Definitely think we have a good shot at topping the medal table at the Euro indoors this year, what with loads of Russians being banned for doping.

I know no one cares about American track and field BUT Millrose Games were last night here are some highlights:
-Brycen Spratling set a world record in the 500 at 60.06 (old WR was 60.17 back in 1987) but it's such a rarely run race so
-Robby Andrews still races like a high schooler
-Ashton Eaton almost died lmfao
-Fastest Kid on the Block false started but because "they're just kids" still won
-Jordan Hasay had a surprisingly good race in the Mile, Mary Cain not so much

I know nobody really cares about Americans here but the women's NCAA meet was POPPING
-Jenna Prandini scoring 26 points (10.96w 100/22.21 200/6.80 LJ) to lead Oregon to the women's title
-22.24 getting FOURTH in the 200 with legal wind :o
-18 y/o Raevyn Rogers running 1:59.71 for the win
-Dior Hall breaking the WJR record in the 100H with a 12.74
-freshman Keturah Orji breaking the AJR record with 14.15 in TJ (not to mention that she landed standing up and had no extension whatsoever)
-freshman Raven Saunders throwing 18.35 to win the SP
-Akela Jones winning the Hep with 6371 in her second heptathlon ever :o
guys meet was pretty good too, junior Andre De Grasse blew up the field with a 9.75w/19.58w double
Junior and Senior nationals are both next weekend so there should be some interesting stuff there

eh, much bigger population pool for starters, but even then it's not uncommon for the big NCAA names to come from abroad like Kirani James, Natoya Goule, and Dominique Scott (who I assume will compete for South Africa once she graduates)
I like Dina Asher-Smith! She came across really well in her interview at World Juniors last year and I was thrilled when she beat Kaylin Whitney tbh! Whitney broke the high school records in the 100 and 200 last year as a sophomore and she trains with a professional group that's LOADED with drug cheats so the whole thing is rly suspicious tbh. And then she signed pro and now trains with that group full time :) :) :) :) :)
Speaking of Whitney's 100 high school record, it was broken this weekend by a sophomore! Candace Hill ran a wind legal 10.96 which has to be one of the best HS performances ever in any event. Completely mind-blowing. Also this weekend had the girls HS long jump record broken (a 39 year old one!!!) by Kate Hall with a 6.83.
We have US Juniors and US Youth coming up soon and I'm excited to see what Sydney McLaughlin does. Almost beat the NCAA champion last year in 400 hurdles and qualified for the World Junior team but was too young :joker: this past weekend at HS Nationals she repeated her hurdle title in 55.8 (just off her PB) and had two 51.x splits on relays. And she's only 15 years old :o
Hayden I feel bad that I always come in this thread and bombard you with American **** so here's a question I have, whatever happened to Jodie Williams? I remember back in like 2009 or 2010 she had some crazy streak and didn't lose a race for four or five years. Is she still running fast?

Haha it's not a problem at all  Better than just me posting in here all the time... I like keeping up with American affairs too!
Jodie won Silver at both the Commonwealth Games and European Championships last year in the 200 (coming second to Okagbare/Schippers), smashing her PB in pretty much every race she ran last year. She dabbled about with doing some 4x400 relays too. She hasn't run at all this season due to injury, idk if she plans to run at the Worlds or not.
She is definitely progressing though, and I can't wait for her and Dina to have a showdown!
I heard about that Candace girl... she is definitely one to watch in the future for sure.
Also Troy please tell me you do not support Gatlin and Gay and all the other irrelevant has-beens that should've been banned for life years ago. :clap1:

Oh and a bunch of foreign athletes with British citizenship recently switched allegiance to the UK, including Zharnel Hughes (who broke Blake's junior records and almost beat Bolt in New York) and Cindy Ofili (Tiffany Porter's sister).
I'm going to watch the Trials and will be there for the 100m Hurdles final, which will consist of Tiffany Porter, Cindy Ofili, Lucy Hatton, Serita Solomon and Jess Ennis. It's definitely gonna be the event of the champs for me!

Also Troy please tell me you do not support Gatlin and Gay and all the other irrelevant has-beens that should've been banned for life years ago. :clap1:
the only thing I support about Tyson Gay is his bubble butt tbh.
But yeah, the drug cheat stuff is why I can't fully get behind Kaylin Whitney (the girl who broke high school records in the 100/200 last year as a sophomore and went pro. Candace Hill broke her 100 record this year.) She's been training with Star Athletics, which is Dennis Mitchell's track club that Damu Cherry and Justin Gatlin are associated with. All three are drug cheats so it naturally makes you suspicious of everyone involved.
Speaking of drug suspicions, there's been a hell of a lot of stuff going on with the Nike Oregon Project, one of the best distance groups in the country. Alberto Salazar (who is controversial enough as it is) is under suspicion mainly for stuff with Galen Rupp. It's also interesting that Mary Cain (the American equivalent of Jessica Judd as I understand) has left NOP and Lauren Fleshman has come out and talked about how Salazar took her to one of his doctors to get her diagnosed with asthma and then told her how she should take her asthma medicine.
Fun fact, my father coached Tiffany Porter's husband in high school!

US Nationals aren't being shown because of the NFL draft  but they cut to the women's 100 final and it's gonna be Torie Bowie, English Gardner, and Jasmine Todd going to Beijing! They beat out Prandini, Bartoletta, Tarmoh, and Jeter :o Jeter went down and might've pulled something right at the end of the race but she was already out of it.

A few shocks from the US trials this time.
British Trials are next week. I can't see Team GB being that full tbh, since selectors have been extra harsh this year. First of all, you need 2 A Standards AND Top 2 at the trials to achieve auto selection. If you fail to reach top 2, you can only be selected if you have a realistic chance at making the final in Rio. Selectors also get final say over IAAF invitations, so someone who doesn't win the Trials but is high enough in the world rankings to receive an invite from IAAF to fill up remaining spots could still get rejected if selectors don't see enough potential in them. Men's middle distance in particular is looking likely that no one will be sent. Also, if you plan to compete at the Euro Juniors or U23s, then you aren't allowed to compete in that same event at Beijing
I'm going on Friday and Saturday to watch, but all the main finals will be on Sunday (which is the only day being televised by the BBC).

Ajee' Wilson is not going to be racing at Worlds because of injury. Real shame.
In more controversial news, however, Nick Symmonds has been dropped off of the Team USA roster! There's been a lot of controversy because's openly refusing to sign a conditions statement because one of the conditions is that everyone must wear Nike at any Team USA event, but there aren't any guidelines as to what is defined as a Team USA event and since he's sponsored by Brooks he could get in trouble and he wouldn't be allowed to bring his trainers on the plane and all this ****. I don't know, Nick's been very vocal about all of this and he had some big press conference tonight where he's blowing up USATF's spot so it should be interesting for the next few weeks.

Fave time of the year with high school, NCAA, and USA championships all in one weekend! Some highlights that nobody cares about
USA:
-Sandi Morris joins the 16' club by winning PV and going 16'2.75" (4.95m)
-Vashti Cunningham wins her first senior national title, jumping 6'6.25" (1.99m). She is 18 years old and broke the world junior record, btw.
-Ajee' Wilson goes 2:00.87 for 800m
-Brianna Rollins and Keni Harrison go 7.76/7.77 for 60H
-7.00 for Barbara Pierre in 60m
NCAA:
-Kendell Williams broke her own collegiate record with a 4703 heptathlon
-Edward Cheserek wins the 5000 in 13:47.89, anchors the winning DMR with a 3:52.84 anchor about an hour later, and then wins the 3000 with a time of 8:00.40
-Freshman Lexi Weeks wins PV with a jump of 15'2.25" (4.63m)
-Keturah Orji wins nTJ with a jump of 46'4" (14.12m)
-Freshman Teahna Daniels wins the 60m with a NCAA frosh record of 7.11

-Sanya Richards-Ross does not finish the 100 bc of a hamstring issue
-DeeDee Trotter runs 51 high in the 400 and then collapses with an asthma attack all while the commentator notes "if there's one thing that's for certain, you can never count out DeeDee Trotter" :joker:
-and then idk, more Lolo Jones theatrics since she doesn't start her race
yeah, this is definitely It for a lot of the big-name Americans. A lot of them aren't gonna make the team and it's gonna be a big changing of the guard across the board in almost all events.

holy **** Sydney McLaughlin just obliterated the high school record in the intermediates with a 54.46 :o she's only 16. I'm excited to see her in Olympic Trials. Gonna be tough as hell for her to make the team but it'd be great if she made the finals and got like top 5.
She also split 50.93 FAT on a relay two days ago fwiw

Aside from McLaughlin, another New Jersey person I'm very excited about moving forward is Keturah Orji. She broke the American record at NCAAs for Triple Jump. American women are so weak in that event so it's refreshing to have someone who looks promising for once.

I do lol every year tho @ the results from Eugene compared to other venues. Like how Morgan Lake threw nearly 15m in the Shot Put at the World Juniors in 2014 and has never thrown 14m+ since then. That track really is somethin else, it must have magic powers!
I love English Gardner but I still don't see her medalling at the Olympics tbh. She's never run faster than 10.9 on a track other than Eugene which is why I'm skeptical

Most likely either Germany or France will be on top of the medal table and GB will be in third place. It will be more tighter though.
Finns might get one medal from Javelin, but thatīs it. The level of competition is and will be too high in the other events.

I think France will top the medal table, with Germany second and GB third.
There's a really weird rule this year for all sprint events (up to 400) and hurdles events that if you're ranked in the top 12 in Europe you automatically get a place in the final.
Christine Ohuruogu isn't even top 12 so she'll have to run 3 rounds </3

The magic's especially real for the Oregon athletes/alumni. The residents of Eugene are very into it and insanely loyal to their Ducks and go crazy whenever an Oregon athlete does something great. Like, out of all the great things that happened I'm pretty sure they got the most excited over Jenna Prandini and Ariana Washington going 1-2 in their semi :joker:
I don't wanna call it a home-field advantage, but they almost always rise to the occasion and perform well for their fans. All five big-name recent Oregon sprinters (Gardner, Prandini, Washington, Jasmine Todd, and Deajah Stevens) made the 100 semi-final, and I'd bet that Hannah Cunliffe would have too if she was healthy.

You might be correct. France will definitely dominate the sprints, relays, 400m, 800m and be a serious contender in the long distances. Theyīll also have candidates for all of the medals in all of the field events.
Germany will be great in the field events, but maybe lose somewhat to France in the track.
GB will do well also, but i think France and Germany are somewhat ahead. Not much, but just enough.

Women's 800 was a complete trainwreck. Wilson, Rogers, Montano, Martinez, Ludlow, and Grace all together with 150m to go when Montano takes a spill and also knocks Martinez down and trips up Ludlow who stayed up but still lost her momentum. Grace ended up winning, Wison came in second, and Crishuna Williams kicked like crazy to beat out Ludlow for the third spot by 0.04. Alysia Montano threw a giant fit and was hysterically crying and putting on all these theatrics as she jogged and stumbled into a 3 minute finish.

The state of the women's hurdles is ridiculous. Keturah Orji won the triple jump as expected and Christina Epps just hit the standard on her last jump to take second -- they're both from NJ so I have to root for them. First time we're sending three women's triple jumpers since 1996. Women's steeplechase final was also outrageous, has to be the fastest American race ever. Full team is announced this Wednesday but some athletes have already secured automatic selection at the trials a few weeks ago, Gemili being one of them in the 200m.
Our current auto qualifiers in the 100m sprint are James Dasaolu (PB 9.91 - second fastest British man ever) and James Ellington (PB 10.04 just recently set at these Euro champs). We can send 3 athletes per event so the person who finished 3rd at the trials will probably be sent too - that's CJ Ujah who has also run under 10 seconds in the past year with a PB of 9.96.
In the men's 200m, Adam Gemili (PB 19.98) and Danny Talbot (PB 20.27) were top two at the trials and so are automatically selected, but the big talent is Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake who ran 19.95 earlier this year which ranks him 5th in the world this year going into the Olympics, so there's a real chance he could make the final (same for Adam if he can match his PB again). Nethaneel will most likely be selected as the other potential athlete for the third spot (Zharnel Hughes, PB 20.02 who trains with Usain Bolt and broke Usain Bolt's junior records and was 5th at last years World Champs) has withdrawn from potentially being selected due to injury.
I'll post the team here in full once it's revealed on Wednesday!

Yes, he has only just recovered from a slight injury so was not at his best in the Euro champs, although he was given lane 1 which is hard to run due to the tight bend.

Also only 2 Russians have been cleared to compete at Rio - Darya Klishina and Yuliya Stepanova - under the IOC neutral flag. This is because they train and have their lifestyle in America and are not part of the systematic doping. All other Russians have been denied, including the homophobic Yelena Isinbayeva who claimed they were "taking away her human rights" by not allowing her to compete yet she said gay marriage should be banned lol

David Omoregie 13.25 PB in the 110 hurdles, making him the 4th fastest British hurdler ever - isn't going to the Olympics
Richard Kilty 10.01 PB, Joel Fearon 10.04 PB and Harry Aikines-Aryteey 10.08 =PB in the 100m.

And last night in Zurich she won the overall Diamond League for 1500m :clap1: So she's secured automatic selection for the World Champs next year (in London) which means we can send 4 British women in the 1500m (including Laura Muir) if we have 4 women with the qualifying time (we currently do but some of them are 5000m runners so probably won't double up)
Lets hope Eilidh can win the Diamond League in the 400m Hurdles later this week, it would be great to have two British diamond league winners in one year :clap1:

I'm subscribed to their emails yeah, and I signed up for email alerts about London 2017 pretty much as soon as the 2012 Olympics were over, but I don't think I've ever been offered an early bird sale unfortunately
There will be exclusive first-come-first-served sales for those who were unsuccessful in about two weeks though so I'll try again there, but whether 100m final tickets will still be available is doubtable

Yeah I think they only offered it early to people who had bought tickets for British Athletics events before rather than just people subscribed to their email account.
Apparently there's been over 1 million applications for tickets and there's only 700,000 tickets to give out  So I doubt there will be another general sale, or if there is then it'll sell out almost immediately. I'm not really sure how they're gonna allocate them tbh

Yeah a first come first served sale is gonna be even more manic so I shan't get my hopes up  I'm pleased but surprised it's been this well received, I haven't seen the ad on TV? I guess the Olympics must've given it a boost
I mean I can't be too annoyed cause I'm gonna see Mo, Bolt in the heats and Greg in the long jump qualification and maybe even Laura Muir in a 1500m heat? We didn't get the tickets in the application phase where it went to a ballot, but from what I understand those who were unsuccessful in the ballots (as my brother was for the two Saturday evenings) will be given an exclusive first-come-first-served sale for another load of tickets in about two weeks, before they put the remaining tickets on general sale later in the year
But trying to buy tickets at 11am in a mad rush with everyone else is a total lottery  but then again so was the ballot, so I suppose you're right

Old world records could go - proposal.
European Athletics proposes rewriting athletics world records after doping scandal
39 minutes ago
European Athletics president Svein Arne Hansen ordered the review in January
Most of athletics' world records could be rewritten under a "revolutionary" new proposal from European Athletics.
It set up a taskforce to examine the credibility of records in January following the sport's doping scandal.
British world record holders like Paula Radcliffe and Jonathan Edwards could lose their titles under the criteria.
Svein Arne Hansen, the European Athletics president, said world records "are meaningless if people don't really believe them".
European Athletics' ruling council has now ratified the proposals put forward by the taskforce and wants the sport's world governing body, the IAAF, to adopt the changes it sets out.
If the proposals are accepted by the IAAF, world records would only be recognised if:
. It was achieved at a competition on a list of approved international events where the highest standards of officiating and technical equipment can be guaranteed;
. The athlete had been subject to an agreed number of doping control tests in the months leading up to it;
. The doping control sample taken after the record was stored and available for re-testing for 10 years.
The council also recommended that a performance should be wiped from record books if the athlete had committed a "doping or integrity violation, even if it does not directly impact the record performance".
The proposals are a response to last year's McLaren report, which uncovered widespread doping in sport - and athletics in particular. Russian athletes are currently banned from international competition unless they can satisfy strict criteria to show they are clean.
More than 100 Olympic athletes who competed at the 2008 and 2012 Games have been sanctioned for doping after the International Olympic Committee embarked on a programme of retesting old samples.
"There are records in which people in the sport, the media and the public do not have complete confidence," added taskforce chair Pierce O'Callaghan.
'A step in the right direction'
The IAAF has stored blood and urine samples only since 2005 and current records that do not meet the new criteria would remain on an "all-time list", but not be officially recognised as records.
This would include Edwards' triple jump record of 18.29m - set in 1995 - and Colin Jackson's 1994 indoor 60m hurdles world record of 6.30secs, as well as Radcliffe's marathon mark of 2 hours 17 minutes and 18 seconds.
Radcliffe has previously criticised plans to wipe records from the books and last month told BBC Sport she favoured making doping a criminal offence instead, to deter cheats.
However, IAAF president Sebastian Coe said the changes were "a step in the right direction".
"There will be athletes, current record holders, who will feel that the history we are recalibrating will take something away from them, but if organised and structured properly we have a good chance of winning back credibility in this area," he said.
European Athletics president Hansen said he would encourage the IAAF to adopt the proposal at its August council meeting.
"What we are proposing is revolutionary and not just because most world and European records will have to be replaced," Hansen added.
"We want to raise the standards for recognition to a point where everyone can be confident that everything is fair and above board".
