So Christian Coleman broke the 60m WR yesterday and Sharika Nelson broke the 60mH AR yesterday!
My favorite part as about Lolo Jones tweeting that Nelson's record "doesn't officially count" because it was at altitude and insisting that she "still has the true record" :joker: she since deleted the tweet and congratulated Sharika while also reminding us that she broke the AR when she won worlds.
Basically, Lolo Jones would be my choice for snatch game.

Sprints at the NCAAs were *INSANE* this weekend omfg
-Elijah Hall 6.52/20.02 sprint double (American record in the 200)
-Michael Norma WR 44.52 (he's only a sophomore)
-Kendall Ellis American record 50.34, Sydney McLaughlin WJR 50.36 in a different heat, Lynna Irby 50.87 (another freshman... she ran 50.64 earlier this year)
-Tara Davis WJR 7.98 in the hurdles
-Gabby Davis 22.38, Lynn Irby third in 22.55, Sydney McLaughlin 22.80 for fourth (ran a 22.68 in prelims yesterday)
-USC 3:00.77, Texas A&M 3:01.39, Florida 3:01.43, all under the 4x400 world record Poland set at worlds
I think I covered everything? **** was insane, you pretty much had to break a meet/collegiate/American/world record if you wanted to win something today. My other fave thing was Georgia women going 1-2-3 in long jump because that's just insanely impressive to have your third best jumper beat every other jumper in the collegiate system.

I have so many Diamond League meets on my DVR now that I need to sift through at some point, but NCAAs update! I was super pumped for the women's meet bc the collegiate women are just on fire but they were running through a damn monsoon so none of the marks were super impressive sadly. Keturah Orji was probably a highlight since she swept LJ and TJ? Oh and Maggie Ewen bc she won SP and DT, but I'm still kinda upset bc HT is her best but she fouled out at the NCAA West meet.
The men were actually great though on Friday! Michael Norman ran 43.61 and then two Jamaicans from Auburn, Akeem Bloomfield and Nathon Allen, ran 43.94 and 44.13... all three of them are sophomores :skull: and then Rai Benjamin ran 47.02 for 400H :skull:
Michael Norman and Sydney McLaughlin both confirmed after the meet that they plan on going professional now and forgoing the rest of their NCAA eligibility. There's a part of me that would've had fun watching them dominate the NCAA for the next few years bc they're both so young, but they've already done just about everything they could do in the sport so.
OH omfg how could I forget Lynna Irby, true freshman from Georgia ran 49.80 for the 400 :skull: Georgia's known as a field event school primarily BUT they did have Shaunae Miller back in the day. And Lynna Irby already broke a few of her school records.
If you're looking for your British news, Tim Duckworth won the decathlon! I think he's a plastic Brit though iykwim

USA's have been happening this week and it's been pretty unnoteworthy bc it's an off year and LOTS of the big names aren't entered/scratching at the last minute (I'm still mad about Sydney scratching from the 400) BUT I have some random updates...
-Emma Coburn and Courtney Frerichs looked really good in the 3000SC
-Noah Lyles was AWESOME yesterday, coming from wayyyyy back to run down Ronnie Baker and win the 100 in 9.88. He said he thinks he can run a 19.4 this year and I think it's actually possible?
-Keturah Orji and Tori Franklin went back and forth breaking the stadium record in the TJ. Nice to finally have some American women who can jump
-Deanna Price broke the American Record in the women's hammer throw and moved to #4 all time! She and Gwen Berry are currently the top two throwers in the world for 2018 and #4 and #5 all time, which is really cool for another event that Americans are usually not very strong at.

A really good British Champs this weekend, one of the best in a long time. Lots of high quality results, great weather and lots of athletes qualifying for the European Championships. Lorraine Ugen jumping a 7.05 WL in the long jump was probably the highlight for me!
Here's a list of qualifiers so far (those in CAPITALS qualify as reigning champion so 4 can be sent in that event):
Men:

800m: Elliot Giles, Daniel Rowden
1500m: Chris O'Hare, Jake Wightman
5000m: Marc Scott
10,000m: Alex Yee, Andy Vernon
3000mSC: Zak Seddon, Ieuan Thomas
110mH: Andy Pozzi, David King

Long Jump: GREG RUTHERFORD, Tim Duckworth, Dan Bramble
Triple Jump: Nathan Douglas
Hammer Throw: Nick Miller, Chris Bennett

Can't lie I haven't been as invested in the World Juniors this year, Eurosport aren't televising it and the only way I can watch it is through the IAAF YouTube stream, but it only rewinds 2 hours when the stream is still live so I've been having to wait until the stream is over to watch the full video online :skull:
I do know that Jake Norris is pretty much locked in for Gold in the Men's Hammer. Jake Heyward is being pinned as "the future of British middle distance running" so hopefully he backs it up with a Gold in the 1500m, and Molly Caudery is another medal contender in the Women's Pole Vault. Oh and Niamh Emerson has a good shot at taking the Women's Heptathlon title if she shows the good form she's been having all season.
We've sent a pretty small team due to British Athletics being bitches as usual and raising pretty much all of the qualifying standards higher than those set by the IAAF (for example we've sent a Men's 4x400m relay squad yet have no one running in the 400m whatsoever due to the standard being raised by nearly a second - what kind of dumb logic???)
I suppose my interest in junior athletes has dipped over the last few years, seeing people like Morgan Lake, David Omoregie, Shona Richards, Yasmin Miller etc. all medal at World Juniors and have still yet to make their mark as a seniors (Lake in the Hep, not the HJ). But then I guess Dina makes up for all of that so <333

Yeah for those three it's disappointing bc Collier was ranked #2 going into the meet, Watson is the defending champ and won U18 in 2015, and Wilson had the top throw from prelims and she won bronze at U20 two years ago.
Wilson at least still has the DT final and she's the top seed going into HT. Not sure about the 800 girls though :conf: probably both burnt out from long seasons? Maybe that explains our 51.5 girl who ran a ****ing 55 in the first round of the 400 and didn't even make the semis :skull:
And I'll be on the lookout for those people! I saw Caudery take a few jumps in the qualifications and she looked impressive. British Athletics sounds like they've made some questionable choices though, that's a shame.

I think just because she'd have to extend her season by another month and it probably felt like a very long year already with her first year in college and moving across the country and running lots of races at higher intensities? And like... we know she's good, she knows she's good, I guess she doesn't need the validation of winning U20.
And her figures haven't been disclosed yet but ever since she made the Rio team she's reportedly had insane professional offers of six or even seven figures so good for her for finally cashing in on that.

I really don't know what it was this year. It's not uncommon for us to not send all of our best athletes since there's usually a stronger emphasis on NCAA championships and high school nationals, but we had so many people just falter and miss out on gold or be way out of contention.
Anyway, I'm trying to enjoy the World Cup for what is because I do like the idea behind it but there's just so many nobodies who I'm not invested in at all. Not to mention that half of the fields are even smaller because China apparently didn't enter 14 of the events or something :conf:

Beatrice Chepkoech just annihilated Ruth Jebet's questionable world record in the steeplechase! :o
Courtney Frerichs just broke Coburn's national record too (beating Coburn in the process) to get 2nd in 9 minutes flat :o :o

Monaco is *INSANE* Shaunae Miller went sub-49 and Amos going 1:42.1.
Steeple was ****ing absurd though, 8:44 is unfathomable.

New Balance Indoor Grand Prix live right now in Boston, Raevyn Rogers gets an easy win in the 600 over Lynsey Sharp  Georganne Moline was actually in second with 100 to go but it looks like she got tripped up when Rogers passed her? DNF :(

Kendall Ellis and Gabby Thomas go 1-2 in different sections in their professional debuts over 300m. 36.97 for Ellis, 37.03 for Thomas. Shakima Wimbley and Candace Hill were 3-4 I think in that order?

There's literally nothing happening in the UK right now which is kinda sad, especially since the European Indoors are being held in Glasgow this year.
I feel like this year is gonna be a real dud for Athletics, the late Worlds is gonna make this season feel like a drag.
