Also, someone posted this on twitter, it's kinda long, but it makes a lot of sense

Ok... Gaga went to Catholic school... the confessional booth... the scene from the ‘You and I’ video by the ice cream truck and the creepy old man...she falls to the ground and then picks up the doll. There is so much imagery that represents childhood, so obviously she was young (like pre-teen) and she’s even said “I had a lot of really intense experiences when I was younger.” She also said, “the ice cream truck is meant to be a representation of the destruction of my youth at a very young time in my life.” But how do you destroy ones youth? Simple: by taking away the one thing that represents their youth, which is their innocence. But before I come to my conclusion let’s take a look at the Rolling Stone’s interview from July of 2010. Gaga was asked, “You have a lot of things in your behavior that are signs of someone who had a traumatic experience in adolescence or childhood. Is that something you would ever discuss publicly?” Instead of denying the claim, Gaga simply responded, “Probably not.” TRAUMATIC CHILDHOOD EXPERIENCE. DESTRUCTION OF YOUTH. Do you see where I am going with this? Later in the interview Gaga says, “There are some things that are so traumatic, I don’t even fully remember them.” Ok, back to the “You and I” video, because right now I believe these two fall hand in hand. Let me just go ahead and say that I think the ‘Marry The Night’ video is part one and ‘You and I’ is part two. First of all this video is FULL of imagery and symbolism, some of it not so clear, but if you know anything about literary criticism the simple things should strike you immediately. In literature and film roads are typically meant to represent “paths of life.” In this case, the road is symbolic of her journey, so it includes the choices she’s made and past experiences that are sometimes evoked. To put this into perspective, when she’s walking in, on this long road, the ice cream truck (destruction of youth) blocks her path. Whatever happened to her, happened in the past, but the memories of this experience still try to hamper her on her journey through life, and they still have an effect on her journey. She even says, “I’m battered quite brutally at the beginning of the video and by the end I’m not battered, but I’m a bit strange.” Basically the experience haunts her, and throughout that video she is being “fixed.” By the end of the video she is special and “strange.” Think for a moment... Lady Gaga herself is special and strange, so could she be a representation of herself at the end? I would say yes. But this isn’t about the ‘You and I’ video, this is about ‘Marry The Night.’ The reason I think the ‘You and I’ video will be a continuation of ‘Marry The Night’ is because of all the ‘work’ done to her in the video to make her so special at the end. You don’t fix something unless it’s broken, and she comes into the video battered and broken. But why? Other than her bloody feet and her break down in front of the ice cream truck, there is no indication of why she needs to be fixed. But that ice cream truck represents EVERYTHING that we will find out in the ‘Marry The Night’ video. It will be the first part of her journey, which is the part none of us really know about. We all know about how she became Gaga, which is basically the ‘You and I’ video, because at the end she is Gaga; strange and special. But we don’t know what it is that sparked this transformation of her “needing to be fixed,” but that’s what the ‘Marry The Night’ video will be about. In ‘Marry The Night,’ I believe we will see the first half of Gaga’s story; an indication of what traumatized her during childhood, and how it affected her later in life (ex. rebellion, self inflicted pain, drugs, depression, perhaps a suicide attempt [I’m a soldier to my own emptiness]). And, I believe that this traumatic childhood experience was sexual abuse (not from a family member, but perhaps faculty from her school) because, once again, she says the ice cream truck represents the “the destruction of her youth,” and the most traumatic way to destroy someone’s youth is by taking their innocence. Sexual abuse of any sort is traumatic and takes away your innocence. Also remember, Gaga has said she is very particular about sex and who she sleeps with. There is always a reason for everything, so there is a reason for this. So, I think that will be the ‘Marry The Night’ video. We’ll see all the things that battered her to the point of needing to be “fixed” in the ‘You and I’ video. We’ll see the first part of her journey, before she began her journey to becoming Gaga in the ‘You and I’ video. Also, I believe this line, “I won’t give up on my life,” is a representation of how she begins that journey in the ‘You and I’ video to get “fixed.” Instead of giving up and letting the traumatic experience over take her, she pushes through (I’m a warrior queen). She beings another journey, the journey that will fix her, and BAM opening scene of ‘You and I’ where she is walking in, looking battered. She goes through the journey of getting ‘fixed’ (becoming Gaga) all throughout that video, and at the end we see her as we know her today, a bit strange, but VERY special. And as far as the ice cream truck goes in the ‘You and I’ I believe it’s simply just a flashback to the past, aka what happens in the ‘Marry The Night’ video. This is just my theory though. I may be completely wrong, but based on all the things I know and clues she’s given, I really think this could be it.

But on this night, while it’s being filmed on a closed set, it is clear that it’s a very, very personal story. There is footage of Gaga in a dance class, when she was just starting her career. There is a scene where she is lugging her keyboard up the flights of stairs in her old apartment building, with neighbors coming out of their apartments to stare at her. The director of photography is Darius Khondji, who did Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris, and Gaga speaks to Darius in fairly fluent French. She laughs when she sees the playback of her falling down the stairs—very physical, Lucille Ball–style—with her keyboard. And then there are the two scenes that she says depict the worst day of her life.

Over a year and a half ago, when she talked to me about “the worst day of my life,” she said she had never talked about it before. But all she would reveal at that time was that she called her mother, who screamed into the phone and went to get her at her Stanton Street apartment, and that she was dropped by her first record label, Island Def Jam, on the same day. Soon afterward, she and her mother went to visit her grandmother in West Virginia. Now, in this video, she says, she is reliving “the worst day of my life.” In one scene, Gaga, with obvious bruises on her body, looks completely drugged and out of it as she is wheeled on a gurney into a hospital—which, she pointedly tells me, is a “women’s clinic.” (Although, she says, in this video “the nurses are wearing Calvin Klein ‘uniforms’ and Yves Saint Laurent shoes.”) Following the hospital scene, a woman playing the part of her best friend, Bo, takes her back to her Stanton Street apartment, where Gaga undresses and gets into bed. She is wearing an undergarment that implies what might have happened in the hospital. And then, after she’s in bed, she gets a phone call informing her that she’s been dropped by her record label. Prior to filming this scene, Gaga asks the few of us assembled in her trailer how far she should go with this. She decides to go all the way. “It’s chaotic,” she says, “and sad. But I don’t want it to be safe. It has to be humiliating.”

Outside the set made to look like her original apartment—with a mattress on the floor, dirty dishes in the sink, a hot plate, open cereal boxes, a leather jacket draped over a chair, a keyboard—she prepares to film the scene. She has a short dark wig on and is wearing a Stéphane Rolland dress that has latex blood along the hem. She and “Bo” are wearing gloves and heels. “We look like we just came from church,” she says, joking, then takes a sip out of a bottle of Jameson’s. I mutter something about how the Catholic Church will view this. “What, as if I’m their pinup girl to begin with?” she asks. Clearly, this was a traumatic day when it happened. Now this video is a cathartic experience for her. The soundtrack comes on; she tells me it’s the Beethoven sonata Pathétique. As she prepares to film the scene, she starts to cry, and hugs her choreographer, Richie Jackson. She’s the director and the actress, and, she says, with those two jobs “I have to get my bearings.” Then she adds, “I’m getting ready to relive the worst day of my life.” Tears roll down her face, and she turns to me. The 'Born This Way' star claimed the top spot in the Top-Earning Women In Music List compiled by Forbes, who revealed that the singer made $90 million (£58 million) this year.
