Only in soaps can a whole room of people notice one person not drinking some champagne
'You're pregnant aren't you!!!!'
Has the new producer actually taken over? Denise's pregnancy screams a DTC storyline.

I think we're still in the limbo where DTC had left but SOC hadn't started yet so it's all still DTC's storylines just playing out.
Thought Grant was gonna take Mark Jnr with him lmfao
'We still know some faces round here'
That means Jack Branning then
I remember in 2013 when the 'men of Walford' went to confront Max Branning and it was Phil, Alfie and Masood lmfao
Marsh.

He's not done that in all of the many times it would have actually proved useful before? :joker:

It's funny though.
Barbara Windsor wants to leave for good, she promises to get Ross Kemp back for a guest stint and THIS is what they came up with?
I'd rather we'd had Peggy helping Phil over the summer and dying in Autumn.

I'd rather Phil and Grant took on Gavin in the mansion in a cheap Get Johnny rehash than this messy plot with The Vamps rejects.

Can't they just let him die for once?
I think that episode pretty much summed up quite a lot of DTC's era, much as I loved him. Either that or SOC closed it all down early.
1) what exactly was the point in Colin?
2) What was the point in the Grant/Mark/Courtney thing if nothing actually came of it?
3) WHY MUST THE COKERS LEAVE???
Marsh.
10-09-2016, 02:13 AM

I thought we had a few more months yet. :bawling:
Mess @ the laziness of Sonia's exit plot.
They literally have months to come up with character leaving plots and all's they ever come up with is new job/moving to Spain.
The amount of maternity leaves they have to come up with each year as well. Never understood why they don't just keep them off screen with a few scenes every few weeks like Tina could say something like 'Oh Sonia's out at the shops' or whatever.

EastEnders will be saying goodbye to Claudette Hubbard in a few weeks' time, Digital Spy can exclusively confirm.
Ellen Thomas, who plays Claudette, has recently filmed scenes which see her fearsome character departing Walford.
Digital Spy understands that Claudette has been written out after Ellen's latest stint back in the role - but the locals shouldn't sleep too easily, as the door has been left wide open for a future return.

I just think it's a bit of a waste to cast a new character, do nothing, then axe them just to inevitably introduce another new character.
It's different with characters like Ronnie and Roxy who have had their turn and many years of stories.
I'm kind of sad about Kyle - the actor wasn't anything special but I think the character had potential, especially after all the hullabaloo they made about him being the first trans actor in a soap. I was looking forward to seeing that side of the community actually explored - relationships etc but I guess it wasn't to be. How many is that now? Seven? SOC isn't ****ing around..Mind you, the majority of them are DTC characters which doesn't say a lot for SOC's opinion of the era just gone.

It was DTC who didn't make good enough use of Kyle in the first place; the same goes for most of those whom DTC introduced with the exception of the Carters. So, I don't blame the new producer for shredding him over those with a little more layering and backstory to them.

Yeah, but the thing I think of is, this producer is inevitably going to replace his axings with newbies anyway. So it's not as though he's thinning the ranks to focus on the characters already with some development. He'll start from scratch with some others too.

It's a bit lazy though don't you think? If a character hasn't been developed that much, take it as an opportunity to basically create them the way you want rather than just getting rid of them without a second thought. If I was taking over a soap, it'd be the characters that haven't been focussed on that much that I'd be paying attention to. Just getting rid of the last guy's new characters just smacks of not wanting to take the effort to me.
Marsh.
14-09-2016, 10:55 PM
That's what I mean, I can understand getting rid of spent characters (like Ronnie) or characters that don't seem to be working and have flitted between two different personalities (like Claudette) but axing a character that hasn't done anything at all seems pointless.
He could literally give Kyle almost any storyline/development he wants and create from scratch because aside from his introduction we know nothing about him.
But then, maybe he doesn't see strength in the actor? I suppose there could be a mixture of reasons for axing characters.

He could literally give Kyle almost any storyline/development he wants and create from scratch because aside from his introduction we know nothing about him.
But then, maybe he doesn't see strength in the actor  I suppose there could be a mixture of reasons for axing characters.
Balls to him if that's his reasoning for getting rid of the Cokers, especially Pam.
Marsh.

Balls to him if that's his reasoning for getting rid of the Cokers, especially Pam.
They are actually probably the most natural characters in the show. I know Les can be eccentric but he is believably so.
Like, everyone loves Sharon's campness or Ronnie's villainy but as great as they can be, they're clearly OTT characters in a soap. Whereas, by comparison, characters like Pam and Les seem so real and natural with one another.
Les reminded me of Doctor Legg. I genuinely thought the Cokers were DTC's best creation. Even Paul could have been good given some actual time to develop. But Paul is DTC'a fault.
Marsh.
14-09-2016, 11:02 PM
Yeah, Paul is a last minute replacement for Sam Strike being a disloyal arsehole. :hmph:
Ashley.
14-09-2016, 11:03 PM
Yeah, but the thing I think of is, this producer is inevitably going to replace his axings with newbies anyway. So it's not as though he's thinning the ranks to focus on the characters already with some development. He'll start from scratch with some others too.
As long as he does a better job with these new characters than DTC did, then I'm all for the replacements. I'm completely over labored storylines given to characters like Kyle and Claudette for the sheer reason that they're underused.
Marsh.

Doesn't have to be laboured though? His job is to make it good.
I wouldn't class Claudette as underused. She's a prime example of not knowing what to do with a character. She flitted between three personalities; intriguing foster mum, cheery caring Coker family friend, and murdering Gangsta Gran. So as much as she was becoming more likeable I can completely understand a character like her being axed.

But, tbh, isn't Claudette living away from the Square and they put in her exit article "has always come and gone anyway" or something so she'll have a non-exit I think. Where she just lives off the Square and they randomly "go to stay with mum" or whatever.
