Meh, was pretty unimpressed. I loved this season to begin with, but I like every episode less and less. I want more Laveau, Queenie, LaLaurie, Misty, and Myrtle. Don't really care about any of the other characters. Kyle is a waste of space, Zoe is dull, Madison should have stayed dead since she's done nothing since she's been back, and Cordelia has no charisma whatsoever. I miss Asylum :( it was the perfect show, hopefully next year they can return to that caliber. Coven seems like they're making it up as they go along, and not doing a very good job of it.

I really enjoyed the new episode, I think this series is on an upswing now.

Myrtle continues to be my favourite character, she's an endlessly fierce bitch. I thought Hank's backstory was interesting although I think they should have gone into it a bit earlier since it turned him into a sympathetic plot device rather than a realised character.

The stuff with the Christian woman was meh, I think she's just another plot device, I reckon Nan will be the Supreme and her powers will reveal themselves when she takes revenge on the mother.

The ending was pretty well done, I'm glad that this boring 'war' is finally over since the threat of the Witch Hunters proved more interesting in one episode then the Witches vs Voodoo storyline did in nine.

like I get they wanted a powerful scene but that was just stupid. If they really wanted to show her softening up, it should have taken a lot more actual interactions with Queenie and the Voodoos and black people in general. There's actually an undeniable racist undertone to this season itself and this episode in particular that revealed the producers'/writers'/society's prejudices in that EVERY black character bar Laveau was slain without so much as knowing their names aside from Queenie and Laveau and maybe some random hairdresser who did nothing. And OMG at Queenie and Laveau (Queenie especially bc cmon) not being in the titles is just ridiculous.

I know it's called "Coven" but I would have loved to have explored the Voodoo side maybe um... a little bit? Instead, the black characters were used as nameless pawns to ultimately develop the storylines of white people. Laveau better get some depth and backstory in the next few episodes (which I believe she will) or else this show is just really racist and that sucks because Asylum was all about tearing down prejudices and even helped warm my homophobic mother's crusty heart :(

I found the ending very emotional, not so much due to Delhpine's reaction but because there was a hard-hitting realisation that segregation happened in the world we live in, and it equality is still not at the point it should regarding society.

I totally understand why people would find it ridiculous; watching a decapitated head cry was too much for me too handle in itself.

Myrtle Snow and Misty Day are the queens of this season thus far. I love Cordelia and Misty's relationship. :love:

American shows hardly ever end at the right time! They either drag on for two or three seasons too long or cancel with the story unfinished (US TV is the worst for this, shows get one to three seasons and then end on a cliffhanger with no closure). Or they lose their way after the first season or two and you can understand why they die, because the storylines stop being concise. As soon as viewing figures drop below a certain level, the axe falls. Doesn't matter if its half way through a storyline or not. Likewise, if the viewing figures are strong, season after season is tacked on long after the writers have completed their original vision.

American Horror Story is immune from this, at least, with each season being a self-contained story. It will never end "unfinished", if it goes on for two more years or ten. It really just depends on how long the writers can keep fresh ideas going. The horror genre has plenty of scope but eventually they will run out of "classic" horror settings to explore... Then I guess it depends on how imaginative they are, or else they'll end up treading old ground.

"American Horror Story-Coven" will return with episode 10, "The Magical Delights of Stevie Nicks," on January 08, 2014. In episode 9, "Head," Marie accepted Fiona's alliance offer after Henry caused a bloody mayhem at her salon.

According to the detailed synopsis of the new episode, the truce between Fiona and Marie will not be a smooth one, as Marie's dark master, Papa Legba, will demand his annual due. Fiona will forgive Marie, but won't be extending the same forgiveness to her daughter.

Fiona will be mad at Cordelia for marrying Hank, the witch hunter, and turning against her own mother because of him. They will know the identity of the man behind the attack on witches -- Henry's father, Harrison. A spell will be cast to make Harrison's organisation lose money and thus weaken the adversary.

The episode 10 of "American Horror Story-Coven" will also deal with the outing of Misty as the next Supreme. Fiona will try to bribe Misty to accept being the next Supreme. Fiona will invite Stevie Nicks, which is her "ruse to get the true Supreme to reveal herself because she needs to stay alive, according to Ryan Murphy, co-creator of "American Horror Story-Coven."

Except Madison, all the girls will be happy to see Stevie Nicks. Madison will be upset that Misty is going to become the next Supreme. In her jealous rage, Madison is likely to go to extreme lengths.

Suffering from terminal cancer, Fiona will become even more ill. She will ask Marie to share with her the secret of her external youth. Marie shares that secret but at a terrible price. Also, the Axeman returns in this episode. The synopsis says: "as Fiona brings the Axeman a proposition and learns a startling truth about herself."

In "Head," Joan killed her son, Luke, after he questioned her why she killed his father. Nan is going to confront Joan about Luke's death as her powers grow.

Also, "Marie and Fiona make a terrible deal - a deal involving a most unexpected betrayal," according to the synopsis.

About whether Queenie is alive or dead, Murphy said to Entertainment Weekly: "Everyone wants to know that and I'm not saying but we do talk about what happens to her body in episode 10 so keep watching."

Early review of tonight's episode

Okay, I’m a sucker for Stevie Nicks. I’ve always loved Fleetwood Mac and the use of their music along with the incorporation into Misty’s storyline has been one of my favorite aspects of season 3 so far. I feel like no matter how this episode played out I would have liked it better than the last few for the sole fact that Stevie performs - TWICE! - and interacts awesomely with Lily Rabe’s underused revivalist Misty Day. In addition to that though, much of this episode is exactly what I’ve missed about most of the current Horror Story: Coven installment. There’s a cohesive storyline followed throughout, great moments for every actor featured (though quite a few of our regular players aren’t seen tonight), and genuine moments of shock and uneasiness. Rewatching Asylum over the break illuminated even more what I felt this season has been missing; genuine terror, and characters we can root for and sympathize with in the face of uncertainty. Still, there have been moments of greatness this season, and tonight proves that these witches won’t be going down without a fight. There are a few seriously shocking deaths, and the addition of a new character that I wish had been introduced weeks earlier. Read on for more about “The Magical Delights of Stevie Nicks”.

The episode opens just moments after “Head” concluded. We see Fiona welcoming Marie Laveau into the Academy, both women eager to work out their differences and unite to destroy the witch hunters who have set them in their sights. It’s great to be getting more scenes between Lange and Bassett as the two share a fantastic combative chemistry. Sparks really fly between Fiona and her daughter Cordelia, though, as the two discover that Hank had married into the family for the purpose of destroying them. Fiona views this as an unimaginable betrayal and evidence of naivety and stupidity on her daughters part, and she refuses Cordelia’s help in cripping the witch hunters. The result is a fantastic scene between Cordelia and her aunt Myrtle, in turns both hilariously wacky (Myrtle) and frustratingly emotional, as Cordelia begins to question her powers and place in the coven.


Bassett’s Marie Laveau finally gets some real backstory tonight as we meet the chilling Papa Legba. He visits Laveau when it is time for her yearly offering, a price she has been paying since she sold her soul to Legba for immortality centuries earlier. While the sacrifice we see the voodoo priestess preparing to make today is certainly bad enough (hint: it involves a trip to the hospital nursery) we learn through flashback that years before she paid a much greater price which hit very close to home. Bassett is here given the chance to elevate Laveau from over-the-top awesome villainess to a real grounded character, beyond the legend that exists. It’s frustrating that we don’t see or even hear anything about what happened to Queenie or where Lalaurie is at, but I’ll take what I can get.

Indeed, with just a few episodes left I’ve accepted that the things I don’t love about this season probably will not be changing. Papa Legba, for instance, could have been truly terrifying, but the writers seem intent to make every character in this universe a source of comic relief. Legba is still creepy and totally a welcome introduction, in fact I wish he had been brought on earlier to bring a bit of edge to the season, but I fear tonight may be his only appearance. Also in the department of things-I-just-need-to-get-past, there is indeed a continuation of the Nan / Luke saga as we see Nan discover that Luke (THE LOVE OF HER LIFE, YOU GUYS!!!) is dead. Nan continues to annoy the hell of of me, as does the entire storyline, but at least it takes a few interesting and, I’ll admit, totally unexpected turns tonight. I’m definitely excited to read all of your reactions later. Any guesses?

Overall the episode is a great step forward as the season heads toward its conclusion. There are only three weeks to go after this and with tonights episode I’ve certainly gotten a renewed interest in the resolution . Will this end up being my favorite season of American Horror Story? Definitely not. But there’s more than enough to enjoy and the performances alone elevate it above just about anything else on TV. The lighter more comedic / b-movie tone that this season has taken is pleasing many viewers who were turned off by last years extremely dark Asylum arc (my personal favorite). I suppose that's the beauty of an anthology series; each season can play to different strengths and alternately please many crowds. - Will we ever get answers as to why each witch has the powers they do? Or at the very least what the hell the purpose of Zoe’s puss-of-death is?
- Where the heck is Kyle and what’s going on with him? His story virtually disappeared so much so that I honestly don’t even remember where we ended up with him. It was a story of magic gone wrong, then a Frankenstein thing, then a love triangle, then… well… who knows…
- Will the Axeman serve any real purpose? He appears again very briefly tonight and while I loved his intro episode, he’s totally fizzled out since

Stuff You’ll Love:
- Misty Day meeting Stevie Nicks is just plain awesome. The scene is hilarious and actually doesn’t feel forced or cheesy. The White Witch plays a relatively important part in the story, and her final scene / song is haunting. She also teaches Misty how to properly twirl!
- Papa Legba. While I wish they had gone straight-up terror with this character, he is still more than creepy enough to make an impact. His character provides a number of twists tonight.
- Madison is a super bitch. I hate the character but love the performance. It’s awesomely fun to watch and I’ve been hoping that she’d fully embrace her darker side for a while now, especially post-resurrection. Seeing Misty get all the attention of being the supposed next supreme does not sit well with Miss Montgomery.
- The shocks. I said it above, tonight is full of some of the best genuine twists and turns this season has offered so far. It’s easily my favorite episode since 3x03, “The Replacements”.

That's why she's the best guess because she's the only character who hasn't been put into the running. She'll end up getting her powers at the last possible moment and she'll use them to kill Fiona and become the next Supreme.

Loved last night's episode :love: I think the first four or so episodes were great, the middle five weren't that great, but after the midseason break it's returned to being amazing. And omg I'm a genius, I have figured out Jessica's role in season 4 with my expert sleuthing - on EW or something they said 1950 is the year Shirley Temple retired, and a few months back Ryan Murphy said Jessica always wanted to play a Marlene Dietrich character. So she'll be a retired German actress either working for or against the US ~I'm brilliant~

It was a decent episode, I thought going back an undoing LaLaurie's whole arc was a bad idea as it just made everything else that came before about her character rather pointless.

Kyle and Zoe come back in the next episode... unfortunately.

They should have just left Kyle and Zoe's ending with what we saw in the latest episode. It felt like an 'ending' to their story tbh. They runaway and we can assume they live happily together.

Queenie and Delphine stories should have ended ages ago too. Queenie should have been assumed as dead, would have made a suitable ending - and Delphine's head should have been burnt episodes ago.

While I'm enjoying this season I'm getting a little fed up of characters constantly returning. With only two episodes left I hope the endings for all of the characters aren't rushed. This year there is a very big cast so I really hope this does not ruin the final two episodes. I trust Murphy though so hopefully it will pan out well.

I have my bets on the supreme being Cordelia or Misty - the others seem to be trying to throw is off the scent I think. I'm hoping it's Cordelia, not just down to a finale between mother and daughter, but more-so because we've seen Cordelia go through hell, maybe she discovers her real power and uses it? I really like Sarah anyway so I hope her ending is a nice one.

Regarding Emma.. IF she comes back for season 4 (most likely if Evan returns) I'd like to see her in a different role. Not such a bitchy character. Although I do wonder if she is capable of acting anything other than a bitch. I'm sure she is. But we'll see. I haven't minded Evan as Kyle this season, he's in a quieter role and most of them do that with AHS anyway. Hopefully he will be more prominent in the next series!

The season has been a tad bit wooly for me, which is a shame as it showed so much promise at the beginning.

With that being said, it has had its great moments and some of the characters are the best Ryan Murphy has ever created. It's just a shame that there hasn't been any real context to most of them within the general plot. Fiona has basically been the show so far, and that sucks in my opinion.

I'm hoping it picks up and has a 'Lana sticking her middle finger up in the taxi' kind of moment near the end.

The thing with this season is we don't really know where it's going. At with Asylum we knew the ultimate goal was to close it down, but with Coven there is nothing there to let us know the sort of route the show is going and I think it needs that.
