What is the host city drama?
They were going to announce it- ditched it last minute and it's been thrown about and now it's up to the prime minister or something of Ukraine to decide.
It's a giant mess.

It's between two cities and we still have like 9 months

Ah right. I'm not sure how quick other countries have been recently with organising stuff, seems like something Malmo/Vienna wouldn't have done though.

It's looking less and less likely that they're going to prepare properly and its more fans getting pissed off about broken promise after broken promise
It'd been fine if they say, left it until they were ready ut they went ahead and were like 'Hey guys here's a huge announcement!' and the giant deal they were making over it all and giving it 2 hour specials and stuff :S

www.escdaily.com/editorial-four-eurovision-2017-rumours-might-true/#

4 – Emmelie de Forest will compete for the UK.
Bit of an odd story this one, something somewhere doesn’t add up, you’d almost believe that she owes somebody at the BBC a favour but it’s been confirmed recently that Emmelie de Forest is working on material for the UK entry for Eurovision 2017. The Danish 2013 winner posted an update to her snapchat story with the caption “Writing camp for Eurovision songs for the UK Eurovision”. This does confirm that she is working on material for the UK entry in 2017, however it was confirmed by the BBC earlier this month that there will be a national final format implemented in 2017. Exact details of the format have yet to be released by the BBC however submissions for songs from the public are open and it’s unclear as to whether the involvement of the 2013 winner has been at an invitation made by the BBC themselves. It was also unclear whether Emmelie de Forest intends on singing her own song in the national final or, if not, who she is working with on these submissions. No exact details surrounding the potential Eurovision entry have been released but we do know that she is definitely working on it.

I've lost count of all the rumours, so here's a handy list of all the fabricated nonsense.

Joe and Jake - Returning to give it another shot, or just performing as the reigning champions? They've got some big news for us this month.

'That Lund Bloke' - Karl, a contestant at last year's final. He denies that he's in the show this year, as a performer or songwriter.. But this says otherwise. So who knows?

Vangelis Polydrou - A semi-finalist on the final BBC series of The Voice UK. Connections to Karl, as seen above. Experience his erm vocal talents right here.

Aminata - Has she penned a song for us this year after her previous success? Apparently, it may be a co-write with the genius behind this song. Erm, ok...

Rhianna Kenny - 'Leaked' by the guy that brought us the notion of Funky Eldrine. Probably complete bull then, but she did sing this once upon a time. Not bad.

Emmelie De Forest - Has the Danish Eurovision queen penned a song for our selection? Something like this would be very welcome, I have to say.

Mahan Moin - Has the genius behind this 6th-in-a-heat Mello entry put on her song writing hat for us? Let's hope it's better than her Swiss offering.

Gabriel Alares - The brain behind 'A Million Voices' and 'What If' is rumoured to have penned us a killer balled. Or so I hope.

Natasha Bedingfield - This years celebrity rumour. Usually someone in desperate need of a career revival, Natasha certainly fits the criteria. I love a bit of Unwritten from time to time.

Well, I believe that's all the main rumours covered. It'll be interesting to see if a single one of them is correct. I find the Vangelis rumour to be the most believable, Natasha least. Surely she's not that desperate. It is career suicide, isn't it? So we're constantly told...

Bianca Claxton, Abby Scott, Eloise Rees, Corrine Bailey Rae, Rhydian Roberts and The Lost Souls Club have also been mentioned at some point in the thread.

"Pure Eurovision" has changed, novelty acts are a rarity now, it's not a joke anymore, just the UK seems to think it is.

Salena if the performance isn't a mess is the one I'd like to see go. But I think Lucie would suit it if female ballads aren't scattered all over the shop because she'd stand out. But I do think it's hellishly dull.

Salena > Holly > Nate > Olivia > Lucie > Danyl

It still exists in the fun that other countries provide though, whether they're novelty or not. We send boring dirge that is marketed for UK charts that doesn't even end up successful in that regard.

Oh no I get what you're saying, they have acts who have fun but they try to present them as credible these days, I think the last novelty act was probably Cake To Bake and then Latvia just decided it wasn't working anymore and sent two credible entries after it and it got them back to back finals after years of failing

Black Dagger
23-01-2017, 12:41 PM
But I don't think any of the songs we've presented are terrible, I could happily send most of them and not feel embarrassed at what is being put on show, it was the same with Joe and Jake, I thought that was a good upbeat song that deserved better.

Yeah, and if the UK continues to not take it seriously, then they may as well risk it and send a really bizarre act that is at least meorable. We have nothing to lose since we make the final anyway.

I think it's worse when we send really basic songs that are obviously not going to do well or add anything of interest to contest :p

Its not novelty we need but something new and unusual, a new sound.

The seven years song last year was unusual, in sound and structure and would have won eurovision easily, for example

Rockabye had a good story, unusual synth sounds, a regge sub lyric and had a very catchy chorus - it was unusual and catchy and thats why it was huge

Wee lassies singing trite lyrics in a ballad format cannot win as its just wee lassies singing ballads.

All the songs would be lucky to get on the left column of the scoreboard in present form
