I'm off on holiday tomorrow but I'll be following the forums online!

Honestly, if it's on later of course the total numbers will be lower. But if the share is good, that might be more important to them.
People should take the share into consideration much more nowadays anyway.
I don't know about the shares though. Is it good and how is it fairing in comparison to the last few series?
Yes. In terms of overnights Daley's actual ejection clip was shown on the same day as the event and got 1.69m. The next day where the HMs find out he was removed got 1.77m.
Wow can't believe how well BB14 did!
BB14 did really well, averaging 1.9m. That's like double what the show gets now. Also I think the 1.9 million doesn't actually include the +1 figure for all the episodes since some of them were missing, so the actual average might have been 2.0-2.1m and we'll never know.
edit: nvm, the 1.9m includes +1. Still pretty good for Channel 5 though.
I think really poor scheduling ruined BB18's chances of rating well. An 8.30pm launch on a Monday? Several episodes being bumped to 10.30pm? Just poor scheduling all around.

I found out the other week that the 1.9m includes all the +1 figures because BARB only release the top 10 to the public don’t they? So without the +1’s it got less than 1.9m if that makes sense bc I was thinking the same thing ages ago x

Actually, you're right. My bad! I just saw this note on Wiki:
"^Note 1 : This figure is quoted by Channel 5 as the official consolidated series average and takes into account all +1 figures missing in this table."

There is nothing of interest on BB as we already know who is entering the house & they are pathetic - Love Island will thrash BB yet again.

The love island app is used to vote people off, like yesterday, whereas BB's app does nothing useful
Tonight's love island could reach 2 million. It's a huge episode and literally everyone is talking about it. Although BB has quite a big eviction and 4 newbies too, that people are excited about (Sue), I think it'll get about 800k again.

I'd say the momentum and excitement of the eviction and newbies could have pushed it over tonight. but it's now the weekend and back at 10pm so no chance. If the series generally improves it could possibly

Ratings should shoot back up next year since it's the last series. Will probably be just below BB14.

The last series on C4 only went up 0.5 million though, so not sure next year could go from ~1.4 to 1.9... although if it is a massively advertised All Stars with proper all stars from both eras of the show, it could! If they even done that before officially axing it, they could then renew it based on that I think

I mean the sad thing is for the most part, this series doesn't deserve it. It's not the best by any stretch but it's been interesting and natural for the most part. Problem is people don't have the patience with BB anymore. They want fight night by about day 3.

I called the general public dumbasses because after 17 years of BB they still think after an eviction the next episode is just a repeat. Also bellend isn't a swear word if it where it would be blocked out like your **** remark.

CBB19 wasn't a flop?
It was, relatively. CBB20 will fall further down that hill. It might get better viewing figures than civ BB, but too low to justify the paychecks.
supertv247
03-07-2017, 10:40 AM
CBB19 averaged 2.4 million
CBB 17 got 2.8, 15 and 13 got 3.1 while 11 got 2.8 and 9 got 2.7
So yeah CBB19 was the lowest January series by quite some way (and it would have been worse if they hadn't done the big panic twist evicting Angie, Austin and putting 3 newbies in BBUK style - you could tell it was going badly)
CBB18 got 2.2 which is the same as most summer series, and 300k more than CBB16 did which was very good, but that followed BB17 which was up 200k year on year too. Either CBB20 will overshadow BB18 a lot, or BB18 will cause it to fall again like CBB16 did after BB16

Looking at the actual ratings, I don't think love island is making a difference tbh. Perhaps people just haven't bothered with BB at all because they have LI so maybe airing it somewhere when it's alone in the schedule could benefit it, but I don't know when that would be (unless they axe summer CBB)

It quite clearly is. I don't think it's the only reason why ratings are down and I know they usually air at different times, but keeping up with two daily reality shows at the same time is too much of a commitment for people, and most are choosing LI because it's the newer and better produced show.
Next year they need to listen to people, make sure most/all of the housemates have never been on TV before and show it in February a week after CBB.
If they attracted back the old school fans they've lost over the last few years they could be on par/just a little bit behind Love Island in ratings.

I agree. The daily mail online was absolutely slating BB today (also lying that BB was only getting 500k but that's another story) and almost all the comments were saying they don't watch it anymore because they miss housemates that had never been on TV, better tasks, the chalkboard to order shopping etc.
supertv247
03-07-2017, 11:35 AM
What I meant was that whether BB is on at 9pm and there's no love island, on at 10pm after love island or on at 9pm against love island; it always gets the same rating.
But like you said I think that's because everyone who's watching big Brother is watching it already, there's no one else willing to tune in when they're already watching love island every day.
If anything, this should help CBB because both will end at the same time, with CBB launching and being the only thing then on every night
I think next year they should launch BB at the end of July, run it for 50 odd days then launch CBB for 28 days - this way it would be over by mid October, a few weeks before I'm a celeb, but would also avoid love island completely while still airing during summer when most 'civilian' housemates are free to take part/watch daily without exams etc

I just can't see civilian bb continuing like this. I can't wait until CBB this time.

This is what I can't call. Usually BB has an affect on CBB (BB16 decreases, CBB16 decreased. BB17 Increased, CBB18 increased) so following that I'd expect CBB to be down on last year but I have a feeling it might do really well after most people having not watched BB all summer and love island fans being free

I think that's it tbh Channel 5 have run the show into the ground.....seriously in 6 years we've had 7 civilian BB's and 12 CBB's it's overkill.
CBB20 should have been delayed until January It gives the viewers a break ...actually the whole show should have a break and bring it back with CBB20 in 2021 to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
And for the love of God put it on ITV2!

This series is a C5 version of BB10’s ratings; (at the time, BB10’s ratings were scarily low). I’d say that next year would be the last BB, but I don’t think C5 want to let go of CBB and they can’t have one without the other, so it’s hard to predict.

I mean, you can always throw the argument of lower ratings across the board out there. An episode of Doctor Who only got something like 2.8m this year and that used to get 8m and higher.
Still though, Love Island is getting freakishly high ratings. The thing I don't get is that it gets praised for doing things that viewers of BB always criticise the show for.

I don't remember anyone criticising Big Brother for ever having slick production, or effort being put into it, or good promotion, or a balanced edit, or knowing its audience and format. That's because Big Brother in the last few years has had/done neither of those things whereas LI has. That's why it's rating well.

I like it on itv 2 but if they don't move it to itv then that's foolish
If it was moved to ITV they couldn't show the sex and it will forever be cursed like BB is with warnings and punishments.
ITV2 is where it should stay.

The first series of Celebrity Love Island in 2005 clashed with BB6's first few weeks and it often beat it in the ratings and was getting around 5m whereas BB6 was getting 4m. https://amp.theguardian.com/media/2005/jun/07/overnights
Although the second series in 2006 got like 3m and it flopped against BB7. Also at the time, Love Island generated such a negative publicity for the channel, not only for being an attempt to rival Big Brother (which they wanted at the time), but also because it was really cheap and trashy. That's why it's better on ITV2 tbh, plus it's more of a flagship show over there, whereas with ITV1 it wouldn't be as they already have Corrie, I'm A Celebrity and X Factor.
It's funny how 3m was seen as a flop in 2006, when it's getting like 2m now and it's a success.

I knew it was beating BB6 for a certain amount of time thanks for confirming that.

It's weird because I remember watching BB6 and LI at the same time and I loved them both. They must've rarely clashed

Tonight could be a bad day for ratings. Friday nights never do good, never mind 90 minutes ending at 11:30 - even I'm having to miss it! And the eviction isn't exactly between the most must see people is it.

From Digital Spy
Love Island: 1.88m (10.5%)
Big Brother: 848k (6.5%)
I was expecting like 600k for BB last night because of the later time and also i don't think it was a very eventful episode from what I've heard

The episode was actually one of the best so far IMO but yeah because of the late time and the fact nobody cared about who faced eviction, I thought it would be bad. Staying consistent at 0.85 is good I guess

I suspect a lot of shows got their lowest yesterday, it was too stifling to stay in doors.
The series is now averaging 894k :(

The BBSpy ratings tables are now live:

They show that in total, 2 episodes have been up year on year overnight and no episodes have been up year on year officially..

I'm predicting this series will average 1.15m.
Personally I think for the officials tomorrow, the Monday episode will have gained quite a fair bit (Lotans ejection). Overnight it got 890k. I reckon officials will have it at 1.3m.

Tonight will be bad as I can guarantee that LI Aftersun will beat BB again.
But I reckon we'll see slight increases this week.
I know it means nothing but in terms of week average got overnights, it's climbed 3 weeks in a row

Yes.. it's down on last Sunday by 19k, the Sunday before by 97k and the Sunday before that by 87k so not too drastic

Here is what each episode got officially, with the overnights in brackets then what each episode consolidated.
Mon: 1.23m (884k) +346k
Tue: 1.14m (807k) +333k
Wed: 1.22m (867k) +353k
Thu: 1.20m (948k) +252k
Frid: 1.08m (709k) +371k
Sat: 1.16m (775k) +385k
Sun: 1.11m (819k) +291k
The consolidation average is 333k which is also down yet again...Last year added an average of 460k.

To put it into perspective: last years BB averaged 1.15m OVERNIGHT while this last week of BB has averaged 1.15 OFFICIALLY.....
Next week will have been when annihilation was which averaged 1.24 million overnight.

So overall what’s this series averaging so far?
1.29 million is the running series average.
Previously at week 4;
BB15 - 1.56 (1.59 overall)
BB16 -1.34 (1.36 overall)
BB17 - 1.50 (1.58 overall)
But 15 & 17 pulled Armageddon & Annihilation which gave them a boost, I don't see that happening this time

Mess they should be what the overnights are getting.

These ratings are low, but I’m past caring about them now tbh. They’re not reflecting the quality of this series, it’s just people are tired of BB imo
