Yeah it does seem like more effort is being put into this series.

Reading the history, it really makes 14 look good. When it launched very low I remember people worrying. But it's the highest rated regular.

16 launched poorly, and have a feeling 17 will launch the same. Perhaps a tiny bit more. 1.86m I predict with +1.

It's unbelievable when you compare 15 and 16 ratings to the previous three winter CBB series. With CBB IMO the sky's the limit. With civilian I don't think it will ever touch 14 figures.

Rob!
17-05-2016, 09:42 PM
If I remember rightly last year had quite a bit of competition against the launch didn't it? It will hopefully do better this year

Bump!! Now we know the date (i think). My predictions:

Launch- 1.82m
Wednesday-1.31m
Thursday- 1.28m
Friday- 0.97m (against opening game)
Saturday- 0.79m
Sunday- 1.30m

Last year IMO was harmed by the earliest C5 start... actually, looking at Wikipedia, never in the history of BBUK, had it started that early. The previous earliest was the 18th May 2006 when BB7 launched. This time last year it had already been on for 13 days as it started on the 12th May. The Monday coming up will mark a year since 4in4out happened.

But i think that, plus the fact that I am sure it had quite a bit of competition (more than most years) and it ended up getting 1.8m. So, i think around the same, but like I said, it wouldn't shock me if it was between 1.5-1.6m.

Rob!

Now we know the scheduling, what is up against it on Launch Night? Isn't Silent Witness usually back when BB returns or am I thinking of CBB?

You're thinking CBB. Silent Witness is normally on January,.

Launch apparently is up against the Cameron/Farage debate.

Anything else?

Rob!

I mean that will dent the launch but it's hardly the same demographic is it? Mind you on the other hand it's a big debate so who knows.

For sure.

I reckon from tomorrow with new information coming in potentially they should start promoting it more!

Love Island played it very well

Will.
30-05-2016, 10:04 PM
Yeah. I guess it will get will some good promo on This Morning during the week.

I haven't really been watching MTV/Comedy Central so not sure if they've been playing the advert a lot.

Jack_
30-05-2016, 10:06 PM
If the shoddy promotion doesn't step up I wouldn't be surprised if it's as low as 1.3/1.4m

Rob!
31-05-2016, 11:27 AM
I get the feeling Love Island is going to be a problem this year. The excellent promo ITV have given it meant that it launched to 850k inc +1 last night. It only got 450k for it's launch last year.

*mazedsalv**
31-05-2016, 11:30 AM
I think Love Island will be a problem now. It's going to take a lot of viewers off BB as it's in the demo.

We also have the Euro's to worry about, which I think will dent it even if there are non important games. I think people underestimate that there are a lot of people who watch footie and BB (me for starters).

Then we have the Olympics, but don't think that'll be too big a deal considering it's in Rio, the bigger events will play out surely when BB isn't on. As their primetime will be either 5 hours behind or ahead (can't remember which one).

*mazedsalv**
02-06-2016, 12:04 PM
The Hotel Inspector: 1.6m (8.2%) inc +1

Interesting that this returned last night higher than every single show of BB16 bar the launch. It proves that there is still a C5 audience out there (Can't Pay is also delivering similar ratings), so in theory, BB should not be falling below but it will probably average 1.1m or something, which is pretty embarrassing.

Jason.
02-06-2016, 12:16 PM
I wouldn't worry about LI. BB will get more than LI regardless. I mean last years promo for LI wasn't too bad either, but that didn't stop BB16 (the lowest-rated series with no promo whatsoever) get double its ratings.

Cal.
02-06-2016, 11:02 PM
No one knows it's launching on Tuesday. I don't think it'll launch well unless the promo intensifies over the next few days.

Love Island actually seems to have captured the publics attention this year. Pretty sure against Gogglebox it got a non premiere high of like 800k.

Now tonight someone was kicked out. I really reckon it fill be a problem for BB. That along with the Olympics and Euro 2016 we are in for a tough one!

MB.
05-06-2016, 10:33 PM
Love Island has captured public attention because a) the media are covering it this time round b) the advertising was bordering on Goebbels-esque

Jack_
05-06-2016, 10:33 PM
It deserves to be a problem for BB, it's been brilliant so far and last year's was better than BB16 and I'm calling it now idc - this year's will be better than BB17

They promoted the **** out of it because they wanted it to do better than last series and are rightly reaping the rewards. If only C5 had the same attitude

Well, we don't know what the +1 figure, with a 1.4m excl it will be a ~1.6m.

But your point still stands, if BB16 launched at 1.8m like it did, and then dipped to 0.9-1.0 the first weekend, then we can certainly expect that this year.

IMO, last night got 1.58m incl +1, and tonight will get 1.21m.

Erm...I don't really know what to say to that.
I think I'm actually not going to bother following the ratings this year. Especially if it's a good series...which with that figure and the way they chased ratings last year I don't think it will be. I'm actually stunned.

i mean people have been saying "huh it's back?" for years and the launches still did *ok*. even with a better ad campaign you can't let everyone in the country know it's on, i think people just don't care anymore.

But your point still stands, if BB16 launched at 1.8m like it did, and then dipped to 0.9-1.0 the first weekend, then we can certainly expect that this year.

IMO, last night got 1.58m incl +1, and tonight will get 1.21m.

I didn't expect massive ratings its not an event anymore but why do we see 1.6 million basically as a disaster when its still slaying all the other reality shows barr I'm a celeb.

TOWIE gets about 500k and I think its highest was only ever 1.7 but is seen as a phenomenon and all its cast turned into stars same with Geordie Shore that gets under 1 million in overnights I believe and Love Island? 700k.

What did BOTS get? God I had to switch that off it was just all about orgies and ******* it was like an episode of EuroTrash.

According to Broadcast:

BB launched with 1.6m (8.4%) including +1, down on last year's 1.8m (10%), but was up on the channel's 980k (5.5%) slot average.

It's poor but not as bad now the +1 is in there.

I think BB just has a core audience now of around 1.2 who will allways watch live and it still has its say 300k who catch up and I cant see it dropping off much like it used to. Yes we used to get big numbers for launch but the drop off was huge now more people stick with it.

zakman440
08-06-2016, 12:50 PM
That rating is awful tbh, but it was to be expected with the lack of promotion in comparison to Love Island (and Rylan backing out of Radio 1).

The problem is, if the next few weeks continue to be so low then that's when the producers start going in to panic mode. If they attempt to reset the series again in a few weeks time, they run the risk of losing the audience that's still there.

Jack_
08-06-2016, 01:47 PM
Like....that's the launch.

Daniel and Jack are going to have strokes when they see this :worry:

Nah, this is precisely what I expected. In fact I thought it would be lower

The promotion ****ing sucked, people kept trying to defend it but it sucked. And they've rightfully paid the price. Unfortunately for us fans this is going to be the last civilian series so let's enjoy it before C5 ram the proverbial dick of CBB down our throats forever more, which I won't be staying for

Rob!
08-06-2016, 04:04 PM
I think the best we can hope for at this stage is that the officials beef it up. Last night at the very least should hit 1.9/2m in the officials.

nonstop
08-06-2016, 04:42 PM
Christ, those are poor ratings for a Launch. Channel 5 should just end the civilian series.

Jason.
08-06-2016, 04:52 PM
That is an awful rating but it was to be expected. Not only because the promo wasn't as good but the show is never going to rate as well after BB15/16. Not to mention they've lost quite a percentage of the loyal 1.6m viewers they had 3/4 years back.

And the promo was awful - my sister only found out it was launching half an hour before the launch even started. :umm2:

*mazedsalv**
09-06-2016, 08:56 AM
Big Brother (10pm): 1.36m (9.1%)

That's the smallest launch to first night drop ever on BB.

That's quite impressive considering BB launch got 1.39m excl +1. And to be at 10pm, the share was much higher than launch. However, not much will be added on +1 because that would have been broadcasted at 11pm.

To compare, Big Brother 2015 first HL show got 1.19m incl +1, and this is set to be ~1.5m with +1.

Love Island went on to post a phenomenal figure of 0.92m excl +1

MB.
09-06-2016, 09:01 AM
Okay that's slightly less disconcerting and would suggest some sort of stable audience at least

*mazedsalv**
09-06-2016, 09:05 AM
Okay that's slightly less disconcerting and would suggest some sort of stable audience at least

For sure.

Last year:
Launch- 1.83m
1st HL show- 1.19m

This year:
Launch- 1.6m
1st HL show- ~1.5m

The norm is a drop of 20-25%, last nights drop (excl +1 anyway), barely even registers a 5% drop.

So, does this mean, a 10pm slot will help BB this year? Tonight and tomorrow it's back at 9pm. Both facing Love Island and then Euro's on Friday, so that will be tricky.

But it's very positive news for last night though.

I honestly think the EU debate took viewers away, as did Love Island.

Watch BB fall tonight facing Love island.

It seems after last night that LI at 9pm and BB on at 10pm every day (bar evictions of course) should be what they must do because BB had the smallest drop ever and LI got the highest ever rating since launching on ITV2 over a year ago.

Tonight will be down to around ~1.2-1.3m IMO. Perhaps 1.12m excl and then 180k on +1.

Tomorrow doesn't bear thinking about.

Idg the LI snobbery, I prefer BB as a show but as if C5 BB is any better than LI. They couldnt even promote their own show well. And last year's LI was way better than the last two years of BB imo.

And in terms of Tom's "good looking and model types" comment - this years LI cast actually has more normal people than BB17's cast and if you look at their jobs - they're much more normal and everyday than the people's in BB17's - who've all been on the cusp of fame bar Hughie.

But anyway - great retention for BB last night. This series has potential and I pray and hope the producers don't push the panic button unlike last year. The first show was entertaining and they should let them just get on with it.

Someone should email him and ask him what the likelihood of the civilian series being axed before the end of the contract is if the ratings continued to be poor, hopefully to put our minds at rest one way or another

Oooh that's extremely positive? Last night was an excellent episode so hopefully it'll be enough to sustain some interest over the coming days. Love Island can do one, it is SUCH trash. Even Timebomb was obliterating it last year and this looks to be a much better series.

It may have obliterated it in the ratings but not in series quality, Love Island blew BB16 out of the water

People should give it a chance, I wasn't expecting to like it last year and had the same snobby attitude as most but it was surprisingly good and this year looks extremely promising too, and as others have said the cast are far more like how Big Brother's used to be than they are now - I'd actually say the editing is far more old school BB-esque too.

It might be a show about showmances but there were people last year who made it to the final having never found any love interest and one couple who were just solely friends. You find out a lot about the personalities of each of the islanders and so while the show revolves around the theme of love, it's still got the same qualities I enjoy in Big Brother. It's very underrated

It's not as bad as last year:

Sat (first Saturday): 750K
Sun: 1.12M
Mon: 1.13M
Tues: 1.08M
Wed: 1.17M
Thurs: 1.05M
Fri: 1.10M
Sat: 640K
Sun: 900K
Mon: 877K
Tues: 1M
Wed: 974K

It would have to fall like this in the coming weeks, welp at 640K.

I think it's unlikely considering the competition it's got this year but considering where it's been at the last two years I think it's actually not doing that badly this year. Channel 5 will be expecting it to fail against the sport and it's still up on their slot average. Not by as much as it used to be but it's still up.

I don't take their opinions seriously tbh when they ranked BB12 as the best C5 series and BB13 as the worst series ever a few days back.

They're also unnecessarily nasty towards some of the housemates. Like the slut-shaming of Laura and that Jackson thread where they're calling him a druggie. :umm2:

Technically, the football finishes at 9:50pm.

And BB starts at 10pm.

Either way, it's a Saturday and a lot of people will be out. It will be tragically low. But probably around 100k higher than very very low due to the hype about tonights episode.

650k? 650-800k was the norm for BB16 Saturdays I recall.

Its pretty split in DS.

Look at the thread saying "This is going to be really controversial" (the longer one, not the shorter one as that's about Ryan), and the thread is basically everyone saying they're loving it, best on C5 etc...

Probably. A lot of hype from last night can only help really. Its all down to the +1 ratings now when it's on at 9.

Start of series the +1 figures are never really over 200k. But as series progress the +1 grows. Previous CBB had only like 120k on +1 and then big events when it got ~400k.

Tonight that could happen if it's a good one

Rob!
12-06-2016, 11:09 AM
970k without. That's pretty bloody good I think. Is this series capturing people?
Hasn't gone under a million with +1 since launch which is certainly more than people expected from it following it's dire launch rating.
