I'm interested to see what it's like tonight. Of course the football is going to damage the ratings. But i think the show is quickly turning into something of a bore-a-thon with the constant evictions of interesting housemates and wouldn't be surprised to see ratings drop constantly from here on in.
I'll watch tonight, but if i couldn't i definitely wouldn't be too bothered and that's a real shame.

No, it has a hardcore following of 1M+. Everything would have been effected by last nights match.
Well, it's true that those ratings aren't high at all, but even hardcore BB fans like myself, watched the football instead of BB last night so I can see why the ratings fell so low. It should be back to usual tonight though and tomorrow should see even better ratings as people always like to tune-in to find the results to the nominations.

871k is okay for it. Think about it. Channel 4 One Born Every Minute which normally gets 3m got 510k last night. A fact for you is that out of all the shows on against the match, BB lost the SMALLEST % of audience (around 40%). Also noteworthy that last time BB faced a match, 56% of the audience was lost. Emmerdale sunk to under 5m (and that was only facing the start of the match).
Match peaked at 23.2m during penalties.
BB even almost escaped being lowest. Say what you want, but I think it did good to be the only show not to drop by over half.
Even if OMEM was a repeat, all others shows dropped by 50-60%. ITV struggled to get 2m. So buckle up and look forward to these next few ratings... ALSO that BB episode will timeshift VERY WELL.

Still BB had the smallest drop of all shows. I mean, with opposition of over 23.2m, what you expect?
Its laughable people thought it would do better. In BB5, it dropped from 5.5m to 1.9m in one day for the match.
All the ratings experts are saying the rating was respectable for any show on at the same time.

Weds- 1.92m
Thursday- 1.93m
Friday- 1.78m
Saturday- 1.64m
Sunday- 1.84m
Monday- 1.97m
Tuesday- 1.90m
Those all INCLUDE +1.
So NOT including:

Thursday- 1.92m (massive change, will go over 2m surely with +1).
Friday- 1.83m
Saturday- 1.60m
Sunday- 1.60m
Those ratings not incl +1 are very impressive. Especially the Thursday 1.92m excl +1.
Every single show apart from the eviction show comfortably up on last series. And that's without +1! The Thursday rise is particularly notable, up a massive 40%.
Overall then week 2 averaged 1.73m excluding +1, up 12% on last year's 1.53m. The total rise including +1 is approximately 20-23%.

That's actually wrong, as as been noted, and that is completely irrelevant to the discussion. Do let me know if BB12 ever had to compete with a show that had (at one point) 23.2 million viewers, attracting 77% of the entire available audience.
It seems there are some on here who fail to grasp that none of the other shows stood a chance against such a high-rated show.

I don't understand what's happening with the ratings.... I knew it wouldn't increase, looks like people were just disgusted by Conor not being removed and shunted the show. BB have missed a massive trick by not getting him out and putting them all up. This week has been awful viewing in terms of nastiness and I think people are getting a bit worried for some of the HMs.

There is no joy in saying 'told ya so' but plenty of people strongly encouraged BB to get shelved for a few years.
Even 2 seasons (call it 4 seasons if you include CBB).
Or look at it like this: IF this was the first time we saw BB on channel 5. This was the premiere of the 'Big Brother Reboot'?
I believe there would be much higher ratings and maybe more importantly - potential for ever-increasing ratings as it went along.
*tbh I think skipping another summer is better yet.
Now, here is the strange thing. 5 got it right this summer! They got the sweet science and put together a surprisingly great combination of HM! I see some good stuff in editing, BOTS, some really good directions,
yet,
I think they just continue to see the decline. They did not 'Reboot' so much as just milk it for whatever was left. They appealed to remaining C4 fans (good short-term payout) but had no genuine rest and reboot.
Its too bad really. This actually is a very worthwhile season and it still has loads of potential. Yet, it simply won't get the numbers.
iRyan
29-06-2012, 03:20 AM
I do think the re-launch in August/September was a bad idea. There would have been more hype and anticipation if this summer was the beginning, because 2 years would have passed.

Or better yet realise this is the uk and we say SERIES not "seasons".

Nope they didn't. DS on the main article page never includes Ch5+1, it says if it does. As it didn't for either of these ratings, I am pretty sure they both exclude +1. Just waiting on a couple of posters on there to reveal the +1 if they have it.

1.46m isn't bad at all! It could be higher but it's a start and perhaps representative of how the ratings should fare without heavy competition, i.e. clashing with shows that attract many viewers, such as Euro 2012.

You're right - quite the opposite.
However, you could argue that the amount of controversy that has been caused has turned on viewers, not necessarily because the quality is good. At least people are watching, though.

Those figures are on par with last year's figures and whilst there has admittedly been an apparent drop in comparison to previous years all terrestrial television has seen a drop in ratings. It will take a while for Big Brother to recover its lost viewers but the good thing is that it's maintaining last year's standards at least.

Compared to Ch4, of course. But I do think it beat every single eviction bar three of BB12 (or is it just two?). Being on Ch5, we can only compare it to BB12 really.
With an all up eviction next week if they do it, it has the potential to surpass 1.6m.
I think the announcement peak of 1.8m is impressive, and then it averaged around 1.6m after the announcement.

I'd actually agree with this, on the plus side it does seem to slowly but surely be getting more press coverage again
Quite alot of journalists like reporting on BB, but take for instance NEWS CORP which owns like 3 papers, mirror, sun and previously NOTW.
I heard rumours that the higher up's and Murdoch had banned all BB coverage in there paper's.
Sadly the only way BB will be all cool again in some people's eyes, is if more then like 2 papers and a few gossip mag's report on it.

I'm going to be serious. This is about demographics and aim and this is language used by BB people. Even gay ones. So don't get 'PC' on this:
IF you decide to aim everything you got at the 15 year old girls, liberal-minded, homosexual audience then you CAN AND WILL be rewarded with a strong 800,000 dedicated core audience who, as we say over here, gives the most 'bang for the buck'. Most pop for the pound.
But less instantly gratifying is casting that broad net and 8 million fans less likely to smash voting lines or buy as many mobile apps can still pay-off big overall.
it MIGHT be... it MIGHT BE... the BB folks at 5 have seen this. Heard this. Not everyone wants to see OUTRAGEOUS GAY CLUB PARTY with combined NUTS MAGAZINE LIVE!!!!!!
Not everyone.
Maybe just take that down a notch. Maybe there is 10 minutes to put towards the psychology nerds out their. Who might think it's very intriguing to put on those sociology experiments (assigning some as scientists etc).
Or, have some 'normals' like an ordinary overweight girl or a short heavyset guy.
So BB might just be onto something here. Maybe. I think they are going the right way. I just dont know if this is a classic case of 'too little, too late'?

People were predicting sub 1m for last night because of the match. I think the opposite happened, judging by the thrashing last night of the match, a massive amount of people switched off the Euro, and some turned to BB. BB was only around 60k lower than ITV at the same time showing the Euro. I'm sure it beat BBC2 and Ch4 too.
I mean lately getting 1.4m. Only a loss of 100k during the Euro final is impressive. I don't know how anyone could have thought it would have gone higher than what it's been getting lately, with the biggest competition there could possibly be.
Euro averaged just over 10m on BBC1 and 2m on ITV, combined rating of 12m average.

Not really. Normal football is. Euro's and World Cup's are completely different, hence why normal matches average around 4m and Euro matches average 12m. The biggest competition for BB is over. Euro and WC has always been a problem for ANY show. All the soaps have been at 6m-7m, when they are normally at 8.5m at this time of the year. You need to look at the other ratings to understand how big the Euro's actually, people underestimate it.

People always go on about how the main show alone and how it did. So during the first showing BB did beat Ch4. Only by 20k though.
I'm not being OTT when I think it did very, very well against the match last night. 1.27m against the Euro final which peaked at a combined 15m+ is not to be sniffed at. It did better than numerous episodes of the last few days against much tougher competition.
BB will recover tonight to normal levels, as will every other programme. ITV had the 2nd lowest share of all time on Saturday and one of the lowest ever last night. BBC1 dominated with the match, so don't put it down to the quality of BB, put it down to the biggest event in the last 4 years.

BB3 was on during the world cup and thats the highest rated series to date.
Im not comparing Channel 5 viewers to how they were back in the day because i know that we are never going to see massive viewing figures anymore but the whole euro argument is just not valid imo.
What was last years excuse?
Ratings have been so low in the last week that im afraid the series average is gonna be down on last year which doesnt look good when it comes to renewing the classic BB next year.
The 1st 2 weeks officials were realy impressive with the show almost averaging 2 million but week 3's officials highlights are getting about 1.4/1.5 mostly. BB12's 3rd weeks episodes mostly got 1.6.
Plus last nights episode was sub 1 million without +1
Big Brother, airing earlier at 9pm, drew 975k (4.5%) for Channel 5 and 132k (0.7%) on +1
I dont know where you got 1.27 from when its 1.1 roughly and i also dont know where you got the 184K for +1 figure?
This isnt me being down on the ratings for the sake of it, im just stating the facts and not sugar coating things.

Good news for week 3 by the sounds of it then!
Surely, with all the time-shift and on-demand programming available, overnights are only indicative - over the days following a major event, people play catch-up and the "officials" reflect the "true" viewing figures, which for ITV and BBC, could, presumably, be enhanced enormously and, for the lesser channels, hardly at all (numerically) ..... :conf:

Ratings have been so low in the last week that im afraid the series average is gonna be down on last year which doesnt look good when it comes to renewing the classic BB next year.
Classic BB has been renewed for another 2 years, don't worry.

All i read was that BB has been renewed but that doesnt mean they could just do a celeb series instead as its the same contract.

You haven't responded to any of my other points and i was actually interested what you thought.
Week 3's eviction was 1.85 but most of the other ratings were 1.4/1.5 officially compared to the weeks before getting mostly 1.7/1.8. Last week only 1 episode dropped below 1.7 million.

That was wrong. It's been removed already because that week was actually the week that just went... (the 1.85 was down as Lydia's eviction), when that was just Friday. It's been deleted already. Those were all fake ones. We don't even know the week before's full ones yet. Look up on BARB it's a whole different story, the Friday for BENEDICTS eviction was lower than the 1.85m, but the weekday ratings are much higher than what Wiki displayed. I'm waiting up on the DS ratings experts to update us.
And yes Patrick, so far the series average is 1.89m compared to BB12's 1.6m.
Scroll down to the channels Channel 5 and Channel 5+1. They are different to what was shown on Wiki.

They delete them themselves if they are not accurate. Just like when I jokingly put some random stuff to Justin Beiber's wiki page, it was deleted in 7 mins I recall.
Look up at the link I sent you. It's completely different to the Wiki one.

Maybe from DS. I emailed someone on there saying that they were not like the ones I saw on BARB. And yeah exactly "it's been there for days". The Friday displayed was Lydia's eviction, they seemed to have seen into the future  if you look carefully. It was the 4th column of the table, and that rating was shown on the Friday. There's been 4 evictions... so if it's been there for days, someone put the rating there before Lydia was even evicted....

So okay I'm a lurker and I am all over DS and TIBB with ratings.
I can fully back Salv up on this, the ratings are far better than what some think.
The wikipedia thing must have being someone just putting anything in.
I bet a week after BB13 is completely over, the official ratings for the series will be epic. BB is holding up quite well this year compared to BB12.

That's a very weak argument, I'm afraid to say. I would expect someone who's very vocal about the ratings to know that all television has gone down in years. Not 7 years ago EastEnders, for example, logged between 9 and 12 million viewers, a 45-55% share of the entire audience. Since about 2008 it's been down to about 7-9 million viewers, 30-40% of the entire audience.
True, you're posting facts but you can't just post raw data and get a meaningful conclusion - they're a lot more complicated than that...
And, yeah, Euro 2012 did affect everything on television. Are you telling me that a show on Channel 5 - or anywhere, in fact - could fare against 23 million viewers? Is that what you're saying?
G'wan with your ridiculous and ill thought-out logic that falls like a stack of cards whenever anyone who actually knows anything about ratings quotes you. I've said my peace.

Actually, I did talk to you in an appropriate manner, otherwise my post would have been deleted for starters.
No matter what I do, we can't change the fact thar your argument was ridiculous and untrue. I then went on to say that your ideas were ill-informed and that you were ill-informed, which basically suggests you get your facts right before engaging in such a discussion as this. I believe all this falls under the category of 'acceptable forum behaviour'.
What is the point of even posting on a forum if you don't want people to challenge what you say? If you can't handle it why post?
Point me to where it says pointing out the flaws to someone's weak argument is not appropriate.

I'm not sure. They could be right (just excluding +1), the +1 for the officials, I was told have not been released. But if those are the correct ones, then add around an average of 120k to them for the +1 and that would be around the correct rating with +1.
DS says that BB13 if officially averaging 1.80m at this point (but the four +1 ratings from the week gone are missing), so with them installed, I think BB13 is officially averaging around 1.82m including +1 compared to BB12s 1.62m.

Digital spy didnt print +1 as it was under 100K Only CSI passed the 100k mark on Channel 5 +1, with 180k (1%).
Last nights episode was amazing it deserves at;east 1.5.
Those "officials" on wiki must include plus 1 as they are to high not to. I dont think they are real though.

I don't think they do. I know for a fact that the Saturday rating got 1.54m in total (the day before the England vs Italy match), so it added half a million for that.
And yeah, it was under 100k, but normally Tues episodes get around 70-90k on +1 so if that is true, last night would have got between 1.43m-1.45m.

A 4% share equates to the same sort of audience share that the show has acclimatised to over the past year or so. The viewing figures should either be in the typical range, then, or simply a lot more people were watching television.
A poor share does not equate to poor figures. It just means that there were more people watching television at the time if the ratings were any good.

FINALLY IN: These include +1:
BB Live Eviction Show 1: 1.61m
The Bachelor: 755k
BB The Interview: 1.31m
The 9pm show is the highest eviction rating, as well as the 2ND HIGHEST BB rating of the series (bar launch). Only one non launch rating was over, at 1.65m.
The Interview looks low at 1.31m, but being on at 11pm and finished 5 mins early. But the share for that was at 9%, making it the highest in the series (bar launch).
Big Brother Live on 5* had 256k (1.2%) between 10.00-10.30pm

Dissapointed with LF Figures :(
I think that's a great figure for the live feed. Let's not forget the normal series has a smaller audience than the Celebrity edition (and that near 1m-rating was down the the twist).
To put it in to perspective:
The first episode of Celebrity Big Brother live feed in January had 352,000 viewers. The series average for the main shows was 2.31million. Therefore, roughly 15% of the main show audience tuned in for the first live feed show.
The first episode of Big Brother 2012 live feed had 256,000 viewers, and the series average for the main show is so far approximately 1.4million, so roughly 18% of the main show audience tuned in for live feed.
