Alol the GB relay coaches are on drugs - putting Daryl on anchor and Dina on second leg
Lol at us still getting silver from it!
Macie Lightfoot
05-10-2019, 07:08 PM
Was Dina really second leg??? Our commentators keep screaming about how we had to watch out for her on anchor but I wouldn't doubt it for NBC to just be dumb and not realize she was on second leg :joker:
Macie Lightfoot
05-10-2019, 07:10 PM
Okay they showed a replay and the American commentators are just that stupid :)
Honestly though putting your fastest leg second IS the way to go if you can practice the handoffs enough to make it work. That's obviously not an option with the Americans but if Dina can get the baton early in the zone and hand it off late in the zone then it actually works out well.

Get Mike Rodgers OFF the 4x1 and just put Holloway on ffs.
Honestly it should be Coleman, Lyles, Holloway, Gatlin but putting hurdlers in a flat relay is apparently un-American.
Macie Lightfoot
05-10-2019, 07:17 PM
YUP let's not only keep Rodgers in the relay at all, but have him run a curve and do two handoffs when he could barely do both of them in qualifying :)

Silly by Laura Muir trying to go with the winner. She should have just let her go and run her own race and she'd have got a Silver.
also Sifan Hassan had a choice to make, either this race or the 5, her coach said she had more chance at winning at the 5, but she personally wanted this race because at this event she did not have any medals till now

ooooooh NBC says Dalilah Muhammad is running the 4x4!
What happened to that South African guy Van Niekerk?
Wasn't he at the championships this year?

I didn't realise you could change your whole relay squad between the heats and the final, I thought the rule was always you can only swap 2 out??? When did that rule change?
Macie Lightfoot
06-10-2019, 06:17 PM
I don't know how recently it got changed but we did it with the mixed relay too so it might be new now?

They did it with Muir as well. The BBC always override the race feed with their own cameras that are focused on the British athletes if there's someone in contention for a medal :joker: If you'd just tuned in you'd think Wightman and Muir were fighting for a gold medal not a bronze :joker: So annoying

Yeah it happened with the mixed relay and I saw people saying online that they didn't realise that was allowed but assumed it was cause it was a new relay format. But now you can do it in the normal relays too apparently.
Anyway Martyn Rooney is not in the Men's final team so we might have a shot of not finishing last now <3

Didn't she have a blog post about how people need to stop being rude and saying she should run the 400 just bc she's slower now? :joker: hope it works out for her tbh she deserves some sort of individual success after all her junior success

Milrose Games last night were pretty darn good? Highlights include:
-4.91 for Sandi Morris to break the PV meet record (a seriously awesome day for PV because Kendricks jumped 6.01 for the American record and Mondo 6.17 for the world record in other meets)
-1:44.22 for Donovan Brazier to set the American record in a negative split?! 53.04-51.18
-Ajee' Wilson breaking her own American record in the 800 with a 1:58.29
-Elle Purrier breaking through with a 4:16.85 Mile to break the American record and become #2 AT?!?!?!
Jemma Reekie also is A Name To Watch this season for y'all Brits. 4:17.88 to break Muir's national record in the mile and she also ran like 1:57.91 in the 800 to set that national record too? Never heard of her before but I'm ready.
Also also, Koko Klosterhalfen does NOT look good. I'm not even trying to be that guy watching a woman's weight and whatnot but she is seriously looking unhealthy. She struck me as such at New Balance Grand Prix a few weeks ago but now she looks even worse? Ridiculously skinny and working wayyyyy too hard on that last lap with head and upper body movement. Not to mention that Salazar association. I'm just getting nervous for her.

Far too skinny in my opinion..
Now all young girls going into middle distance running will think they have to be this underweight to be successful

TeamGB's Laura Muir a bronze medal
Laura Muir claimed Great Britain's first medal of the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, winning bronze in the 1500m.
Faith Kipyegon of Kenya came first with a time of 3:52.96 while Gudaf Tsegay of Ethiopia came second, but Muir ran a season-best 3:55.28 to finish on the podium.
It marked the end of Muir's quest for a world outdoor medal after several near-misses, finishing fifth, fourth and fifth in her last three attempts.
It also came after the Scot suffered a stress reaction to her femur in her right leg in February which left her on crutches.
Muir, who won a memorable silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics last summer, said that the absence of a world medal had been "bugging" her.
"I am so delighted. It was all about this, that was what I wanted," Muir, 29, said. "I took my time trying but I am so, so happy I got it. This time last year I didn't have any global outdoor medals and now I have two.
"This was the one that was bugging me. After I got the silver last year, I was like 'this is the year I am going to get it' and I've got it.
"Better late than never, having to wait so long makes it feel even more special."
But there was disappointment elsewhere for Britain as Katarina Johnson-Thompson, the defending champion in the heptathlon, finished a lowly eighth.
Nafissatou Thiam of Belgium took Johnson-Thompson's crown, recording a personal best of 2:13.00 in the 800m to claim her second world title after Johnson-Thompson had beaten her to gold in 2019.
Two-time Olympic gold medalist Thiam won with a final score of 6,947, ahead of the Netherlands' Anouk Vetter and the United States' Anna Hall.
Johnson-Thompson, who has been plagued by injuries, will look to put her poor performance in Oregon behind her at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, where she will hope to mount a successful title defence.
Dina Asher-Smith gave Britons more reason to cheer as she qualified for the 200m semi-finals in a time of 22.56 seconds.
Asher-Smith said she was "gutted" after finishing fourth in the 100m final on Sunday despite matching her British record of 10.83 seconds, but this was a comfortable start to the defence of her 200m gold medal from 2019.
