens of millions.

"The amounts involved could be massive if we go for damages to Formula One. Breakaway? Pure fantasy, they know it is fantasy. It is never going to happen.

"If they set up the Golden Steering Wheel Championship, who will want to watch it?

"It is not the FIA Formula One World Championship. That is what counts. I know because I once tried to set up a rival series with Bernie Ecclestone.

"I am less likely now to step down in October because any thoughts I had about retiring are fading.

"If I dropped dead tomorrow they will probably get someone worse than me, with far less understanding of F1."

Mosley is confident a compromise settlement will be reached in time for the 2010 season.

He said: "I don't take it as seriously as some people do because I know that it is all posturing and posing.

"It will all stop some time between the beginning of 2010 and March 2010, the first race.

"All this will stop, it will all settle down and everyone will go racing.

"I am completely confident because, in the end, people do whatever is in their interests.

"It is in the interests of the teams to be in the F1 world championship and there's actually no fundamental or important issue that is stopping them taking part. It is all about personalities and power and who can grab what from whom - which is easy when nothing is at stake but when it gets to the first race and it is make-your-mind-up time, they'll be there."

Earlier, the FIA issued a dramatic statement from their Paris HQ, insisting their lawyers "will be issuing legal proceedings without delay".

Ferrari recently lost their bid for an injunction to stop proposed changes to the sport.

They refused to comment further but other FOTA members remain adamant they will stick to their bombshell announcement.

Brawn GP team owner Ross Brawn said: "The teams' ambition is not to take over F1 but they have a massive investment in it. They want their investment protected."

McLaren team boss Martin Whitmarsh added: "FOTA's position isn't that we don't want to cut costs, we do.

"Ultimately, we're very close in many things. And that is perhaps one of the sad things.

"If you look at FOTA's position and the FIA, there are a lot of common views and yet, for whatever reasons - maybe personal relationships - we weren't able to come to an arrangement."

Mosley saying he's staying, mocking other teams, I've now changed my mind he can go and have F1 with three crap teams and a load of newbies it will fall flat on it's face.

No breakaway next season. That was sorted out quick.

An agreement has been reached between Formula 1's governing body and the teams to prevent a breakaway series, says FIA president Max Mosley.

The two parties had been engulfed in a bitter row over planned budgetary and technical changes for the 2010 season.

But it appears a resolution has now been found and, as part of the deal, Mosley has agreed not to stand for re-election as president.

"There will be no split. We have agreed to a reduction of costs," added Mosley.

"There will be one F1 championship but the objective is to get back to the spending levels of the early 90s within two years."

F1 surpremo Bernie Ecclestone added that he is "very happy common sense has prevailed", following a meeting of 120 members of the FIA in Paris aimed at resolving the crisis.

Ahead of the meeting, Mosley had insisted that he would not step down as part of any potential agreement and might even seek re-election as head of world motor sport.

He hit out at what he described as "wholly unjustified criticism" of the FIA, adding: "It is for the FIA membership, and the FIA membership alone, to decide on its democratically elected leadership, not the motor industry and still less the individuals the industry employs to run its Formula 1 teams."

However, it appears Mosley has now agreed to move aside when his fourth term as FIA president ends in October, saying: "I will not be up for re-election, now we have peace."

Furthermore, writs that had been threatened against Ferrari and the other teams in the Formula 1 Teams Association (Fota) - McLaren, BMW Sauber, Renault, Toyota, Red Bull Racing, Toro Rosso and Brawn GP - are likely to be shelved.

The agreement ends two months of wrangling since Mosley announced after a World Council meeting at the end of April that a voluntary £40m budget cap would be imposed from next season - a plan that prompted a rebellion from eight teams, with Fota announcing on Thursday they were planning a rival series.

But the new agreement ends that threat, while still maintaining the "financial viability" of teams which had been targeted with the initial cap, said Mosley. As part of the agreement, existing teams must help new outfits with their engines and chassis.

"It's come as a bit of a surprise, given that Fota were planning to meet in Bologna on Thursday to discuss their plans for the breakaway championship," reported BBC sports news correspondent James Munro from Paris.

"But what we got today after a meeting of World Motorsport Council was an impromptu press conference and Mosley began by saying there will be no split, there will be one championship.

"He said that over the course of the negotiations he had been able to secure guarantees from the teams who were threatening to break away that they would try to reign back the levels of their spending to the levels they were spending in the early 90s.

"It was him that had come up with the idea that next season all teams would have a budget cap of about £40m, but there has clearly been a trade-off as he has also agreed to do what he says was always the plan - stand down as president of the FIA this October."

It is not the first time Mosley has promised to stand down as FIA president, however.

In June 2004, Mosley announced then he would stand down from his position in October of that year - only to rescind his decision a month later and secure re-election.

investigation into webber and barrichello
they just said there a bump on the track that could have caused hamiltons puncture

ange7
12-07-2009, 12:23 PM
didn't see Webber's front wing punture Hamilton but webber's move against barri was touch and go....
edit... ooops drive through penalty .... lol dam.

pinkmichk
12-07-2009, 12:25 PM
i dont think it was webber who caused hamiltons puncture?
webber was on for a good race but a drive through isnt going to do him any favours

ange7
12-07-2009, 12:30 PM
he's never going to win a race ever is he :( lol
re hamilton. those bbc commentators mentioned that Webber's clipped Hamilton'ns tyre on the first bend but now they're on about some bump in the road...so I don't know.

pinkmichk
12-07-2009, 12:32 PM
yeah at first i think they were saying down to webber but then they played a replay and said it looked like hamilton had picked it up before the clip from webber

The end of this race is going to be great, Massa doing a great job holding them up, webber could be back in contention!!!

pinkmichk
12-07-2009, 12:45 PM
i agree webber could actually pull it back

Iceman
12-07-2009, 12:46 PM
Ferrari can only hold them up because of KERS, hopefully they agree it will be gone next year and we can see who is really better!

He's contracted to one more but I don't think he'll stay, I hope he does he's my favourite driver. I do think a certain Fernando will be in red pretty soon.

ange7

lol kimi strikes again....but to be fair aren't drivers coming out of pits meant to be on a blue flag?

pinkmichk
12-07-2009, 12:52 PM
tbh i'm suprised he is racing this season i thought he was going to go at the end of last season his heart doesnt seem to be in the racing any more

Iceman
12-07-2009, 12:55 PM
yeah he got what he wanted, became champion and has a few records to his name. He's there in the history books, I think he'll go though. Kimi under investigation, webber has lead again!

Well the thing with Brawn is people said they would drop off after 2-3 races, they held on for longer than they should have. Brawn have everything to lose and I dont think Jenson has the head for it.

i agree about jenson

Webber done well in that after having to go thru pitlane at 60.

Iceman
12-07-2009, 02:23 PM
Webber will play wing man for the rest of the season.
Vettel will dominate like a certain German before him.
Button will fall apart in the last races of the season.
Barrichello will be an angry man and lose places easily.
Massa will maintain a 3rd -5th place finish in most races.
Kimi will retire from loads and eat ice-cream to maintain his iceman powers.
Lewis will be too aggressive like today and crash out, possible injury on the cards.

The rest will be meh...

My pick after halfway point of the season is Vettel!

:laugh3:

agree now webber has got a win i reckon he will go back to being 2nd behind vettel who has had a good season so far and could easily take the championship from button esp if it all gets too much for button barichello hasnt done himself any favours with the team with his on camera rant about them
as for hamilton the less said about him the better imo he has had a pretty dire season so far

Holy ****:sad::sad::sad:

They said he would be fine, they must have done more scans on his head and found that out.

Totally off topic here but with Felipe out and a free race seat on such short notice do you think we could see a certain German fill his space??

pinkmichk
25-07-2009, 06:09 PM
which german? :blush2:
i just caught a replay of the end of qualies so is alonso def on pole cos they lost all the times?
that was on the bbc sport bit on the bbc news channel you could read that on screen like teletext while at same time cos it was showing a replay of qualies he hadnt even left the track at that point

Was just on Massa's website there and they said he's in having the operations now and will then go to ICU.

It's weird that this is probably the most serious accident since Senna's and that both were Brazilian....hope he's okay:sad:

pinkmichk

i hope he is going to be ok regardless of team colour or who you are a fan of when accidents happen esp the bigger ones it makes you realise what a dangerous sport it is

i cant see him finishing the season head injuries are a big thing in any sport i know when i have had concussion they gave me a card saying no contact sport for at least 6 weeks but surely undergoing the g force in a f1 car is going to be even worse than that

thanks for the times good qualie by hamilton wonder if he will throw the race away again so not holding my breath

Just looked at that photo, that is very nasty, surprisd he wasn't knoced out for longer..................

pinkmichk
25-07-2009, 07:36 PM
that is a fast crash esp when your already knocked out while he remains critical at the mo looking at the pic a couple inches to his right and i dont think he would have got out of the car alive:sad:

Iceman
25-07-2009, 07:38 PM
If he makes it hrough this without any permanent damage to his eye or his brain i'd be surprised, I think he may have to retire to be honest, with all the G-force that would be put on him in the future it couldn't be safe.....
