View Full Version : Jimmy Savile: New Report Claims He Performed Sex Acts On Dead Bodies
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-20781149
The former BBC Radio One producer, Ted Beston, has been arrested as part of the investigation into allegations of sexual abuse against Jimmy Savile and others in the entertainment industry.
Mr Beston, 76, from Bromley in south east London, was detained at 06.30 GMT by detectives from Operation Yewtree.
He is being questioned on suspicion of sexual offences at a police station.
Mr Beston worked with the late presenter on his Radio One shows, including Savile's Travels.
In that show Savile travelled across the UK talking to members of the public.
Savile affectionately referred to Mr Beston on air as "Uncle Ted".
During the day there have been signs of police activity at Mr Beston's house - three men in suits were seen to leave the premises in two cars carrying a large black holdall and three sealed black bin liners.
The former producer is being investigated under the strand of the investigation termed "Savile and others" - meaning that the allegations are linked to Jimmy Savile.

Unless you can name them you are hoist by your own petard since you are tarring victims with the same brush as your so-called "bounty hunters" - do you know which are which or are you just idly speculating and casting unsunstantiated aspersions ?
If you have any evidence of "bounty hunters" (whoever they may be) as opposed to victims you should report them to the police ..... :pipe:
Blimey calm down Omah. Sorry to have caused you such offence. I'm sure that every single "victim" is 100% honest . There is that better.

FORMER BBC radio producer Ted Beston has “vehemently denied” historic allegations put to him by detectives investigating the Jimmy Savile sex abuse scandal.
Mr Beston, 76, was arrested by Operation Yewtree detectives yesterday morning on suspicion of sexual offences, then later bailed until February.
In a statement released through his lawyers today, the former Radio 1 producer said he was shocked by the allegations.
The statement added: “What emerged in October 2012 was a side of Savile that Mr Beston never knew.”
The statement, released today by Ewings and Co Solicitors, said: “Yesterday, Ted Beston, the former Radio 1 producer, was arrested by officers from Operation Yewtree. Mr Beston was not charged.
“Mr Beston vehemently denies the historic allegations put to him by the police.
“When the Savile story surfaced in October, Mr Beston made clear then that he was shocked by the allegations...
“For the time being, Mr Beston will be saying nothing further and we request that Mr Beston, who is now 76, be allowed to deal with these false claims without undue intrusion.”

A note written by Jimmy Savile declaring his love for Margaret Thatcher shows how he tried to enlist support for a hospital where he is known to have abused vulnerable people.
In what now appear to be chilling references, Savile refers in the letter to the excitement of his "girl patients" and "paralyzed (sic) lads" at Stoke Mandeville Hospital following a lunch with Thatcher in 1980.
The letter is among a series of previously secret files released to the National Archives in Kew, south west London.
Hand-written on "Jim's 'Daily Dozen' paper", it bears the address Flat 84, 22 Park Crescent, W1.
It reads: "Dear Prime Minister. I waited a week before writing to thank you for my lunch invitation because I had such a superb time I didn't want to be too effusive.
"My girl patients pretended to be madly jealous + wanted to know what you wore + what you ate. All the paralyzed lads called me 'Sir James' all week. They all love you. Me too!!
"Jimmy Savile OBE xxx."
The previously unseen documents reveal Savile's regular communications with Mrs Thatcher and Number 10.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/revealed-jimmy-saviles-close-friendship-with-margaret-thatcher-8432351.html
Correspondence showing the depth of the friendship between Sir Jimmy Savile and former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher is unveiled today in a secret Downing Street file that has been heavily redacted by civil servants following revelations about sexual abuse by the late entertainer.
The 21-page dossier released under the 30-year rule by the National Archives shows Savile's extraordinary access to the highest echelons of British society, chronicling lunches and personal letters between Mrs Thatcher and the DJ in the 1980s.
They show how Savile curried favour in political circles and was granted invitations to Chequers with the then Prime Minister. It is claimed that Savile, who was knighted in 1990 for services to charity, became a regular visitor to Chequers, spending New Year's Eve with the Thatcher family on a number of occasions.
Notes on the file show that several pages were removed and material from other entries deleted for 40 years by officials using exemptions under the Freedom of Information Act on 11 October this year – a week after ITV broadcast a documentary revealing allegations of sexual assault against Savile. Sources told The Independent that the redactions were not relevant to Operation Yewtree, the ongoing Scotland Yard investigation into Savile's crimes which has since uncovered 450 potential victims. It is understood the redacted material, which includes a note of a telephone message and letter from Savile to Mrs Thatcher, has not been passed to police.
There are six notes throughout the dossier stating that material has been "deleted and closed" for a further 40 years under exemptions granted by the FOI act. It is understood that the exemptions used by officials in the Cabinet Office cover an obligation to withhold personal information and information given in confidence.

A spokesman for Suffolk Constabulary said: “Prior to the commencement of the Met investigation and to Jimmy Savile’s death, Suffolk Constabulary received no reports of abuse in relation to him.
“Since the start of the Met investigation (up to October 30), Suffolk Constabulary has received a total of three complaints/allegations in relation to Jimmy Savile, all of which were forwarded to Operation Yewtree.
“We would encourage anyone who wishes to raise concerns - no matter how historic - to come forward and contact the police.”

Now, however, the man whose ITV documentary triggered Savile’s fall from grace has said at least 10 more hospitals could be drawn into the scandal surrounding the late TV and radio star.
Mark Williams-Thomas said: “There are a significant number of other hospitals that will be named about which the police have received allegations. It’s likely to be 10 or more.”

Jim Davidson, who was arrested by police investigating the Jimmy Savile abuse scandal, "vigorously denies" the claims against him, the comedian's solicitor has said.
Allegations dating back 25 years have been made by two women, according to lawyer Henri Brandman.
Both men were later released on bail until March pending further inquiries.
Davidson had reportedly been detained at Heathrow Airport as he returned to the UK to be a contestant on Channel 5's Celebrity Big Brother.
Six men and a woman were seen leaving Davidson's house in Stockbridge, Hampshire, carrying boxes.
In a statement, Mr Brandman said: "Two women have made allegations in respect of Jim that date back approximately 25 years.
"The complainants were then in their mid 20s. Jim vigorously denies the allegations.
"He answered police questions as fully as he was able after this passage of time.
"He has not been charged with any offence. Neither he nor I will be making any further comment."

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/hunt-for-jimmy-saviles-missing-millions-1521182
AN investigation has been launched into claims Jimmy Savile hid millions of pounds because he feared being unmasked as a paedophile.
Lawyers acting for victims of the serial sex attacker are probing his finances in the hope of finding the money to pay compensation to people he abused.
They have written to the executors of the shamed DJ and Jim’ll Fix It star’s £4.3million will, demanding a detailed examination of his accounts.
They want an investigation into his two charitable trusts amid fears he siphoned off money which was later smuggled out of the country.
And they have vowed to go to police and The Charities Commission if they are not satisfied with the response.
The disgraced TV star is believed to have put cash into secret offshore bank accounts because he feared the truth about his sordid past being revealed.
He is also thought to have siphoned his cash-in-hand pay for personal appearances through shady business associates so it would not show up in paperwork.
Legal experts are convinced that Savile would have amassed a fortune many times more than the £4.3million revealed in his will. They estimate the Top of the Pops presenter may have hidden £20million or more worldwide and are determined to find it.
A top lawyer acting for victims of Savile, who died in October 2011, confirmed that they had written to NatWest Bank demanding an investigation.
Alan Collins, of Pannone Solicitors said: 'Savile was the Number One celebrity in this country for more than 20 years.
He had no dependents, was not a spendthrift and only had modest properties and very few luxuries, like his Rolls-Royce.
He left a £4.3million estate, which in the context of his lifestyle and other celebrities of such long-standing success is a modest amount.
I have written to lawyers acting for the executors of his will asking for an urgent forensic examination of his assets and accounts.
If he had left £20million or more then that would have been a more realistic and understandable amount. It just doesn’t add up.
Quite simply, we are asking, ‘what happened to Jimmy’s millions?'.

The late entertainer will be accused of assaulting the sick and dying as well as hundreds of other people including children, when the police publish its report into the scandal later this week, according to The Sunday Times.
The Metropolitan Police is expected to reveal more details of the allegations that have poured in against Savile since revelations were first made public on a television documentary last October.
A report will list all the establishments, including hospital, prisons and schools where Savile preyed on his victims.
But it is also expected to reveal for the first time that Savile attacked the patients and staff of a hospice he visited under the guise of carrying out charity work.
Savile’s association with Stoke Mandeville, Leeds General Infirmary and Broadmoor hospitals is well known, but it is thought he may have abused people in at least seven other institutions around the UK.
Some hospitals allowed him to wander the wards freely and in some cases he was even given keys allowing him to come and go as he pleased.
Peter Saunders, chief executive of the National Association for People Abused in Childhood, said: “This will really shake people. There seems to be no end to the places where that guy attacked people.”

Detectives investigating the Jimmy Savile sex abuse scandal will publish a joint report this week, Scotland Yard said today, as it emerged prosecutors had received a file on a man in his 60s.
Operation Yewtree officers handed a full file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) last month on a man from London arrested on December 10 on suspicion of sexual offences.
And the CPS confirmed it is now giving investigative advice on a total of four men arrested, including a man in his 60s from Surrey, a man in his 80s from Berkshire, a man in his 70s from London, and most recently a man in his 60s from Warwickshire.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2013/jan/10/jimmy-savile-abuse-inquiry-published
Jimmy Savile sexually assaulted children as young as 10 during nearly four decades of activity as a paedophile that took place in a string of institutions, including numerous hospitals, prisons and the BBC, the official inquiry by the Metropolitan police and the NSPCC will say on Friday.
The 30-page report, Giving Victims a Voice, will describe how the celebrity abused up to 500 children and young people, and may have raped more than 30.
Of the allegations made so far, police have gathered sufficient evidence to record 200 sexually related crimes by Savile across the country, committed using the power of his personality and fame to dupe a huge number of institutions – including, it is understood, at least one hospice – into giving him access to vulnerable people.
Detectives and child protection experts working on the inquiry into Savile hope the report will mark a line in the sand – a cultural shift in attitudes between today and 30 years ago, when a blind eye was turned to such activity with children and young people and victims were not listened to.
The report – which will be presented on Friday by the senior investigating officer, Detective Superintendent David Gray – will acknowledge that the police and other agencies, including the health service, have failed victims over decades.
It will identify how at least seven victims came forward to police while Savile was alive to complain that they had been sexually assaulted, but their claims were not linked and did not lead to him being prosecuted.
But other institutions, including the Department of Health, are also understood to have been identified as having potentially failed victims. A string of hospitals have been identified, in addition to the ones already highlighted – Stoke Mandeville, Broadmoor and the Leeds General Infirmary – as providing an environment for Savile to meet young victims.
Prison facilities and a hospice for children have also been named as premises where Savile abused young people.
:idc:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-20981611
Children as young as eight were abused by Jimmy Savile, a report detailing 50 years of allegations has revealed.
The joint Metropolitan Police and NSPCC report added Wheatfields Hospice in Leeds to the list of places where the former TV presenter abused children.
Some 214 crimes were recorded across 28 police force areas, including 34 of rape or penetration, the report said.
Police said it was a "compelling picture of widespread sexual abuse by a predatory sex offender".
The Department of Health said the report showed the need to "learn lessons from his crimes".
Revelations that Savile had sexually abused children prompted hundreds of other victims to come forward, including those who said they were attacked on BBC premises.
The former BBC presenter and Radio 1 DJ died aged 84 in October 2011, a year before the allegations emerged in an ITV documentary.
Historical abuse
Friday's report, Giving Victims a Voice, set out what Scotland Yard and the NSPCC have discovered about Savile since they launched the inquiry - Operation Yewtree - three months ago.
The 30-page document expanded on allegations that Savile was a prolific sex offender whose abuse took place at a number of institutions identified by victims.
Its findings included:
Savile offended at 13 hospitals, including Great Ormond Street in London, and one offence was recorded at Wheatfields Hospice in Leeds in 1977
His youngest victim was an eight-year-old boy, and the oldest was 47
The earliest allegation is from 1955 in Manchester and the last in 2009
Offences were carried out at the BBC between 1965 and 2006 - including at the last Top of the Pops recording
Peak offending took place between 1966 and 1976
Some 73% of victims were under 18
Most of those abused were aged 13 to 16
There is "no clear evidence" he operated in paedophile ring, although "whether he was part of an informal network" is still being investigated
The report also revealed 16 offences were committed at Leeds General Infirmary between 1965-1995 and 22 at Stoke Mandeville Hospital between 1965-88.
And one offence was committed at Broadmoor high-security psychiatric prison, St James Leeds Hospital, High Royds Psychiatric Hospital, Dewsbury Hospital, Wycombe General, Great Ormond Street in 1971, Ashworth Hospital, Exeter Hospital, Portsmouth Royal Hospital, St Catherine's Birkenhead, and Saxondale Mental Health.

Jimmy Savile's ability to commit hundreds of serious sexual offences inside public institutions, "hiding in plain sight" as Friday's police and NSPCC report on his crimes puts it, seems almost incredible.
And for his victims, it is indeed credibility which is the issue at the heart of this scandal.
A number have said the most important change that can come from the countless inquiries is that future victims of sexual abuse are believed.
The Crown Prosecution Service agrees the approach to credibility in sexual assault cases now has to change.
But there is a difference between being believed by a police officer and being credible in a court of law.
Some accusations of sexual abuse turn out to be untrue or mistaken, as the Lord McAlpine case recently demonstrated.
Police and prosecutors are hoping to draw a line under this affair by stressing their commitment to victims, but apologies and sympathetic statements do not alter the fact that courts are necessarily adversarial and unemotional places.
It would be a mistake to give the impression that the criminal justice system intends giving those making allegations of sexual abuse an easy ride.
That said, there are ways in which prosecutors might improve the way they treat sexual abuse allegations.
In her report for the Crown Prosecution Service, the QC Alison Levitt is critical of the way police and prosecutors dealt with four separate reports of abuse against Savile received by Surrey and Sussex police between 2007 and 2009.
"On the face of it, the allegations made were both serious and credible; the prosecutor should have recognised this and sought to 'build' a prosecution," she concludes.
Her report suggests the prosecutor should not have been so quick to dismiss the prospect of pursuing Savile just because complainants were reluctant to go to court.
"He appears to have treated the obstacles as fatal to the prospects of a prosecution taking place," she writes.
The director of public prosecutions, Keir Starmer, takes the point.
He said: "Police and prosecutors have approached complaints of sexual offences with a degree of caution which is not generally justified.
"Many people feel that for sexual offences, where it is 'one person's word against another's' and there is no or little scientific or other evidence to support the allegation, no prosecution should be brought."
"Unfortunately, this has often resulted in sexual offences being subjected to a different and, in reality, more rigorous test than that applied to other crimes," he added.
An important point with the allegations against Savile received by Surrey police was that there were more than one.
The victims told the Levitt inquiry that had they known they were not the only one to have complained, they would probably have been prepared to give evidence.
So should the detectives have revealed to the women there were others making similar allegations?
In the interests of justice and public safety should they have abandoned normal protocol?
On Friday, Surrey police said their decision not to share accounts between victims had been looked at.
The decision was initially taken "to ensure the integrity of evidence so there could be no suggestion of collusion, contamination or prompting between accounts".
This is a serious concern.
Courts have been known to throw out cases where multiple victims were alerted to the existence of others.
However, Surrey police said they recognised there was a balance to be struck between the risk of disclosure between victims and the confidence of those victims to give evidence in court.
None of this is easy.
If victims of an abuser contact each other seeking support and then compare notes, they may inadvertently make it impossible to stage a successful prosecution.
There is always a tension between the sympathy people naturally feel for victims of crime and a legal system that must remain dispassionate.

The reviled name of Jimmy Savile is being obliterated by hospital bosses trying to get rid of all traces of the paedophile’s disgusting presence.
Savile stalked the wards, corridors and children’s areas of world-renowned Stoke Mandeville for four decades, the Sunday People has revealed.
A sign pointing to a cafeteria called Jimmy’s has been crudely painted over but yesterday you could still make out its name on a sign beneath a daub of white.
A gilded plaque has been torn down from his VIP suite – with its chilling view of the playground.
All records of the pervert have been scratched off, pulled down, covered with stickers or painted.
A mural of the hospital’s proud history has had three panels blanked out.
The “Jimmy Savile suite” had a special front door with a gold letterbox and an inscribed plaque.
The suite was a comfortable apartment with leather sofas, chandeliers, bed and shower so he could stay overnight.
He was allowed to puff away on cigars there after smoking was banned throughout the hospital.
Insiders say the furniture is covered with sheets awaiting removal. On some hospital signs staff have applied white paint or correcting fluid over Savile’s name.
Corridor walls have blank patches where they once displayed framed photographs, posters and cuttings trumpeting Savile’s fund-raising exploits.

Jimmy Savile boasted about his links to senior police officers in Leeds while he was being investigated over sexual abuse allegations.
Savile also bragged that if he received letters accusing him of wrongdoing then his police contacts in the city would “get rid” of them for him.
The claims are detailed in a newly-published Surrey Police report on its own failed investigation into crimes allegedly committed by the TV and radio star in the 1970s at Duncroft children’s home in Staines and Stoke Mandeville Hospital.
Leeds-born Savile was interviewed under caution by two officers in his private room at Stoke Mandeville on October 1, 2009. According to the report, “he made various comments about knowing senior police officers from Leeds and seeing them socially”.
It goes on: “He stated that he gets a number of letters from people trying to blackmail him and he gives these to the police as a matter of course.”
The report adds: “Savile also stated that the officers read and destroyed the letters.
“If one of the letters concerned him then he could have it forensically examined as a ‘favour’ if he needed.”
The 44-page report also reveals that an officer from West Yorkshire Police – named only as ‘Inspector 5’ – contacted the Surrey force on Savile’s behalf.
He made the phone call in June 2009, five days after Surrey Police informed Savile about the allegations against him.
During the call Inspector 5 said he knew Savile personally, adding that his friend “gets many of these complaints”.
He also passed on a contact number for Savile, explaining that the star had lost a letter sent to him by the Surrey force.
Surrey Police’s investigation was dropped in late October 2009 due to a lack of evidence.

http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/uk-world-news/scots-police-hunt-jimmy-saviles-1536421
A BEAST who carried out a sex attack in Scotland with DJ Jimmy Savile is being hunted by police.
We can reveal officers in Fife received a complaint that relates to the predator TV star and a male accomplice. It is one of five reported attacks in Scotland linked to the disgraced BBC presenter. The four others are understood to have been “solo” offences.
Savile’s Scottish crimes were committed in the Strathclyde, Northern, Lothian & Borders, Grampian and Fife Police areas.
Assistant Chief Constable Graham Sinclair confirmed no allegations relate to Savile’s Highland holiday cottage in Glencoe.
Fife Police last night said they were unable to comment on the alleged offence.
It is understood the case only appeared on their radar after they were contacted by the Metropolitan Police team working on Operation Yewtree.
The inquiry is at an early stage and detectives are liaising with officers in London. The age and gender of the Fife victim, as well as the date of the offence, have not been disclosed. It was not clear if police know the identity of the accomplice or if the victim has only provided a description.
Mr Sinclair said: “To date, five disclosures have been made across the UK which relate to crimes which took place in Scotland.
“All of these are being investigated by Scottish police and liaison with the Crown will continue to ensure that these
investigations are properly managed and concluded.”
The Scottish allegations represent just over one per cent of the total allegations recorded by Yewtree.
The Met’s Giving Victims a Voice report, published on Friday, identified three strands of offences – those committed by Savile, by “Savile plus others” and those people who have reported unconnected sex crimes following the publicity.
The Fife case has been filed under “plus others”.
Last week, it emerged Savile – who died in October 2011 aged 84 – committed 214 crimes all over Britain in a reign of sexual terror spanning 54 years.
These included 34 rapes and 126 indecent assaults.

http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/news/latest-news/top-stories/who-has-bought-jimmy-savile-s-leeds-penthouse-1-5334028Speculation was today mounting that Jimmy Savile’s old home in Leeds has been sold.
The Yorkshire Evening Post reported in early December that a deal for the penthouse flat in Roundhay was nearing completion.
At that stage, the flat was still listed as a £325,000 property for sale on the website of Leeds-based Alan Cooke Estate Agents.
Now, however, it has been removed from the site.
A source close to negotiations over the property yesterday told the YEP: “Yes, I think it has been sold.”
Documents lodged with the Land Registry still show disgraced star Savile as the owner of the property.
The Land Registry said yesterday, though, that details of a change of ownership could still be going through its system.
A spokeswoman also said there was no time limit on how long a registered property’s buyer could wait before letting the organisation know about a change of ownership.
Alan Cooke Estate Agents declined to comment when approached by the YEP.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2226816/Jimmy-Savile-Shabby-Leeds-penthouse-paedophile-spent-final-days-sale.html#ixzz2IRVoyBwV
Estate agents say potential buyers can expect to spend £400,000 on redeveloping the apartment to rid it of the dated decor.
Pictures show that Savile was too tight to spend money updating the property, which he bought - along with its contents - in the late 1970s.
The gaudy pink and black kitchen was without an oven or hob, as Savile preferred to dine in restaurants rather than cook for himself.

A database of volunteers working at Oswestry Orthopaedic Hospital is to be set up in light of the Jimmy Savile sex scandal.
Bosses will also conduct a review of the use of mobile phones.
They want to ensure photographs are not taken within clinical areas.
The action was agreed after Oswestry Orthopaedic, which Savile visited in 1999 to launch the start of work on its spinal injuries unit, was among all hospitals in England contacted by NHS chief executive Sir David Nicholson.
In his letter Sir David described the Savile allegations as ‘appalling’ and said it was ‘deeply disturbing to think that abuses of this nature may have occurred in NHS organisations.
Sir David told hospitals: “I would ask that you take the opportunity to review with your boards and working as necessary with local agencies, your own arrangements and practices relating to vulnerable people, particularly in relation to safeguarding, access to patients including that afforded to volunteers or celebrities, and listening to and acting on patient concerns.”
The hospital’s trust board meeting yesterday was told a review had been carried out and was told staff and League of Friends volunteers underwent CRIB checks.
The board was told the hospital’s human resources team will establish a central database of volunteers by April and a review will be made of current mobile phone policy to ensure there is a ‘strong statement’ regarding not using mobile phones to take photographs in clinical areas.

A veteran entertainer is to be arrested by police investigating the sex attack scandal.
The comedian, who is a household name in his 70s, will be held in the next few days over allegations of sexual abuse.
In a separate development, a second entertainer who was quizzed under caution in November on similar allegations, is also set to be formally arrested.
The man, in his 80s, is believed to have written to one of his alleged victims to express regret.
A source close to Scotland Yard’s Operation Yewtree inquiry said: “The latest big name to be arrested will be a real shocker to a lot of people. He’s not somebody you would have associated with this sort of thing. The other celebrity will be even more of a surprise.”

A SCOTS hotel has erased Jimmy Savile from a book celebrating their history.
Glasgow’s Grand Central Hotel: Glasgow’s Most Loved Hotel was published last January to mark the landmark’s 130th anniversary.
Its colourful pages fondly recalled a visit to the hotel at Glasgow Central station by the now-disgraced Jim’ll Fix It presenter.
After Savile’s sordid past as a serial sexual predator was revealed towards the end of last year, Grand Central general manager Laurie Nichol and her team decided to remove any mention of him.
They have now issued a revised edition of the coffee table book, which also chronicles visits from stars such as Danny Kaye, Mae West, Laurel and Hardy, Gene Kelly, The Beatles, Cliff Richard and Laurence Olivier.
Nichol said: “Due to the success of the Glasgow Grand Central’s beautiful history book, we have made some new copies.
“Out of respect to the families affected by the Jimmy Savile scandal, we decided it was appropriate to remove the editorial about him from the book.”

Hess recalled being on a cruise holiday, ‘when this man just came up to us with a bowl of custard. He said, “Would you like some of this?” and he put his finger in the custard. A former police inspector has been accused of acting on behalf of Jimmy Savile by contacting officers before an interview.
The officer was from the West Yorkshire force, which has referred him to the police watchdog, the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
He is accused of contacting Surrey Police before they questioned Savile over alleged sexual offences in 2009.
The IPCC said: "The referral follows a direction from the IPCC to record and refer the conduct of the former inspector, identified in a Surrey Police report as 'Inspector 5'.
The watchdog also said it has asked seven forces including West Yorkshire to review whether there are more conduct issues that should be referred to the watchdog over the Savile investigation.
The other six forces are Surrey, Sussex, Thames Valley, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and the Metropolitan police.
The IPCC said: "They have been asked to re-look at all information relating to the late Jimmy Savile. The IPCC has asked that each force provides the relevant documents and, if they decide not to record or refer any matters, the rationale for not doing so."
This follows a review by the IPCC of reports by Scotland Yard and the NSPCC, the Crown Prosecution Service and Surrey Police as well as information given by forces in West Yorkshire and Sussex.
The watchdog also looked at details given by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary, which is preparing a report for the Home Secretary on what the police knew about Savile.
Prosecutors and police have already been criticised for missing the chance to bring the disgraced entertainer to court over the allegations before he died in 2011.
Last month, police revealed the "vast" extent of alleged sexual abuse by Savile - saying his crimes spanning more than 50 years were probably unprecedented in the UK.
The late TV presenter's suspected victims included 28 children aged under 10, including 10 boys aged as young as eight.
A further 63 were girls aged between 13 and 16 and nearly three-quarters of his victims were under 18.
Some 214 criminal offences have been recorded across 28 police forces and 34 rapes have been reported.

http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/379048/Jimmy-Savile-s-ice-cream-accomplice-to-be-stripped-of-honours
King of the Cornets Peter Jaconelli is believed to have been one of Savile’s key accomplices as children were allegedly targeted by high-profile figures in Scarborough during the 1970s and 80s.
The former Scarborough Mayor was made an honorary alderman of the Borough before he died in 1999 aged 73, but the Daily Express revealed how two women had named Jaconelli as part of a paedophile gang in the resort as revelations about former Radio One DJ Savile emerged last year.
Scarborough Council bosses are meeting on Friday to strip the dead broadcaster of his freedom of the borough but they are also set to raise the issue of Jaconelli’s honours being revoked after Scarborough Council Chief Executive Jim Dillon was last week contacted by a man claiming to have been abused by the legendary ice cream figure.
The matter is to be raised by Scarborough councillor Geoffrey Evans (Lib Dem) who claims he too was propositioned by Jaconelli as a young boy.
Jaconelli, who boasted a 50-inch waist and weighed 21-stone, was famed throughout the north during the 1970s, but died in May 1999 and is buried under a gaudy memorial in Woodlands Cemetery, the same cemetery where Savile now lies in a paupers grave.
In his email the man said: “I am a former resident of Scarborough, now living in Australia.
“I was a member of his Ippon Judo Club and also worked for him (Jaconelli) at his ice cream parlours as a boy.
“I can confirm from personal experience that all of the allegations published about this man are entirely correct and he was a predatory paedophile, who preyed on local children.
“His activities were well known by locals and I do not think for one minute that the authorities were not aware of this which I consider yet another blight that needs attention.
“I was therefore aghast to see his photograph advertising Whitby and Scarborough and to read that he was made an honorary Alderman, when in fact he was a child abuser that did a lot of damage to the reputation of both places and to local children, which is on-going.
“I note that Councillor Tom Fox has moved that Jimmy Savile is stripped of his title of Honorary Freeman of the Borough following the revelations about him and I support his action on this.
“I am a proud Scarborian and would formally request that Peter Jaconelli is also stripped of his title of Alderman on the same basis, to remove this stain from the history of the Borough.
Councillor Evans said: "I know it’s true. I was propositioned by Jaconelli as well. It was obvious what he wanted and I only went in for a bloody ice cream. It was 40 years ago when I was 14.
“There are many parallels between the cases of Savile and Jaconelli. Just like Savile he was never prosecuted.
“I know there are Jaconelli victims out there. He was at it for many, many years. We are talking a 30 year reign.”
The councillor is now planning to formally raise his concerns to the council meeting on Friday and says the allegations have been hushed up for decades despite constant rumours.
He added: “In the fifties, sixties and seventies if you were in any kind of position you could do no wrong.”
Scarborough Council confirmed the email had been received, but declined to comment further.
Jaconelli's surviving relative, nephew Dennis Jaconelli, said the allegations were news to him.
"It is 40 years ago," he added. "We don't know anything about it."
North Yorkshire Police refused to comment.

We now have a complete summary of how you get from Jimmy Savile to Lord McAlpine, please do make sure you read the Scallywag section and that which follows especially.
This is all compiled from news articles that have come out since the scandal broke, and those that were already out there.
Jimmy Savile
- ITV airs investigation revealing victims of abuse by Jimmy Savile, former DJ and television presenter at the BBC plus notable charity worker
- Police start investigation and hear from hundreds of victims over 40 years
- BBC revealed to have pulled an earlier investigation which made similar claims
- Videos of his BBC shows have Gary Glittler as a guest boasting of the girls they have
- A video shows Savile trying to molest one on air during Top Of The Pops, she went to floor managers about it but they laughed it off
- Savile revealed to have abused patients through his charity work at Stoke Mandeville hospital, the youngest being 8
- Savile had been given keys to Broadmoor high-security psychiatric hospital with unrestricted access
- Savile boasted in his autobiography that he slept with an underage girl but nothing came of it because he would 'take down half the station with him'
- Savile held a 'Friday Club' with members of the police both serving and retired every week for 20 years
- Savile was basically 'untouchable'
- Freddie Starr, comedian, arrested over similar allegations
- Several close friends of Savile said to have fled the country
- ITV preparing second programme concerning Savile's early years
- Dave Lee Travis, also a former DJ at the BBC and Top Of The Pops presenter, arrested
- Others still being investigated
North Wales child abuse scandal (1974-1990)
The fact Savile was untouchable, and this all went on in plain sight for decades, reopened questions about the abuse in care homes which Savile visited regularly in North Wales.
- Between 1974 and 1990, up to 650 children from 40 children's homes such as Bryn Estyn were sexually, physically and emotionally abused
- Only 9 people were charged, 7 convicted, and no one outside the care homes
- Persistent allegations were that the homes were visited by prominent people in the public eye and politicians at unexplained times, and also to collect boys and abuse them in local hotels and residences in London
- Jillings in his inquiry regretted he did not have the mandate to investigate these allegations further
- Jillings was also concerned there was a widespread paedophile ring in North Wales and the North West, of which there had been warnings 4 years earlier, and went to the Chief Constable about it
- The Jillings report was instead however ordered not to be published as not being in the public interest, having been warned by insurers of the cost of compensation to all the victims
- Parts of the unpublished Jillings report were leaked by a whistleblower which led to the Waterhouse inquiry
- The Waterhouse inquiry forbid any naming or investigation of those not already convicted
- Up to 60 names were removed from one victim's statement alone
- At least 16 victims of the abuse are now dead, 3 from suicide
Gateshead child abuse (1966-1973) / Peter Howarth / North Wales
- Peter Howarth taught at Gateshead's Axell Park, a Home Office run school for troubled youngers where he abused children
- No charges or action was taken and he was then appointed deputy head at Bryn Estyn children's home where he continued to abuse the children in its care
- If action had been taken then at least one of those involved in the abuse in North Wales could have been stopped before it happened
- A victim of the abuse in North Wales said children were regularly abused for the 'entertainment' of Savile at the home in the presence of Peter Howarth
- Children were taken to Savile in Howarth's flat
- When the social worker blew the whistle on the abuse after police and council refused to take any action, Howarth was one of only 7 who were convicted.
- The Crown Prosecution Service decided not to charge 6 members of the police, including a Superintendent, saying it was 'not in the public interest to prosecute these police officers'
- All 6 members of the police took early retirement
- No charges were made against Savile or anyone outside the care homes
- Nothing about Savile, or anyone else, came out at all
Islington child abuse scandal (1970's-1980's)
This also happened in Islington where each of the 24 care homes was found to be abusing children.
- The abuse spanned the 1970's and 1980's, it is still unclear the number of victims and no one was charged
- It wasn't revealed until 1992 when a social worker blew the whistle after the police and council refused to take any action
- Although there were then as many as 13 inquiries, proving the abuse took place, none of them looked at the perpetrators
- The original whistleblower said when the story broke 'everyone just left the council'
- Some are still running councils elsewhere
- Perpetrators escaped conviction and went on to abuse elsewhere, some had links to those at other care homes
- One was arrested in Thailand in 2006 for abusing as many as 300 children
The head of Islington council at the time, Margaret Hodge, was later appointed Minister For Children in Tony Blair's government.
Jersey child abuse scandal (1960's-1980's)
- Jersey police have so far recorded complaints from at least 100 former child residents of Haut de la Garenne
- Only 6 were passed on for prosecution citing reasons that the complaints were not substantive enough
- 3 were dropped
- Of the 3 remaining one was a former child resident, the others carers, and all were convicted
- One of the perpetrators suspected in the Islington scandal was said to be involved with Haut de la Garenne
- Again, no one outside the care homes was charged
- There has been widespread criticism of the official investigations into it
- An American journalist, Leah McGrath Goodman, has been banned from the UK after saying she was investigating the abuse claims
Rochdale child abuse scandal (2007-2012)
- 9 Asian men were jailed for grooming young white girls for sex over 5 years
- Children and their parents went repeatedly to police and social services for help but were ignored
- Victims were said to be 'making their own choices', some were as young as 12
- A report in Rotherham found agencies there were aware of similar abuse but did nothing, and no one was prosecuted
Lord McAlpine
Lord McAlpine was named by one of the victims in North Wales, leading to a statement denying it from Lord McAlpine and the resignation of the BBC's Director General. This followed a warning from Cameron on ITV about a witch hunt. However there is more to the story.
- Lord McAlpine's cousin, Jimmie McAlpine, was identified by one of the victims in North Wales but had died before the Waterhouse inquiry
- Boys were regularly taken to do work at 2 homes of the McAlpine family according to a local councillor
- Photographic evidence handed into police by one of the victims was ordered to be destroyed
- Police said to have had extensive reasons to link Jimmie McAlpine to the abuse in the care homes, no action was taken
- All names were removed from the Waterhouse report
- The inquiry itself was halted on one occasion when a particular name came up
- Steve Messham, who named Lord McAlpine and confirmed as a genuine victim by the social worker who blew the whistle about North Wales, attacked in widely criticised article by the Sunday Mail which referred to him as a 'weirdo'
- Integrity and motives of Mail journalist are questioned
- Media focus shifts completely to the 'crisis' at the BBC
Sir Peter Morrison
Sir Peter Morrison, Parliamentary Private Secretary to the then Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, was identified on Channel 4 news by eye witness as one of the perpetrators in North Wales who was not revealed at the time nor charged.
- Edwina Currie's diaries published in 2002 had already named him as a 'noted pedarest' with a 'liking for young boys' and expressed concern at him being appointed PPS to Thatcher for fear of the press revealing it
- Currie was also responsible for appointing Savile to his role at Broadmoor
- Margaret Thatcher was said to either not be aware or 'taking a gamble'
- Norman Tebbit, Chairman of the Conservative party, was aware of it
- Teresa Gorman MP said his agent had been offered money to keep quiet about his activities
Sir Cyril Smith
- Sir Cyril Smith, Liberal Democrat MP for Rochdale, named in House Of Commons as a repeated abuser of young boys and urged victims to come forward
- He was investigated by Lancashire police in the 1960's but no action was taken
- Persistent allegations had been made over the years but still no action was taken
- MP said there had been a long-standing culture in Rochdale of 'hiding the truth'
The Church Of England and the Royal Family
- Peter Ball, former Church Of England Bishop, arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting boys as young as 12
- A second unnamed man, a retired Anglican priest has also been arrested
- The arrest came as part of the investigation into Savile, on suspicion of 8 new offences against boys and young men in the 1980's and 1990's
- Ball had already been cautioned in 1993 for an act of 'gross indecency' against a teenage monk, after which he resigned
- Ball, like Savile, was a close friend of Prince Charles
- After he resigned the clergy Prince Charles gave him a grace and favour home, Manor Lodge, in the Somerset village of Aller
- The property is owned by the Duchy of Cornwall, Prince Charles' private estate
- Despite the caution Ball continued to work in churches till 2010
- The Queen's former press secretary, Dickie Arbiter, said Savile's behaviour when invited to St. James' Palace was 'cause for concern'
- Arbiter said he could never understand why Savile was granted such access to the Royal Family
Scallywag Magazine
Scallywag was a satirical and investigative magazine, similar to Private Eye, published in the 1990's.
- Issue 22, published in 1994, contained a story 'Lord McAlpine and the Paedophile Ring' alleging much of what has now come out of a widespread paedophile ring and also a connection to those in Government
- It also alleged there was a wider problem involving the use of the care homes for the production and sale of child pornography and also drugs and prostitution. Involving the use of the children in care as rent boys for wealthy clients and those in power
- Following the recent statement from Lord McAlpine, in which he sued the BBC and which shifted the focus of the media completely, the article surfaced in its entirety online. It can be read here:

Part 2: http://i.imgur.com/mXWi6.jpg
Part 3: http://i.imgur.com/sEUuX.jpg
Part 4: http://i.imgur.com/r6OXa.jpg
- At the time NONE of those named in the article, including Lord McAlpine, sued
- The article ended by saying they would welcome being sued as they would defend the story as no one was there to defend the children
- The Prime Minister John Major however did sue Scallywag and its distributors for the claim he was having an affair with Claire Latimer and won. Forcing Scallywag out of production
- Claire Latimer later claimed Major used her as a 'decoy'
- Major was later confirmed to have been having an affair at the time with Edwina Currie
- Following the shut-down of the printed magazine Scallywag tried to continue online
- Julian Lewis MP sued their service provider and got them to shut it down while he was standing for election, using a rarely known electoral law about someone standing against him trying to influence voting
- Simon Regan, co-founder of Scallywag, was standing against him at the time claiming he was a liar and not fit for office
- Angus Wilson, the other co-founder of Scallywag, was killed in 1994 in a car crash in Cyprus aged 31
- You can read Simon Regan's appeal to find his killer, posted on Usenet in 1997, here:

Current inquiries
There are currently at least 9 separate inquiries investigating the BBC, police, social services, and the previous inquiries. Demands are being made by the opposition and those involved with exposing the previous cases of abuse for a single overarching public inquiry into all the allegations and confirmed cases of child abuse.
No attempt at all has been made at any point to try and get a complete picture of the child abuse that was happening throughout the country, because of the limited mandates of each inquiry, nor identify and investigate all the perpetrators of it and bring them to justice.
The unpublished Jillings report said victims were sacrificed to protect those in professional positions at every stage.
Peers in the House Of Lords have demanded the inquiry into the Waterhouse inquiry be dropped or amended. The opposition have repeated their demand for a wider public inquiry but the Government has said it will not be changing its position.

In the section titled fate of some of the victims in Update #2, R4 and R10 were directly linked. They were brothers.
R4 died in the arson attack in Brighton in 1992, verdict unlawful killing. R10 survived and tried to get them to investigate further and reopen the case. They didn't. All these details can be got from the Brighton article:

In January 1995 R10 gave evidence in the trial of John Allen, head of the children's home company in North Wales. Allen is Mr X in the Scallywag article from 1994, and he was convicted. The person referred to as Paul in the Scallywag article also lived in Brighton in a flat paid for by Allen. Paul was said to have identified Lord McAlpine from 4 photos and made a sworn affidavit to this effect. Scallywag said they had that sworn affidavit, and Paul went to the police about it with the photos. You can read about that here:

R10 was awarded substantial compensation by the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board, but on February 1st 1995 he was found dead in his flat from an apparent heroin overdose. Shortly after his death police raided his flat and seized a video tape, alleged like the photos Messham handed to the police to be of the child pornography that Scallywag said was being produced in the care homes. Through a company owned by Allen's niece in Copenhagen. You can read about that here:

Julian Lewis MP got the contents of Scallywag's office seized over an alleged rent dispute. When it was resolved and the contents were returned all the documents relating to North Wales were missing.
Angus Wilson co-founder of Scallywag died in 1994, in a car crash in Cyprus, aged 31. Simon Regan co-founder of Scallywag and who stood against Lewis in an an election saying he was unfit for office died in 2000, aged 58.

From the end of the Scallywag article:
Quote:
Should Lord McAlpine choose to consult his solicitors about the story we have printed, we would welcome the opportunity of dragging his name through the courts. Should he choose not to take action, then let his silence incriminate him.
We shall defend our story assiduously, for no one was there to defend the children continually abused by their rich and powerful overseers.

The Scallywag article was published in 1994 ahead of the trial in case of a miscarriage of justice, and to expose that it went far beyond Allen.

DETECTIVES investigating Jimmy Savile’s sordid past will this week probe claims that he was involved in a Satanic ritual where a secret film of his debauched activities is said to exist.
The former BBC presenter went to weird events at a place known locally as The Chamber, which had a ceremonial whipping post in the centre of the room.
The room was decorated with an occult style pentagram and goats heads.
The building housing The Chamber still exists in Whitby, North Yorkshire, but has since been redecorated and the whipping post removed.
Officers working on Scotland Yard’s Operation Yewtree investigation will travel to the coastal town in the coming days to interview a local resident who has been amassing a file of evidence about the strange goings on there decades ago.
The man, who declined to be named, said: “There is a substantial amount of information to show Savile was invited to Satanic rituals in Whitby on a number of occasions. Once someone made a recording of what unfolded and that film is still said to be in existence in DVD form.
"From what I understand, this was not so much serious Satanic ritual, but celebrities and local dignitaries dancing around naked with a Satanic theme going on.”

Grinning and giving a thumbs-up, Britain’s most senior Catholic cleric poses with his friend, disgraced paedophile Jimmy Savile.
The snap, taken six years ago, emerged last night after Cardinal Keith O’Brien quit amid allegations of “inappropriate acts” towards fellow priests.
The photo was taken in Edinburgh in 2007 as fund-raiser Savile and the cardinal unveiled a £375,000 vehicle for the disabled.
The pair first met in the 70s, when O’Brien was a priest in Kilsyth, North Lanarkshire – and worked with a friend of Savile’s mum.
Another priest who was at Kilsyth at the time as the Cardinal has been suspended following claims of abuse against two young victims.

A new website has been set up by the independent team investigating the behaviour of shamed TV star Jimmy Savile at Leeds hospitals.
NHS bosses launched the inquiry into the activities of Savile in the city’s hospitals, which he had a long association with.
Following hundreds of allegations of sexual abuse by Savile a nationwide investigation looking into his involvement with the NHS was started by the Department of Health.
The inquiry relating to Leeds hospitals is being held by Professor Sue Proctor, former chief nurse for Yorkshire and the Humber.
Retired police officer Det Supt Ray Galloway, who led the hunt for missing York chef Claudia Lawrence, is assisting the investigation and interviewing witnesses.
Last year it was revealed that six people had contacted hospital bosses about incidents involving the former presenter.
Now a new website has been created by the independent investigation team.
It says their inquiries will continue in private until September, before the team’s final report is published as requested by Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt at a later date.
Linda Pollard, chairman of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, told a meeting of hospital directors: “I am having regular conversations with the panel that has been set up and it is moving at a pace now.”
They are still looking for anyone with information about Jimmy Savile’s behaviour within the Leeds NHS.

Police forces across the UK failed to “join the dots” and missed a number of opportunities to apprehend Jimmy Savile, a highly critical report says.
Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary said forces had failed to understand the depth of the BBC DJ and TV presenter's sexual offending.
The report reveals the earliest known complaint had been in Cheshire in 1963.
The HMIC report said failures to share intelligence meant a prolific offender could go undetected today.
The report, which was commissioned by Home Secretary Theresa May, was an attempt to find out how much police knew about Savile before he was exposed as a sex offender in 2012.
The former presenter of the BBC's Top Of The Pops and Jim'll Fix It, who also worked as a Radio 1 DJ and received a knighthood in 1990, died aged 84 in October 2011 - a year before the first allegations were broadcast in an ITV documentary.
Mrs May said the HMIC report had brought into "sharp focus police failings that allowed Savile to act with impunity over five decades".
The police watchdog said that it had found five reports made to the police about Savile prior to his death and two pieces of intelligence, all of which had been mishandled in different ways.
In contrast, police have received about 450 allegations spanning several decades in the wake of last year’s initial revelations. Detectives have assessed 214 of them as being definite crimes, including 32 of rape.
A joint police and NSPCC report released in January outlined offences over 50 years at a number of venues, including BBC premises, schools and hospitals.
The allegations uncovered by HMIC include information passed to the Metropolitan Police’s paedophile unit and a separate anonymous letter which details some of Savile’s methods.
The earliest known missed opportunity to investigate Savile was in 1963 when a male victim reported to Cheshire police that he had been raped by Savile, according to the report. An officer told the victim to “forget about it”.
The man was one of eight people who tried to report Savile but failed to get the police forces involved to do anything. Other victims had contacted Merseyside Police, West Yorkshire Police, the Met and the Royal Ulster Constabulary.
In 1964 intelligence about Savile was entered into a ledger used by the Met’s paedophile unit. It said the DJ had visited an address used by girls who had absconded from Duncroft Approved School in Surrey. There is no record of any investigation.
The Met received further detailed, but anonymous, allegations about Savile’s behaviour in a letter in 1998. In 2003, the Met also compiled a crime report relating to a complaint about a 1970s incident.
“In the light of what is now known, the 1998 MPS anonymous letter makes distressing reading,” said the HMIC report. “Its detail provided the police with an opportunity to pursue enquiries that might have confirmed its veracity.”
Ten years later, officers with Sussex and Surrey Police realised they were both investigating Savile after receiving separate information.
In 2007 Surrey Police compiled a report after complaints from three victims and the following year a Sussex report focused on a complaint from one victim.
The HMIC report said: “Both officers appear to have alerted each other to the reluctance of their respective victims and both decided that neither was able to support the other. As a result, opportunities for mutual support were lost.”
The watchdog said that police had systems and processes to enable forces to “join the dots” and to spot patterns, but these had been either used incorrectly or not at all.

http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/386514/Kathy-Kirby-seduced-by-vile-predator-Jimmy-Savile
Kathy Kirby, who had a string of hits in the Sixties and became the highest-paid female singer of her generation, was an unknown teenager when she had her grisly encounter with the serial paedophile.
In his book, No Secret Anymore: The Real Kathy Kirby, showbusiness historian Mark Willerton, one of the singer’s closest friends, tells how Savile, then 29, targeted her behind the locked door of a dressing-room at Ilford Palais.
Kathy Kirby was an unknown teenager when she had her grisly encounter with the serial paedophile.
He said: “Kathy told me that Savile had been chasing her for some time, and he had also been chasing her younger sister Pat. But Kathy had, by then, met bandleader Bert Ambrose, with whom she wanted to lose her virginity. Ambrose had told her to go away and get some experience, and so the next time Savile tried, when he visited her in her dressing room at the Palais, she gave in. Or rather, she said that Savile hemmed her in and then it happened.”
Her curvy figure drew comparisons with Marilyn Monroe and her lovers included Sir Bruce Forsyth.
Willerton’s biography reveals that during her declining years as a recluse living in a flat in Kensington, west London, she was the subject of an investigation when two of her friends were suspected of stealing her money.
In the event, Kathy refused to press charges against the two men.
She died in a retirement home in Twickenham, west London, in 2011 at 72.

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/03/25/jimmy-savile-scandal-ex-bbc-producer-wildred-death_n_2951499.html?utm_hp_ref=uk
A former BBC producer will not face charges after being arrested by detectives investigating the Jimmy Savile abuse scandal.
At the time of his arrest last November, Wilfred De'ath told reporters that it was a case of mistaken identity and denied any wrongdoing.
Today, he told the BBC: "I feel very bitter - I'm totally innocent."
He is one of 11 people arrested so far under Operation Yewtree, a national probe prompted by allegations that emerged against Savile.
Alison Saunders from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said today that there was not enough evidence to charge the suspect.
She said: "In this case the complainant made a withdrawal statement, which maintained that the allegations were true, but in which she said that she had made a statement to lend support to any other complainants who might come forward in relation to the same suspect.
"The complainant said that as she would be the only complainant to give evidence if the matter went to trial, she did not want to pursue it. She confirmed to the police that she came to this conclusion of her own free will, and was aware that she, like all complainants of sexual offences, was entitled to anonymity.
"We looked at the possibilities of bringing a prosecution without the evidence of this complainant, but have concluded that there would be insufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction.
"The suspect has maintained his innocence throughout.
"The conclusion was that, having given careful consideration to all of the evidence gathered in this matter including the detail of the withdrawal statement and the views of the investigating police officer, it would not be in the interests of justice to compel the complainant to attend court to give evidence. Without her evidence there is insufficient evidence to proceed."
Mr De'ath, who is in his 70s, was arrested in Cambridgeshire on 11 November.
This arrest seems to have been totally unnecessary ..... :suspect:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-21936350
A former BBC producer who was accused of indecently assaulting a girl says the inquiry linked to the Jimmy Savile abuse scandal "has gone too far".
The Met Police has yet to respond.
In an interview with BBC Radio 4's Today programme, Mr De'Ath, who is in his 70s, said his "pretty horrifying" arrest four-and-a-half months ago had involved seven police officers.
"I do realise they were only doing their job, but it seems to me they were overzealous," he said.
"They failed miserably in the case of Jimmy Savile. They failed to get him when they could have got him. And it seems to me they've gone too far the other way now and are arresting people on rather spurious allegations."
Eleven people have been arrested under Operation Yewtree and he is the first suspect that the Crown Prosecution Service has made a decision on.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said on Monday there was not enough evidence to charge Mr De'Ath after the complainant had withdrawn her statement.
Mr De'Ath , who has always maintained his innocence, said he had been questioned about an allegation that he had indecently assaulted a 14-year-old girl in the mid-1960s after inviting her to go to a press showing of a film.
He said that he had met the girl briefly at a party, but had never gone to the cinema with her or assaulted her.
Mr De'Ath was asked on Today about a previous claim that Savile had spent the night in a hotel with a girl who was probably 10-years-old.
Mr De'Ath said it had "never occurred " to him to go to the police.
"I did say to [Savile] 'I think you're living dangerously'," he said.
"I was pretty shocked and disgusted. Also, I was physically frightened of Savile. He had been a boxer and a wrestler and he was in with some very rough people.
"I would never have dreamed of grassing him up."
He said he "slightly regrets" not doing anything at the time but in the corridors of the BBC it was "common talk that he liked young girls".
It was a different culture in the 1950s and 1960s, he said, and "sexual matters were taken much more lightly".
"We were all womanisers in those days. But as far as I know womanising is not a criminal offence," he added.
"We were not paedophiles. * You propositioned 100 women on the chance that two or three would say 'yes'."
Mr De'Ath said he was "full of self-loathing" because he had not acted over Savile but "you have to live with yourself".
* A date with De'Ath ..... :eek:
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/jimmy-savile-scarborough-flat-bought-1787149
Jimmy Savile’s luxury seaside flat has been sold to one of the country’s leading campaigners against child abuse.
Sir Rodney Walker, who was a guiding light of the NSPCC’s Full Stop campaign, has bought the Scarborough apartment to use as a holiday home for his family.
The millionaire snooker bigwig now plans to strip Savile’s second home, which the shamed TV legend had turned into a shrine to his dead mother.
New owner Sir Rodney, 69, said he had been hoping to buy the property last summer as he needs more room for his grandchildren.
But the deal was delayed after the scandal emerged and shocked the nation.
Former World Snooker and Leicester City Chairman Sir Rodney and his wife Anne from Wakefield, West Yorkshire, already own a property on the floor below Savile’s No. 9.
They have been coming to Scarborough for 35 years, enjoying trips with sons Alexander and Timothy and now want their grandchildren to carry on the tradition.
Builders carrying out the work had claimed they could still smell the ghostly smoke from Savile’s trademark cigars in the bedrooms and woodwork.
The flat was originally put on the market for £170,000 but is thought to have fetched around £200,000.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2299621/Jimmy-Savile-inquiry-Eleven-men-arrested-detectives--just-THREE-charged-1million-operation-criticised-celebrity-witch-hunt.html#ixzz2OnCgrErC
Only three of the 11 men arrested over suspected sex offences in the aftermath of the Jimmy Savile scandal are likely to be charged, it emerged last night.
Detectives believe there will be insufficient evidence to prosecute the majority of the suspects quizzed under Operation Yewtree.
And speculation was mounting last night that Freddie Starr would soon be told that he, too, will not be charged over claims he attempted to grope a 14-year-old in Savile’s BBC changing room in 1974.
The police operation – which is thought to have cost £1million and has 30 dedicated detectives – has already been criticised by some as a ‘celebrity witch-hunt’.
Earlier this month, one of Britain’s top prosecution lawyers was accused of hyping up the investigation as if it were a ‘box office event’ when he told the public to expect a dramatic new wave of celebrity arrests.
If, as seems likely, only a handful of men are charged, there are sure to be uncomfortable questions for the police over the handling of the probe.
Yard chiefs insist all arrests by detectives on Yewtree have been ‘necessary and proportionate’. But Mr De’Ath, who spent four months on bail before being cleared, accused officers of being ‘over-zealous’.
He said the police had failed ‘lamentably’ to stop Savile’s reign of terror while he was still alive – so were now going ‘too far the other way’ in pursuing ‘spurious’ claims against others.
It DOES seem that the whole operation has been over-ambitious, incredibly expensive and blatantly unsuccessful ..... :idc:

Prominent Australian entertainer arrested in relation to Jimmy Savile child sex investigation
A PROMINENT Australian entertainer has been arrested by Scotland Yard detectives in London on suspicion of sexual offences.
The high-profile 82-year-old Australian man from Berkshire in south east England was interviewed for several hours by police before being released on bail about 11.30pm local time.
It is understood his lawyer was present.
The entertainer was first interviewed “under caution” by British police on November 29 following a search of his home, about an hour west of London. It is understood they have since been trying to identify potential victims.
The man’s London-based agent could not be contacted yesterday.
His manager and older brother also refused to talk about the arrest.
Asked if he had anything to say on his younger brother's behalf, the man said: "No I haven't, thank you.''
Late last year a friend of the Australian married father said his mate was “almost suicidal” over his being interviewed by police for alleged sexual offences which he described as being a slur and based only on guilt by association since he knew Savile, who has since been branded one of Britain’s worst serial child sexual abusers with up to 450 victims as young as nine years old over a five decade period.
Yesterday the media in the UK which has followed the case of the Australian closely were also not naming the star but were camped outside his riverfront home seeking a comment.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2013/apr/13/jimmy-savile-estate-natwest-milking
NatWest has been accused of "robbing" the victims of Jimmy Savile after the bank spent more than £1m earmarked as compensation for individuals sexually abused by the disgraced television presenter.
The bank, trustee of Savile's estate, put on hold the distribution of its assets last October in the face of impending compensation claims from individuals sexually abused by the late DJ. The move was initially welcomed by lawyers representing victims on the assumption that it would ensure that the estate could provide compensation.
The estate was worth £4.3m, but during the subsequent six months its value has fallen to £3m, a significant reduction that has infuriated lawyers acting for the victims of one of Britain's most prolific sex offenders.
A legal source with knowledge of the Savile estate claimed that the reason for the huge drop is because of the costs NatWest is incurring in administrating Savile's estate, including its lawyers' fees. The expenditure has triggered accusations that money destined for the victims is being depleted at an alarming rate
Pannone solicitors, representing 40 alleged victims, raised their misgivings over NatWest's handling of the Savile estate when issuing a writ at the high court in February. Alan Collins, specialist child abuse solicitor at Pannone, said he was concerned to learn of reports that the estate had been eroded.
Collins said: "We are trying to solve this situation with NatWest and are endeavouring to provide just and proper compensation. We are concerned that large sums of money that could have helped victims rebuild their lives are no longer there."
Although £70,000 of the estate was spent on Savile's funeral in November 2011 at Leeds cathedral, the rest of the money appears to have been spent by the bank. A legal source involved with the estate said: "If NatWest and its lawyers are milking the estate, it's offensive. The estate is being stripped out. It's as if they've thought they can make money out of this, as if they've viewed the whole thing as a gravy train.

Jimmy Savile could have sexually abused three times the number of victims who have come forward so far, the former head of the investigation into his crimes has reportedly said.
Operation Yewtree, which is looking into allegations of sex crimes against the former DJ and presenter and a host of other celebrities, has recorded 450 complaints against him.
But a national newspaper reported that ex-Metropolitan Police Commander Peter Spindler, who led Yewtree until earlier this year, told an NSPCC conference that as well as those who came forward there were “probably double, treble that who haven’t”.
He then told the paper: “My best guess is that there are many other victims who won’t have come forward because they don’t want to talk about it.
“They’ve dealt with it, they’ve put it in the past.
“So even with the 450 that have come forward there must be many more. That’s not just true for Savile, it’s true for other offenders as well.”
Mr Spindler stepped down from Operation Yewtree earlier this month to become an Assistant Inspector of Constabulary.
At this ever-increasing toll of abuse, the appalling Savile will go down in history as a sexual "Vlad the Impaler" .....

JIMMY Savile’s holiday cottage in the Scottish Highlands is to be auctioned off by trustees of the disgraced television presenter’s estate to help fund compensation to hundreds of the victims he sexually abused.
The cottage in Glencoe became a target for vandals who daubed graffiti such as “Jimmy The Beast” on its walls after it emerged that the Jim’ll Fix It star was prolific sex abuser.
There were calls for the property, which is visible from the main public road, to be demolished. However others in the community argued Allt-Na-Reigh cottage should be sold off as a family home or preserved as a mountain rescue centre or museum.

Last night mountaineer, writer and broadcaster Cameron McNeish said he was pleased the cottage, which had played an important part in the history of Scottish mountaineering, was to be saved.

A report by West Yorkshire Police into its relationship with Jimmy Savile is due to be published on Friday.
The findings are the culmination of a review that began in January.
Part of the report will cover regular visits by on-duty officers to Savile's penthouse apartment in Roundhay Park, Leeds.
Allegations of abuse by Savile emerged after his death. Police said the report would be passed to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
In a statement, the force said: "West Yorkshire Police will tomorrow publish the findings of an extensive review into the late Jimmy Savile, his crimes and the force's relationship with him.
"As well as publication of the report, a copy will be passed to the Independent Police Complaints Commission, whom matters were referred to some weeks ago."
'Breakfast club'
The West Yorkshire Police review comes after a report by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary, which highlighted failings by forces across Britain.
In February, West Yorkshire Police said officers who used to regularly visit Savile's home in Leeds while on duty were being investigated.
It said some officers were part of the disgraced broadcaster's "Friday morning breakfast club" and enquiries would "establish who attended and what the nature of the relationship was".

Home affairs correspondent, BBC News
How can it be that West Yorkshire police have no record of any allegations against Jimmy Savile while he was alive but have since received dozens of complaints of historical abuse?
Why was the 1998 "anonymous letter" claiming the presenter was a paedophile not entered on the force's database and acted upon? And how deeply did Savile's friendships with police officers really go?
Then there are the mysterious links to the Yorkshire Ripper inquiry: the presenter's details were on four "index cards". Perhaps a detective suspected he might be involved.
There's no evidence for this - but it adds to an uneasy sense that the review hasn't established the full story of Jimmy Savile's relationships with the force.

Savile abused 4
5 year olds
Jimmy Savile sexually assaulted four children when they were aged just five — three more than police had previously claimed, it can be revealed.
He abused the children between 1962 and 1976 in West Yorkshire, where he had a home in Leeds.
The disclosure takes his offending to a new level, it has now been claimed, but it also raises questions over the conduct of West Yorkshire Police.
The force only admitted Savile had four five-year-old victims after repeated questions from this newspaper.
In a 59-page report on its dealings with the serial paedophile published last week it suggested there was one victim of that age.
A spokesman for the force said the report might have been “slightly misleading”, while one MP said it appeared the force’s account of events was “unravelling”.

Nick Gargan, the chief constable of Avon and Somerset, is examining Assistant Chief Constable Ingrid Lee’s business relationship with serving and retired officers of West Yorkshire Police.
Mrs Lee commissioned and oversaw the force’s internal inquiry into its dealings with Savile, whose main home was in Leeds and who had a close association with the local police.
She was placed under investigation yesterday after The Sunday Telegraph found she was a director of a property firm alongside four current or former officers from the force.
Mr Gargan will lead an investigation into whether Mrs Lee, 47, followed guidelines which say business dealings by serving officers must be fully declared and cannot present any appearance of allowing an officer to be unduly influenced.
Mrs Lee, who lives in Leeds, has not been suspended and there is no suggestion of wrongdoing.
She is one of 14 directors of Oree Activite. Four others are former or serving police officers. She was previously a director of a second company which had three other officers as directors.
The Sunday Telegraph asked whether any of the officers Mrs Lee is in business with were members of the Friday Morning Club or had dealings with Savile. We also asked whether Mrs Lee declared her business interest to superiors or to the team carrying out the investigation.
The force declined to comment on the questions. It also said Mrs Lee had no statement to make and that she had not been suspended, saying that would be a matter for Mr Gargan to decide.

Jimmy Savile's offending took place in locations including hospitals, public toilets, a cemetery and nightclubs, allegations collated by police show.
Across West Yorkshire, 79 offences have been recorded against 71 people, the figures have revealed.
Thirty-five attacks by the broadcaster in hospitals involved complainants ranging in age from five to 45.
The West Yorkshire Police figures show Savile targeted 18 victims at private addresses in Leeds and Bradford.
According to the West Yorkshire Police figures, in the 1960s Savile struck 25 times in the region, with eight attacks at the LGI and two at St James's Hospital. A further nine offences are reported to have happened in nightclubs.
In the following decade the presenter continued to prey on people at the LGI, according to complaints made to police, with 11 alleged offences committed there.
No attacks were reported at St James' Hospital in the 1970s, although 11 offences were committed on what police described as private property during that decade and eight in other public places.
Attacks in other hospitals in West Yorkshire have also been reported to police, with one at Dewsbury Hospital in the 1960s, and two separate attacks in High Royds Hospital at Menston, near Ilkley, which treated psychiatric patients, in the 1970s and 1980s.
The police figures show a total of 25 offences were committed against 24 victims in what the force described as public locations.
Ten of these were in nightclubs, with other attacks detailed in a cemetery, a public toilet, a railway station, a park, a street and two in hotels.
Savile's alleged attacks on private property include 19 offences against 18 victims, with the youngest aged five and the oldest an 18 year old.
Seventeen of those offences were said to have happened in Leeds, one in Bradford and one at an undisclosed location.

A man arrested by police over sex offences is former BBC Radio 1 DJ Chris Denning, the BBC understands.
The 72-year-old was questioned on Monday as part of the Operation Yewtree police inquiry set up after the Jimmy Savile scandal.
Mr Denning faces allegations unrelated to Savile.
He is the 13th person to have been held as part of Scotland Yard's investigation. He has been bailed until July.
The former DJ was one of the original Radio 1 team when the station was launched in 1967, having been the first announcer heard on BBC2 when the channel took to the air in 1964.
He also worked as a music producer for the Beatles, helped launch the careers of the Bay City Rollers and Gary Glitter and ran his own music and video production business.

NHS bosses should brace themselves for a new storm of criticism when 'damning' evidence about Jimmy Savile's hospital sex attacks is revealed, lawyers said today.
Liz Dux, of Slater & Gordon, added that more people in the NHS than previously thought knew about what was happening and took no action.
She said one victim had been assaulted while lying on a hospital trolley going to have an x-ray, and another was passing in a wheelchair when she was attacked.
Dux told The Sunday Times: 'The evidence against the NHS is as bad [as the BBC] if not worse. I think the degree of knowledge was greater - clearly there was knowledge at the BBC but it was less concentrated. Here we have people seeing him [commit offences] and having direct knowledge.
'The NHS abuses are horrific. There were quite a few rapes on NHS premises. The evidence from the two main hospitals is absolutely damning.'
There are three separate inquiries under way into Savile's crimes, focusing on Stoke Mandeville, Leeds General and Broadmoor hospitals.
It is not just the nature of the offences that has shocked lawyers but also the response - or lack of it - by the staff. One of the victims Dux is representing was a young girl at the time of Savile's attack.
'She was raped and then told a nurse about the attack. The nurse said: "I mustn't say anything or I'll get into trouble",' Dux said.
'There are stories of Savile being on top of people in the wards and nurses just saying "Oh, get out Jimmy, you shouldn't be in here".'
In an incident at Leeds General, where Savile worked as a volunteer porter, one victim was attacked in the porter's office. When the attack was over, the door was opened from outside by someone other than Savile, as if that person knew what had been happening.
Dux said her clients at Leeds appeared to believe that there were other people assisting him and complicit in his crimes.
In another incident at Leeds Dux said a girl was ignored when she complained to staff that a porter had hurt her and pointed to her groin.
The Stoke Mandeville inquiry is due to finish taking evidence soon, while the inquiry at Leeds is progressing.
Dr Bill Kirkup, the lead investigator into Savile's offending at Broadmoor, has now launched an appeal for more witnesses to come forward.
In all, Savile is believed to have committed offences at 14 health institutions - 13 hospitals and a hospice.
The extent of others' complicity, and therefore guilt, will, inevitably, never be fully established but I hope that at least some of them are named and shamed.
