I really like the songs of all the four girls in the UK's selection. Especially Salena's.

Babayaro.
23-01-2017, 07:09 PM
All are fairly good tbh, but nothing special really.

1. Salena
2. Lucie
3. Nate
4. Danyl
5. Holly
6. Olivia

I'd be happy with any of the top 4 representing us tbh, but I expect it to be a similar result to last year's.

The BBC has confirmed that an eight person jury will have a 50% say in who will represent the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv, Ukraine. The jury will be made up of five music professionals as well as the previously announced panelists who will be giving live feedback during the final. On the panel are:

Sophie Ellis-Bextor – Singer and songwriter known for her 2001 release “Murder on the Dance Floor”. Has released six studio albums and toured around Europe.
Bruno Tonioli – Italian choreographer and dancer, known for being a judge on Strictly Come Dancing and Dancing With The Stars (USA). Was also a panelist at the United Kingdom’s 2010 selection.
CeCe Sammy – Vocal and performance coach, she was the chairperson for the United Kingdom’s jury at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016. She awarded her 12 points to Cyprus in the final.

All really rather beige tbh. Danyl or Salina are probably the better entrants.

Danny Beard from BGT was in the running with a banger but wasn't shortlisted </3

Just listening now.

Nate's - pretty. Might pick up a few votes but sounds too similar to Joe&Jake in terms of the song's progression. Wouldn't do very well. I like him and his voice though. 5/10.

Lucie's - A lot more "what Eurovision would vote for" if the song actually went anywhere. This could've been a clear winner if it had that sort of dark electronic vibe that you've seen from Margaret Berger etc, but now it's just a bit too... 'lifted from a musical'. 5/10. Do they not bother with any actual music production?

Danyl's - There's a hint at this actually being catchy but it's too underplayed (the chorus buildup) and his voice doesn't really go with the song at all. 4/10... I don't mind it but I don't think it'd do well at all.

Salena's - OK this sounds a lot more "current Eurovision". I worry about her vocals but it's relatively catchy. Oh nvm the chorus just came about and it's really quite average. 6/10.

Holly's - Liking the build-up to the chorus. Oh the chorus is quite nice too. This might be my pick? Her voice seems stronger than Salena's too. Lyrics a little naff though. 7/10

Olivia's - She probably has the best "look" about her, but I don't know if she'd command a stage. Song's got the right sort of vague political theme that Europe lap up but doesn't really go anywhere. 5/10.

I think we're doomed anyway what with the Brexit vote. Can we not let Radio 1 take over this selection process? Radio 2 in general are far too safe and tedious.

I don't get why people are saying this Lucie song is good? It's literally so bland and forgettable. If we are any position but the last few we will defo struggle to get any points. No dig to lucie, she has a nice voice but the song is so dull.

No because it's bland as ****. I love how people are comparing it to Ukraines winning song last year. Yes I see the similarities; A song against the struggles of deportation and protecting a family and a song about keeping a boyfriend.

It's a better than 2015 and 2016s entry by far. A ballad song isn't such a bad thing. Jade Ewen did good, ballads do good in eurovision too, Dami Im came 2nd with it. It would have been embarrassing if we went Selena whose vocals were awful.

A ballad is totally fine, but this is not a memorable ballad. It's honestly so forgettable. Especially against so many other songs.

In 1998? I disagree.

I think Jessica Garlick in 2001 was a fantastic song, 1999's Say It Again remains a bop and the beeb put a hell of a lot into Jade Ewen, the europeans just hate us - as I've said a few tines we could reform 1D and send them and we wouldn't do well - I still adore Eurovision but we don't have a chance no matter what we send.

My Time was catchy and powerful and only scraped top 5 because that year a lot had been made of how political the show had gotten - without Jury vites we wouldn't have even got in the top 10.

I mean they're never going to go to that effort but yeah.

I genuinely think people are sleeping on Lucie, Jade's ballad was far more uninspired than this effort and Lucie has the far better vocal as well, Europeans might like the simplicity. Especially if it's a banger heavy year.

I like music from Indila and Stromae anyway so I love her style of song as it's lit like a combo of the two, but I get what you mean.. Indila took over Europe the other year with her song (except this country because it wasn't in English so no one picked it up :/) so I can see this doing very well

A whopping 21 members of the Eurovision Song Contest's organisers have quit after clashing with a new boss running the show.

The Ukrainian Eurovision team said the fallout began in December, when the new leader for the committee took away their major responsibilities.

Team members revealed the news in an open letter published in Ukrainian, which explained how they tried reach an amicable solution and compromise, but this wasn't possible.

They did not wish to comment on the abilities of the Eurovision boss who they cited in their resignation letter, but added the following:

"We say that the principles of transparency, the ability to solve professional problems and challenges should be the basis for the Eurovision 2017."*

The voting was so close that year as well. It literally came down to the final 12 points.

I guess that's why I can admire last year's voting format because they wanted it to be as tense as possible, but it just didn't have the same impact as it used to. I remember watching 1993(?), It was between the Irish entry (who eventually won) and Sonja for the UK and it came down to the last 12 points.

this is the profile of Romania's Ilinca, wow can't believe she's only 18 :hee:

Nicky91
09-03-2017, 12:57 PM
for those who can't understand Romanian, here's a little recap on a interview with Ilinca

She is coming from a family of musicians, her father is a canto teacher who used to sing at the opera as a tenor, her mother sings at the philharmonic, her grandma was a music theory teacher and her grandpa the director of that art school.
Her family expected her to follow the same path but she suffered from aphonia and dysphonia, had some problems with the vocal cords so she couldn't sing at all.
So they sent her since 1st grade to study piano and music theory, she didn't like it, she said at the end of the 4th grade she almost failed it.
She started singing since 5th grade thinking she would have more success (obviously, she didn't, she says laughing ). She took Canto lessons and started going to the festivals for about 5 years where the only succes she had meant people in jury saying to her "Give up!" or "Please pick theatre" or "You could maybe start dancing?".
Obviously, she didn't give up. She started searching for something fit for her and found Yodeling. At first her father hearing her while washing the dishes turned the water more so he wouldn't hear her but she started sounding better so gave more attention to Yodeling.
She started Yodeling at those music festivals and the same people who said to her to give up Yodeling now gave her 1st place in all the competitions
She wanted to compose a song with Yodel but then she remembered she sucked at composing because she gave up music theory in 4th grade and asked a composer to do it, after many refusals. She won the big prize at Mamaia festival with that song.
She makes a joke about that song because it's about a girl in the countryside that goes to the city and tries to give up her inner "rural" self and even now she feels like that because she can barely stand on her 3cm. heels and not use the accent people in Ardeal have it.
Also, she says about Yodeling that it appeared after shepherds started calling the sheeps and her name is a version of the word "shepherd".

I hope you didn't get bored if you read this. It's not a story about a kid who was a star and had succes right from the start. It's about this girl who had years, day after day of struggling with singing, suggestions she should quit, the problem with fitting somewhere, giving up piano and music theory and finding what she likes and can do.

Israel: Imri has got a nice uptempo song, maybe a bit too repetitive, i prefer Golden Boyd way above I Feel Alive, maybe i had too high expectations due to last year's amazing Made of Stars :(

Ireland's song is called Dying to Try, what a crappy song, well at least better than Nicky Byrne's Sunlight but not much better :hehe:
