Crystal, Sugar, Kenny, Randy, Ace, Matty, Susie were just all great characters imo and yeah the only thing that ruins the season a bit is the winner unfortunately

I didn't like season 18 so much - it's a bit of a 'middle of the road' season, but I can barely remember much of what happens - except thinking of one person
I'm currently re-watching season 18 and can vouch for that
I think I preferred Gabon to China :S

Crystal and Kenny were really great <3 I do think I've decided China is my fave tho. Gabon is probably somewhere between 6th and 8th

Yeah it was mainly Crystal and the interaction between them than Kenny himself
Susie, Crystal and Dan (RIP) would probably be my top three from Gabon, but then you've got people who contribute on vastly different levels such as Randy, Kelly, heck, even Gillian and her elephant dung, plus a couple of genuinely quite likeable people (in this season? I know right?) like Matty and, er, I'll come back to you on that one... and finally you've got the likes of Sugar*, Ace and Corinne who... erm, definitely exist, but who the season might not be anywhere as good without, so it's definitely one of my favourite cross-sections they've put together
*no, I'm not huge on Sugar - possibly because I occasionally appreciate Corinne's tryhardyness and completely affected bitchiness more than the next person (but only occasionally), who can say? I'd still rank Sugar above Corinne, but the show's attempt to edit her as a hero when I think the opposite would make her a much more interesting character strikes me as weird. Going down that route, is there anything in a possible Sugar/Adam comparison being made? Or am I going completely mad?

I do think Gabon is very rich in characters. There is something not right about this season though. I guess it's just for the sheer messiness that everyone talks about.
Personally I think China is the most well-balanced, engaging cast of any season. It just feels like the characters complemented each other so perfectly.

I think Tocantins is another underrated season. That one has quite a few characters as well.

Sierra was the main likable one on the Coach tribe. Erinn had her little breakthrough and Tyson, as much as I didn't like him at the time, did have a few highlights (I probably have to say the same about Coach too although I practically never found him entertaining personally).

I haven't seen Tocantins since it aired but if I had to pick a favorite I think it'd be Debbie???

Incredibly bland with no personality, seems to take himself and everything too seriously, etc. The white privilege card can definitely be played there. J.T. actually had a personality, was funny from time to time and was a quality game player.

I think JT definitely played his cards well in Tocantins but he absolutely had more to work with by being the Southern country boy that people implicitly wanted to trust. Like MB said, Brendan went on a Reward with JT and promptly decided to throw his game away for him since he was already rich and didn't need the money. Coach decided immediately that JT was A Good Person and henceforth interprets JT's actions to further his narrative as a form of confirmation bias (a tactic which Coach proves to do every season he's on, but that's neither here nor there), and his whole mindset of Taking Warriors To The End is literally about taking strong men to the end. Again, JT definitely worked these things well to his advantage but he had plenty of opportunities that not everyone had just on the virtue of being a decently attractive straight white man that people would want to be led by. That's not an angle that people like Shirin or Cydney can work, or one that they even have the opportunity to.
Sierra and Taj in the Exile Alliance together <3 I'm liking Debbie and Sandy too. Stephen, JT and Tyson are good.

I think I'm gonna need to take a break after Tocantins, I want to go into HvV with lots of enthusiasm, and right now that's waning.
On a positive note, Taj making it to final 10 :clap1: Annoyed that JT found out about the idol!
I am sooo confused about what's going on with the game in the first episode of the post-merge... Why have Taj and Stephen suddenly jumped ship on Sierra and Brandon? Is it because Coach allied himself with JT opening up an opportunity for the outnumbered Jalapaos?
Just seen Brendan's boot episode. This season actually sucks quite profoundly... It just feels like nothing big has happened, and the characters are weak af compared to the last three seasons

I think I somewhat liked the season. The cast is very average overall but Coach/Tyson/Debbie were fine "villains" for me to root against and I did reeeally like a few people (particularly JT & Sierra).
Okay I'm an idiot - I should have stayed away from previous forum posts but after a browse in LukeB's first watch thread I thought I knew the entire cast bar one so I caved in and went ahead and looked at the full cast.
I actually thought Natalie Bolton was in HvV, but it turns out she's not and Sugar is. The only other surprise was Randy.
I am disappointed that I won't have the surprise element! Iirc I didn't know that Richard, Rudy, Jenna L, Tina, Amber, Rob C, Jenna M and Rupert were returning for All-Stars.
To have three returnees from Tocantins kinda sucks.

I actually like Tyson more in hindsight even though I thought he was pretty annoying at first when I watched him in Tocantins. Like the naked stuff & the way he acted sometimes was just stupid but when I think about it he's so awkward & sarcastic in a douchey way that it's funny to me. I'd have to re-watch Tocantins to see how much my opinion has really changed though (which I'm not going to do) - and I think I might like Debbie more in hindsight too.
Coach on the other hand is just not very likable or entertaining, in a funny way, ironic way, or anything.

Eh, I only really found him funny from 2:09 to 2:55 so my initial thoughts in Tocantins might be right. But I think I mainly disliked him at first because of his association with Coach and how against Sierra he was which was a top 1-3 favorite of mine all season.

Just watched the first episode of Samoa. It was pretty entertaining and the cast seems promising, but I am already seeing the airtime dominance of Russell. He and Ben were kinda dicks to Marisa.
I just watched the opening titles and I swear there were about five people who didn't get a second of airtime?
I've restarted Samoa - up to Episode 5.
Russell is so annoying. But like in a tryhard way. And it's ridiculous how he's always the focus of the next time/previously sections.
My favourites are Ashley, Shambo and Liz.
Don't like either Russells, Dave or Linda. Ben was ****ing awful.

Knowing that Russell makes it far in this season, I'm reminded a lot of Boston Rob in AS. You just get this feeling the game's being handed to them.

I'm really happy she won as I don't personally like Russel, he plays a great game to get to finals, possibly one of the best but doesn't manage his jury well and so will never win - I think he played the game well to get to finals though, and in turn I suppose people who stuck with him (knowing they'd beat him in turn played well I suppose).

Samoa is a really weird season. Obviously Russell in particular and to an extent Shambo dominate the airtime, both of which are very marmite characters. Personally, Shambo is okay, Russell is awful.
Then you have Natalie - vaguely likeable, Jaison - faded away, Dave & Laura - unlikeable
The other five or so are truly dull or have had no airtime? Who knows, maybe I'd like Kelly if she'd had more than a scene of airtime?
Natalie is my favourite (midway through episode 9) but I honestly don't feel strongly about anyone. Not the strongest season. Bring me HvV!!

I liked John :/ Wish he'd stayed. My thoughts on the Final 8:
Russell - I mean he is quite different to any other player but the overbearing quality of airtime he has is offputting and he himself is just pretty annoying.
Dave - Literally no character development at all for this guy apart from the odd dickish moment?
Jaison - Likeable enough, standout moment was him standing up to Ben, and I liked it how he was wary of Russell wanting to blindside John, but he's pretty UTR.
Mick - Hardly had any airtime
Brett - LITERALLy who are you? I've never seen someone get to Episode 11 and have so little airtime
Natalie - She's probably the most objectively likeable person there. She has had somewhat of a story arc which is nice to see in this season. My pick for winner.
Shambo - I like Shambo, but she is quite overbearing. I do feel sorry for her cos she is totally used by whichever side she's playing on.
Monica - Very UTR, but her association with Laura turns me off her.
Samoa is definitely up there with Thailand, Vanuatu (sorry!), Cook Islands and Fiji in terms of how bad the final 5 is
And why am I finding myself wanting Brett to win? He literally only started getting airtime two episodes before the final, yet there's something very likeable about him, and it would be cool to see someone actually win from a string of immunity victories for once.
Overall a pretty underwhelming season. The cast was weak - or at least the editing would have us think.

Not gonna lie though for a pretty poor season, at least Vanuatu had a decently solid final 5.
45 mins into HvV and already really enjoying it! So happy to see Sugar, Randy, Boston Rob, Courtney, James, Stephenie, Cirie and Jerri. Kinda indifferent towards Colby, Tom, Tyson, JT and especially Candice and downright don't want to watch Coach again lol.
Really good first episode. Sugar tho :( <\3
Episode 2 thoughts: I am really liking the Villains. Randy is objectively hilarious: 'she's a waitress from NYC and now she's a construction worker?', really liking Rob and Jerri as well. On the Heroes, it's really interesting seeing James spiralling into this villainous role, and I actually did appreciate the defense Colby and Tom (who are usually both wallpaper) gave to Steph at TC. Really gutted Stepehenie went, not here for a repeat of the dominance of the Cirie/James/Amanda kinda group we saw in Micronesia.
Not Randy now :( Loving this season but really not happy with the first three boots. Randy was one of the most unique, interesting characters in this season.
Also I must make clear how much I value Jerri's participation in this season. She's just a breath of fresh air next to the likes of Parvati, Candice and Amanda, and truly is a great representative for the old school seasons. Having said that, she'll probably be the next to go.
Cirie is great and massively entertaining but omg her blindside was amazing :love:
Jeff developed from 'nice guy host' to 'wind-up nobhead' over the course of the first 20 seasons amiright? His worst moments from HvV so far were:
'Sugar, you lost the challenge, and right on cue, you're crying'
and
in response to Colby explaining why the heroes rejected the chocolate, saying they want to get to the challenge, 'I got the message brother, we'll go when I'm ready'

Never thought I'd have strong feelings towards Tom, Colby and J.T., but I'm actually really liking all three this time.

Danielle needs some airtime.
Boston Rob </3 I'm pretty sure Russell gets to the end, simply from my memories of YT videos, and that really sucks.
Watching Episode 8 next and hoping it's the merge.

This is definitely Parvati's best stint yet, liking her quite a lot this time.
Episode 10 is one of the most exciting episodes to see what happens in terms of the game I can remember on Survivor.

This F5 is awesome in terms of star quality, character strength, and just the general storyline of the season. Villian-come-hero Sandra :love:... Supervillian Russell...strategic queen Parvati...breakout star Jerri...and Colby can be the posterboy for old-school Survivor I guess?...
That FIC was so ****ing tense :joker: Really wanted Jerri to have a secured spot
****ing awesome season! Definitely one of the best. Whilst it potentially lacked stand-out or groundbreaking moments, it is just the character dynamics and storyline from beginning to end that really make this season. Honestly, nearly everyone came out likeable.
What a far-cry from AS this season was. It's actually quite bewildering? This season was just so much more of a perfect mix of everything you want from a Survivor season.

I really appreciated Jerri this time. I just think she's a lovely person, but she didn't have the game to win.
Again, I appreciated Danielle so much more this time. She's actually pretty funny, and I liked her standing up to Russell and fighting Amanda for the idol.
Sandra also improved. Didn't care for her as much as most seem to in PI, but she really became one of this season's biggest heroes.
Parvati is a great player - I think I finally got her this time. It's funny to think how far she came from CI.
I like Rob. >>>>Russell.
I loved it when Tom stood up to James. He really shone as a good guy.
Courtney was disappointingly irrel this time :worry:. Her best moment was calling Jeff 'Jeffrey'.
Candice was sooo much better this time. She came into her own and showed she was actually an intelligent respectable woman.
Randy, Stephenie and Sugar all should have lasted longer.
Amanda is okay, but she's just dull, and didn't deserve to play again :worry:
I've never been that big on Cirie, and this time didn't change anything. She's really entertaining and a great player, but she just has an air of arrogance, and her affiliation with Amanda etc kinda turned me off her in FvF.
Coach grew on me. He really showed a more sensitive side this time.
I liked Rupert for the most part, but he got annoying in his last few episodes.
James sucked this time. Guess he latched onto his own hype?
Need I say anything about Russell? I'm glad he got his comeuppance. WTF is he playing at at reunion.

My favourite season, i felt jealous you were watching it for the first time. It was my first season I watched which was like 2 years ago.
Just started Ep 2 and the only question I have thus far in Nicaragua is: why, in the 'All Survivor Intros' video, is a nice unique version of the theme tune used, but in the actual episodes it is just the Borneo theme? I'm not complainin' though, it's pretty cool having the original theme back.
I liked Wendy, wish she'd stayed.

Messy episode, I liked both the quitters. Kelly should have had more airtime. This F7 really isn't ideal, Jane's the only properly good one, and I don't think she'll get close to winning.

Not sure how to feel about this season. Certainly far inferior to HvV but also far from the bottom of the pile. It's just a bit meh... Few stand-out moments (Naonka-Kelly fight?) and few stand-out characters but watchable enough.

Considering this is panned as the worst season ever, that was a pretty strong opener. Messy TC. Just a shame Francesca has gone and I really like Kristina. Phillip sucks a lot but is entertaining.

I hated Stephanie for the early episodes, but I grew to like her as an underdog and appreciate her as an interesting character.
Sarita is the only truly good castaway left on Zapatera. Quite like Julie from Zapatera too, and Andrea from the other tribe too. Philip is great if only for being an amazing character.
Ashley really sucks.
The grant guy seems really pathetic? Like he's just there as Rob's wingman/puppet/Amber?
I've realised I only like Boston Rob when he's an underdog - hence why he's bad in AS and especially RI so far, but really great in Marquesas, and HvV to an extent.
Honestly him along with the posse of Grant, Ashley and Natalie are one of the worst alliances I can think of.

this season turned ugly pretty quickly. ****ing sick of redemption island, and rob's dominant alliance.
on top of this, the racial stuff in rice wars was so uncomfortable and completely unnecessary from Philip. I'm stunned at Philip calling Steve racist and then saying that 'black men sometimes self-destruct and go bambambam' :umm2:
Things weren't slanted nearly enough against Phil at TC. The words 'racist' and 'Steve' were mentioned in the same sentence a few too many times for my liking.

I find the 'love from home' episodes really really dull. Probst even said himself that people either love those episodes or hate them. They're really hit or miss for most.
Ashley and Natalie are so stupid not taking Rob out. Even if he did play his idol in the end.
Well... the premerge was actually quite good, but when I got to Episode 7 and realised Sarita and Julie were the only good ones left and Sarita was halfway out the door, it severely went downhill. RI should not have been used in the post-merge, and it was just sooo dull.

If you can get past the S22-S24 gloom you have some good seasons to look forward to - 25, 27 and 28 are probably three of the best for me. I personally enjoyed pre merge of S26 alot and post merge of s29 alot also - so 25-29 are a good run of seasons imo. All better than S21, S22, S23, S24 for me anyways

Maybe pathetic is a bit harsh, but he just kinda cowers in confrontation and has no conviction in his actions, like after he flipped.
RI twist honestly sucks so bad. A simple tribe swap would be vastly preferable in both seasons; it would probably have prevented the pagonging in RI and it feels like the same might happen this season.
Edna </3 She really came into her own toward the end of her stay

South Pacific is a middle-tier season. I think what helps it is that it is just perfectly superior to RI. The cast is pretty good, and it did have memorable moments. The gameplay was somewhat lacklustre though.

I decided to watch Jeff Probst's cast assessment for S24 (I've never known anything about a new player cast beforehand in the past) and it seems like quite a good cast? Apparently this is a season with v unpleasant behaviour tho :worry:
It's... not a very good cast (there are conspiracy theorists out there who believe that they purposely cast the worst newbies possible in order to get away with having so many returning player seasons afterwards. I'm not one of them), sorry to shatter that image so quickly. But that's not a comment on the season itself, so y'know, have fun!

I'm back! I was gonna start again after LI/BB finished but I have just been craving Survivor too much recently. Omg it's been 3 months, normally I take only a month break.. I guess S24 really did scare me off. I was gonna finish S24 but I decided I should start on the apparently positive note of Phillippines. S24, in the eight episodes I saw was an utter abomination. Horrendous casting and uncomfortable viewing. Unsure if i'll ever finish it but decided for now, that's enough of ****ing that :)
Anyway, perched for S25, idk the winner (I don't think?) so should be good!

Abi is one of the best villains this show has ever had and although I love Philippines without her it would've been boring

Phillipines is meant to be this post-HvV shining beacon but I don't really feel that way about it so far. Like the show has definitely not been as good since S20, but I don't think Phillipines is any, or much, better than Nicaragua. S22 and 24 especially were horrendous though.
I just feel like the 25 cast has been underdeveloped until after the merge.
EDIT: I read my post back - don't get me wrong, S25 is definitely a good season. It's just not amazing.

I think Penner might just be someone who's easy to appreciate more over time. Because I didn't like him the first time I saw him (in Philippines) until later in the season and then I appreciated him a lot more the other times I watched him after that.

I might've enjoyed Philippines when I first watched it but that's more to do with it being one of the first couple of seasons that I watched. In hindsight I realized that it's just kind of ok overall. :shrug:
