I was expecting 1.2m so no shock for me.
Probably a mixture of people not liking the new housemates (although that's their own faults for believing Chinese whispers), not pleased with newbies choosing who goes/no real public vote (fair enough) and others thinking the usual show the night after is just a repeat (which for some reason people still think after 15 series).
I think tonight will be more telling if people are interested or not. I guess in the worst case we'll just have to hope figures stay steady from now on.

Share for the 1.20m was 7.6%. With +1, it would be 8%+ and a rating of around 1.26m I expect.
Jake.

Meh.. still, a good share and it did okay for 10PM

They had once chance on monday to draw in new veiwers or them that had left during the world cup so it looks like none left during the world cup its just a housemate issue.
Meh, it could get better if they have it on at 9 don't see why they don't do that

Apparently according to https://sites.google.com/site/tvratingsuk/ukratings2014/tuesday-15-july-love-your-garden-and-fill-your-house-for-free-fall-csi-holby-city-rise
BB- 1.29m
Utopia- 499k
So 1.3 effectively then altogether. It's not that bad - tbh as long as it continues to completely decimate C4 then I'm happy :D
*mazedsalv**
16-07-2014, 10:59 AM
Yep, the highest Tues was the first Tues with 1.30m, so it was 10k off that.

I also think its similar with the saturday shows.. people are likely to assume it'll all be about the previous day, as they imagine saturday shows are for friday night evictions..
It's on par with what I expected. The fact that it's up against Utopia, and did 800K better is something to be appreciative of! At least there was a slandering of its closest rival!

1.20m excl +1 for BB. Oh dear, that is poor. Probably close to 1.3m with it, but still.
So, I think people hated the twist then, as I expected.
Nah like I said people wouldn't have tuned in because they tend not to when there been an eviction the day before.
A lot of footage was repeated last night aswell.
I guessed 1.2 but it will probs go to 1.3/1.4 tonight.
Dropping 400k overnight is shocking though.

Well it was 1.3m tonight anyway (1.29m) :p but fair point. I personally don't think it will grow though.

Surely you cant add a +1 share though? A share is for that time slot its not like adding the extra viewers.
It got 7.6% which is a good share, you cant add the +1 to it to bump it up.

Defeating Utopia isn't a hard thing I don't know why people on here think its some major show when its a total flop.
Its never been a big show so, anything on Channel 5 would probably beat it.
I think it'll be around 1.4 inc +1 tonight. What's it against?

Huh? I don't know what the +1 share was. All I know is that it got 1.29m incl +1 and the share was 7.6% without the +1, but I would predict the share was around 8% for the 1.29m.

What I mean is a share is the amount of people watching at that one time so the 10pm share is totally separate to the share at 11pm on +1 and cannot be added to the 10pm share to make it appear bigger like we can with ratings.

Standard ITV and BBC news at 10pm, with American Pie starting at 10:40pm on ITV.
BBC2- Some Jack Whitehall programme.
CH4- New series, The Mimic. This averaged around 800k last year, just slightly below Utopia, so it will probably average around the same as Utopia.
ITV2- TOWIE
Pretty standard Wednesday.

Shares are usually given including +1 though, they don't add them together, there's another way they work it out. eg. yesterdays share of 9.9% was for the 10pm and 11pm airing, they do some dividing ****e to work it out.
I don't know what the share overall was. I read it was 8.2% from a source.

I just give my honest opinion if they are **** I say they are **** no backing it up or giving ridiculous excuses to defend them like a lot of other people do.
Its not me massively defending a poor ratings but I acknowledge there is a reason that they dropped and its due to the dumbasses thinking its a repeat plus what was effectively another launch and an eviction, a drop off allways occurs after both.
However it dropping 400k overnight is shocking but I expected it. I do think there will be a slight rise tonight.
Its refreshing to see salv calling as he sees it as I know how positive/passionate he usually is about the ratings lol.

1.26m excl +1. 60k up on the night before as it has 1.20m excl +1 on Tuesday. So I would make that around 1.32m-1.35m including +1.
That's good for 10PM, should be on at 9 tbh

One thing that is hopefully positive is that because of Monday's 1.6 rating, most are aware of the twist on Friday so hopefully we should be looking at a better eviction rating than we've had so far.

I don't think we will be seeing any major climb now.
Since the world cup has ended we have had a slight climb of 100K for the normal highlights and I think that's where it will stay.
Armageddon was just weird it gained 600k then lost 400k.

Brilliant rating for Thursday, hopefully tonight should do really well. I haven't watched last nights as I was on a plane, was it a good or bad highlight show?
Sad little fact - BB was the 4th highest rated game show of all yesterday, behind Masterchef, Pointless and The Chase.
Jake.
18-07-2014, 12:15 PM
That's fantastic... the twist seems to be working
I don't know if this is out of the ordinary, but BB comfortably beat Mock The Week on BBC2 which got 1.30m at 10. 3rd in it's slot again. It's been a pretty good week. Hopefully tonight does well.

Just to update Thursday nights episode received 1.58 million viewers with +1.
Seriously these ratings are making me dizzy lol one minute they are scraping a million the night they are jumping by hundreds of thousands!
I wonder how the eviction will rate seeing as for some reason evictions this year have weirdly been most of the poorest rated.

It's a fair rating in my opinion.. it certainly deserved more.. I mean.. BOOBS, TWO EVICTIONS! I suspect many watched but turned off after hearing of Kimberley's disappearance.. likely to be from the super fans.. plus BB needs more daytime advertisement.. if those boobs were advertised in the highlights section of the show it'd certainly pull a small handful more to the show.
I suspect that through word of mouth, tonights Saturday show will do fairly better than the previous ones
I also think people tire of friday night evictions more than they used to.. either that or they're busy or for whatever reason, it does strike me as odd that friday has a little bump down in ratings

I doubt that's the reason why.
I don't know why the evictions are rating so low this year when the highlight shows are showing there is still an audience of over 1.5 million. People are just dipping in and out this year and last officials didn't add to much so its not as if they're watching online....Maybe their tired from work or on their period lol.
Last night was a big one it should have and deserved to get more.
no +1 yet but I imagine the rating will most likely jump (just like Girls Aloud) to 1.4 million.
Dunno about the plus 1 but it came 4th in it's slot - beating channel 4 though so that's always good :joker:

EDIT: Big Brother: 1.19 (6.5%) 1.3 with +1 (110,000)
So it was behind Channel 4 who got 1.28 and 1.6 with +1 (320,000) for 8 out of 10 twats does cuntdown.
Another site however is reporting it as 1.2 and I trust them over DS.
Bots done really well 820k (6.5%) that's what it was getting nightly I think during BB14.

Lord that rating is pathetic for the most action packed eviction in recent years.
Jamesy
19-07-2014, 06:40 PM
BOTS did very well! Shame the main show did not. But a rating on par with most other nights so can't complain too much. The evictions don't seem to be the 'big' event they once were with civilian BB this series.

Saturdays are always weak days. This week has been the best rated week of the series.
Monday- 1.61m
Tuesday- 1.29m
Wednesday- 1.35m
Thursday- 1.58m (according to TVratingsuk)
Friday- 1.30m
Compare that to the week before from Monday-Friday of 1.40m, 1.10m, 1.15m, 1.42m and 1.25m.
Last Sat got 950k with +1, last night would be the 2nd Sat to surpass 1m this series.

How ironic that it was destroyed by Channel 4's airing of Rising of the plant of the apes which got 3.25 million !!!!!
Seems all the promotion on Channel 5 sparked interest and Channel 4 took advantage of that very well they have a far better scheduling team over Channel 5.
Didn't even enter Channel 5's heads lol.
Major sacking needed.
They really messed up the planet of the apes thing.
Not bad for last night. Came 4th in it's slot, beating BBC2 and not at all far behind ITV.
Did we ever find out what that episode of bit on the psych that aired at midnight got?
Jamesy
20-07-2014, 04:39 PM
C5 should have shown Planet of the Apes prior to BB. Silly they had the whole promo thing going on all week and another channel takes the opportunity to show one of the older films... stupid C5!

But I thought this was your favourite series?
You've been constantly saying how good it is and defending ratings for over a month plus making a point of calling people negative for daring to voice an opinion that isn't up productions arse.
Maybe you're seeing what i have all been seeing 6 weeks now.

1.51m incl +1. Highest rated Sunday of the series. And the 3rd highest rating of the series behind last Monday and Thursday (bar launches).
These ratings are all over the place. It's a great rating last night and so far the "fall out" of the week is helping as both Sat and last night got the best Sat and Sun ratings of the series.
The poor ratings come from Friday, I have no idea why they are now the 2nd lowest rated day with Saturday.
That's a great rating - but I wish the ratings would make up their mind whether they want to be **** or good :joker:
*mazedsalv**
21-07-2014, 10:38 AM
Oh wow
Yes, quite odd. Everything except ITV did well last night. ITV was sub 2m between 8-10pm. Everything on BBC1 was above 4m for hours, Ch4 was between 1.7-2.5m between 8pm-10pm and TOWIE got 824k which I am sure is around 200k higher than it's been getting this year.
Monty Python got the best Gold ratings ever.

This week is a sure thing to be the highest rated week.
1.61m, 1.29m, 1.35m, 1.58m, 1.30m (why, on a Friday!), 1.08m and 1.51m.
Officials coming out later and should pull in better than average figures as that week was the first week where it grew (bar the Sunday which was up against the final of the world cup). Really looking forward to next week's officials though, on average we are looking at around 1.8m-1.9m for the week just gone.

Very good!
Good rating! The Friday rating probably came from high school, college and university students all out celebrating the summer break, that's why it wasn't very good.

1.33 on a Saturday excluding +1 is really good especially when it was the World Cup semi finals.
I'll reserve judgment on the rest till the +1's come out will that be later or will they go missing again?
Also though wasn't that Armageddon week where the Monday got 1.6? Officially it only got 1.62 so officials added 20k? lol.
Surely thats wrong even with the +1 missing..

The World Cup final was on the Sunday, the day before Armageddon started. The Monday listed here got 1.40m. The Armageddon week ratings will be released next Monday.
And they will be found, DMN on DS has been posting them to me the last 2 weeks, so will get back to me soon.
Next week officials should be in the 1.8m-1.9m range.

God we have had some shocking ratings especially evictions :o good to see things picking up now, hopefully its not to late and it can be saved from being the least watched BB.
Armageddon week officials will be good and the ones posted today should be far better but a lot don't include +1 which really makes my sh!t itch.

Big Brother 2014′s Armageddon week helped boost ratings to their highest since launch week.
An average of 1.29 million viewers watched last week’s shows, up an average of 100,000 viewers on the week before and some 200,000 viewers on the lows of Week 4.
Armageddon week saw some of the most watched episodes of the series to date, with two shows attracting 1.6 million viewers to Channel 5.
But the week of twists ended on a whimper rather than a bang with just 1.3 million tuning for the double eviction and end of Armageddon.
While the ratings were some of the highest this year, despite the Armageddon twist the viewing figures were well down on last year’s equivalent week, which had an average of 1.5 million viewers.
So far, this year’s series of Big Brother has averaged 1.23 million viewers, down over 200,000 viewers on last year’s series average of 1.48 million.

Big Brother 1.40m (8.5%)
Still holding up really well. 2nd highest Monday of the series, same as 2 weeks ago, but lower than last Monday when Armageddon started.
Great share too.
For the last 7 days, we have had BB14 numbers which is great.

DS reporting that it got 1.36 excl +1, so surely the 1.40m is incorrect and should be more along the lines of 1.42-1.44m incl. The rating I got that 1.40m from (Bothersbar) includes +1 but is not tapechecked and is for the full slot. BB finished 5 mins early yesterday so the 1.40m is for the 10pm-11:05pm slot.

Looks like the weather is damaging everything.
Last night for BB was 1.2m incl +1. Hot weather and facing Geordie Shore may have lowered it. CH5 still came 3rd in its slot and was only 500k away from ITV.
Meanwhile...Utopia at 482k lost to MTV's Geordie Shore 541k.
And Eastenders got 4m

I wouldn't count Geordie Shore as competition if it got 541k especially when that's not that far ahead of Utopia which is been seen as a massive flop.
With Eastenders im pretty sure their ratings have been around 4/5 million mark for a good few months now I switched off for the first time ever with the Lucy Beale storyline and haven't switched back.

Geordie Shore usually gets 800k to 1 million per episode, so for it to get 541k is quite embarrassing.

But GS shares a huge crossover audience with BB. Foe example, GS facing BB would take out more of a chunk of BB audience with their 500k than Doc Martin getting 7m or Antique Roadshow getting 9m or Corrie. It probably knocked it down around 100k.
I read in the Broadcast magazine that 47% of GS fans watch BB and 28% of BB fans watch GS (as of 2013).

I'm pretty sure they must have in primetime considering the normally much higher than BB, One More Every Minute got the same rating as BB in the 9pm slot, whereas BB got that in the 10pm slot. So with more watching TV at 9pm, the OBEM share must have been very low, at around 4% or something, whereas I reckon BB got around 7%.
Just to note that at 10pm, The Mimic got 2.1% share  didn't it get over 2m a few days back and over 10% share?

It could settle at worse - it's at least up on those awful first few weeks. Hope it rises a bit though.
*mazedsalv**
25-07-2014, 10:55 AM
It would be nice if it rises but not sure, viewing has been at record lows this week. For example, summer nights on average gets around 20.5m watching in primetime, however the last few nights have dropped to 17m at 8pm, so can only assume that for 10pm, under 15m are watching TV when usually its around 18m and around 24m in winter.
Which means a 8m show on days like this would be around 60% share!
Also, according to DS, excluding +1 BB got 1.14m, so including it would be around 1.20m. Also to add that 1.14m got a share of 7.1% which is very good for a rating like that, incl +1, the share was probably almost 8% which is very good for 1.2m. Just proves how not many people are watching TV at the moment.
CG averages 3.5m in primetime, which is low IMO too.
Secret Life of Students finished with 480,000 on Ch4 at 10pm.
Loving that BB's ratings are picking up, I've managed to get my mum and sister back into it, just working on my auntie now! (Not like it contributes but every little helps and all that)
For anyone who has SkyDemand we could help the officials by downloading it off Demand the morning after, I do it.

Channel 4 have actually got some really good shows and original to not just copies of others and that's the direction they wanted to go in with more homegrown stuff but **** me they are doing appaulingly.
Looks like they will have to go back to their old schedule of American imports and reality tv if they want their audience back. They are far from their heyday of Ugly Betty and Big brother.
Even though BB is stuck at a very low 1.2 every night its atleast getting a big share and more than doubling the figures of Channel 4. Its to late to climb now, I don't think the new housemates helped in the long run may have been a different story if Bianca had stayed but the public tend to love to **** on their own doorstep and pay to ruin their own viewing experience.

Hey everyone, found some really interesting stuff on the new BARB website which I thought could provide some insight into ratings!
http://i61.tinypic.com/muv9rl.jpg
^ VIEWING PERCENTAGE OF GENRE - So this first image shows the viewing percentage of different genres. I assume BB would fit within the 'Entertainment' slot.. the high percentage shows that much of the British public are still very much interested in entertainment shows!
http://i58.tinypic.com/dob02d.jpg
^ CURRENT WEEK VIEWING FIGURES - This one displays the current viewing figures for the previous week. As you can see, Although C5 is 5th highest, it's worth pointing out that both Channel 5 and Channel 4 have their viewing figure set at 4.22% and with this weeks shoddy Channel 4 ratings, here's hoping C5 once again beats C4, like with last summer, thanks to a BB ratings push.
Also, if anyone is interested, Viacom's bunch of channels is currently at 2.3%. When the company takes over Northern and Shell and Channel 5, it will have a combined viewing percentage of 8.5% which would place it about BSkyB's 7.4% and very close to Channel 4's 10.7%!
http://i62.tinypic.com/2gybw43.png
^ 30 MOST WATCHED SHOWS OF THE MONTH OF JUNE - This next image displays Channel 5's most watched shows of the MONTH of June, rather than WEEK. As you can see, Big Brother has hit places 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 10th, 12th, 14th, 15th, 17th, 18th, 19th, 21st, 23rd, 25th, 26th, 27th and 28th.. now for those cynics out there.. imagine C5 disposing of BB.. they'd have to find 17 new or existing shows to even compare with BBs ratings achievements, despite them being lower than we all want them to be.
It's also worth noting Channel 4's most watched show of the month - The Hunger Games garnered 2.72m viewers. Channel 5's most watched show of the month - Benefits Britain, was not far behind with 2.62m viewers. Meanwhile the 30th most watched show on Channel 4 was Location, Location, Location and was seen by 1.37m. Channel 5's 30th most watched show of the month was Trauma Doctors at 1.35m. So all in all.. the two channels are very consistent with each other!
http://i61.tinypic.com/9iaj2c.png
^ CHANNEL 4 / CHANNEL 5 RATINGS RAT RACE - This image displays the changes in viewing figures over the few years between Channel 4 and Channel 5. In summer of 2013 you can clearly see Channel 5 overtakes Channel 4, the first time this has been done in Channel 5's 16 year history! It's also worth mentioning the current statistics, C5 is extremely close to overtaking C4.. and with this weeks viewing figures being low for Channel 4, it looks as though last year's rat race between the two channels is once again set to allow Channel 5 to be victor. It appears as though Channel 4 is consistent with having more lowly rated shows during the summer, while Channel 5's summer ratings always improves on the previous months.
http://i60.tinypic.com/2mwczo1.png
^ CATCH-UP SERVICES FIGURES - And here, for those who said that people are more often catching up on demand services are correct. 2014 has seen the biggest rise in viewing figures found on catch-up services.. perhaps this is the reason for overnight BB figures being lower than expected.. while some nights still pack a very high official rating.. like last Monday's awesome 1.9million!
http://i57.tinypic.com/2u5stic.png
^ VIEWING PUBLIC FIGURES - Lastly, here's further proof that people ARE watching LESS television than in the previous year.. which could further suggest the reason for Big Brother's somewhat lackluster ratings this series.
Hope I was able to shed some light on the ever confusing British public and the ratings! I'll try to find some more statistics if you lot found this interesting!

Sure it beat BBC2 too.
So, yeah 1.3m incl +1 I predict which would make it the joint highest rated eviction with Toya's eviction (which got 1.30m), last week 1.2m or 1.3m, can't remember?
Good for BOTS.

Big Brother 2014 ratings are on course to be the lowest since the series move to Channel 5.
This summer’s series has so far averaged 1.53 million viewers to date, according to Official audience figures provided by TV ratings company BARB.
It’s down almost 400,000 viewers on last year’s series average of 1.9 million viewers and 70,000 on the two series previous to that.
So far the show has lost an average of 150,000 viewers since launch week, which averaged around 1.67 million viewers.
This month’s earlier Armageddon twist saw a slight boost to the numbers with a high of 1.6 million viewers for the live twist, the most watched episode since launch night.
But the figures well back to their previous levels last week with Friday’s latest eviction attracting 1.2 million viewers.
However Bit On The Side has been doing surprisingly well despite the low numbers watching the main show, with over 700,000 tuning in to the latest instalment on Friday evening.
Big Brother will continue into August on Channel 5 before the new series of Celebrity Big Brother kicks off.

its so annoying, amazing house and great theme but some disappointing HMs. week 6 had 2 overnight ratings above 1.5 and last sunday picked up with 1.51, so pretty sure they are slowly picking up. I'm guessing an average view of 1.6 with the officials if we keep getting at least 3 ratings overnight with above 1.4. Wiki never has hardly any officials with +1

The 1.53m official is with 1/3 of the +1 ratings missing, so far the official average is 1.6m with the +1 which makes it equal to BB12 and BB13. No cause for concern considering it's on par to the general civilian series.
But quality wise, have to agree it's been a come down since BB14 and especially CBB13. Maybe that's why BB15 looks poorer, because it followed a critically acclaimed series of CBB13. Hence why BB4 gets stick to, following the huge BB3. Had BB4 followed BB1, it wouldn't be regarded as bad as it has been.

Hey guys, seeing as everybody enjoyed my knowledgable post last week about ratings, I thought I'd share this video about 5Creative, the team behind the design of Channel 5. It gives some great behind the scenes looks, plus it contains a little about BB and their improved family ratings.
http://vimeo.com/88460183
What I found most interesting, is that although Channel 5, the main channels share continues to rise and fall, and surprisingly, despite Secrets and Lies obtaining 1.9m in officials, 2013 was a poor year for the channel in percentage ratings (the worst since it's launch year, way back in 1997!);
2010 - 4.5%
2011 - 4.4%
2012 - 4.5%
2013 - 4.1%
The actual shares of the Channel 5 family continues to grow however.. perhaps that's due to +1 and +24 viewing as well as its other spin off channels like 5* for people to watch both BB and other shows...
2010 - 5.9%
2011 - 5.92%
2012 - 5.98%
2013 - 5.99%

Friday eviction almost the lowest of the week; really think they should move the evictions to a Sunday; it usually gets decent ratings and over the Summer there isn't much competition.
Maybe not for the celebrity series, especially January, but over the Summer a Sunday eviction could be what they need.

Weekly average has gone from 1.41 to 1.58 in 2 weeks. Im sure that will drop back down to around the 1.5 mark after this past weeks low overnights but still good climb.

With plus 1 (80,000) last night got 1.25.

What are you expecting? Not a lot of mid-series advertisement, little advertisement in the papers, people are ever so slightly bored of the series, it's the last few weeks. Ratings will not pick up. Armageddon was our best hope for a new start and that failed appallingly once that ended. The share of 6.6% is still well above Channel 5s regular share, and all in all the channel did very well for the night. Much better than other shows, such as with Channel 4.

It will never do as well, and neither will summer CBB.
The reason CBB9, CBB11 and CBB13 did so well is because they were on in January.
The CBB after BB15 next month won't get anywhere near Jan CBB ratings either.

BB got 1.37m incl +1 last night. 1.26m excluding (with a high share of 8%) and then 106k on +1. So with +1, the share would probably be close to 9%.

Good ratings!
I predict a low rating tonight, like you said, I was half tempted to watch the show on C4.. however it'll probably be a drop, just like with the Million Pound Drop which is struggling to hit 1 million an hour before BB! At least if the rating is low, it'll be in keeping with our poor eviction ratings this series!
