The host city for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 has been chosen as Switzerland prepare to welcome Eurovision next year.

Following singer Nemo's victory earlier this year with The Code at Malmö, Sweden, it was confirmed that Eurovision would indeed be heading to Switzerland next year.

Now, it's been confirmed that the Swiss host city will be Basel, the country's third-largest city.

Eurovision itself will take place in St. Jacobshalle, an area just outside of Basel, with a capacity of 12,400.

Timings have also been confirmed in terms of the two 2025 semi-finals and the Grand Final itself.

The two Eurovision 2025 semi-finals will take place on Tuesday 13 May and Thursday 15 May 2025, with the Grand Final on Saturday May 17.

“The EBU is thrilled that Basel has been selected as the Host City for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. The Contest was born in Switzerland in Lugano back in 1956 and it’s great to be bringing it back to its birthplace almost 70 years later,” said Martin Österdahl, Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest.

“Basel's strategic location at the crossroads of Europe makes it the ideal setting for an event that celebrates the power of music to connect people across borders,” Österdahl continued. “Following Contests in the Italian and French speaking parts of the country in 1956 and 1989 we’re also excited to bring the Eurovision Song Contest to German Switzerland for the very first time.”

Switzerland's victory with Nemo in 2024 was the third time the country won Eurovision; Switzerland were actually the winners of the first ever Eurovision in 1956 with Lys Assia's Refrain and again in 1988 with none other than Celine Dion (!) with Ne partez pas sans moi.

If no changes happen, Albania will certainly be one of the first countries to
select its candidate via a national selection. Festivali i Këngës usually happens
by the end of December. Luxembourg should be the next one to hold a
televised event that should happen in January.

Spain's Benidorm Fest will take place on 28, 30 January with its final scheduled
for 1 February. Italy, another country of the Big-5, will hold its long Sanremo
nights from 11 to 15 February. It will also be on 15 February that Lithuania will
pick its representative through Eurovizija.LT 2025. A week later, it will be San
Marino's turn with Una Voce per San Marino 2025.

Portugal should start its search by the end of February and wrap it in March as
well as Denmark that will select its candidate on 1 March. Both countries will
stick with their national selections: Festival da Canção and Dansk Melodi Grand
Prix.

okay then fair enough, i have a ''reputation''

yes let Benjamin manage it, sorry for moaning :douf:

am hoping for Monaco comeback, with their new broadcaster TVMonaco (they even have a budget reserved for eurovision, maybe 2024 was too soon, could see them return this year)

wonder if Xavier Darcy is still interested (he was runner up in the german selection of 2018)
WDzXc4rCy7Y

he said a couple of years ago he wanted to represent monaco

----------------
national finals i usually follow: Albania, Moldova (hopefully they are in and we are treated to their iconic auditions again) Serbia (PZE is a good and better concept than beovizija tbh, but now a bop pls rather than a ballad)

am gonna follow Montesong, hoping we get Dado Polumenta as a interval act

am gonna watch Belgium's Eurosong and i hope they reject Joost Klein :fan: in favor of their own domestic talent

i hope JoJo Siwa is gonna represent Poland :fc: her style is very eurovision friendly (modern times esc friendly)

Ireland i want one of: Cian Ducrot, Dermot Kennedy or Michael Patrick Kelly

UK: Henry Moodie is rumoured but no thank you, i rather want a fun act like Right Said Fred, to give us something more genuine fun, cheesy and eurofriendly rather than Olly's over the top filth

i've given the montesong entries another listen

all in all, a solid national selection, not necessarily good for ESC but their main goal was to give their music scene a boost, and i think they are succeeding at that, quite a diverse line up, lots of different genres represented

as for ESC i think Nina or Durda would be the best choices, Nina would need a revamp with her entry dobrodosli, but Durda i wouldn't change a thing, feels quite genuine and you can hear Kristina Kovac worked on this

my preferred NF winners (so far)

Croatia: Marko Skugor - Sta Da Boga Molim Ja: SORRY NOT SORRY but i am a enormous sucker for traditional balkan ballads, that man has so much warmth, charisma in his wonderful vocals, this song reminds me of something from the likes of Massimo Savic (Rest his Soul) or Tomislav Bralic
---
Malta: Dario Bezzina & Zeppi I-Muni - Ghazliet: maltese ethnic patriotic ballad of wonderfulness and pure magic, also respect for Zeppi, at his age still giving MESC a go, and doing that with a much much younger artist like Dario, great combo of old and young generations music, and that intro by Zeppi those chants are divine

:bawling: two songs which already have me reduced to tears

they fit the scotland clue, they have a new album out The Human Fear, with quite a few possible entries within the required 3.00 length

Nicky91

i personally would get behind the UK then, Franz Ferdinand represent the british music scene quite well (my opinion) in terms of their music being what you hear quite a lot throughout the UK, also in very popular music festivals like Glastonbury

''Hooked'' of theirs would do well, similar-ish sound to Lithuania had few years ago in The Roop

Wait! What Scotland clue? Did i miss something

there has been some cryptic clues going around on social media

it could be a scottish artist, also 1988, and having two massively streamed songs

so could be anyone from KT Tunstall or Calum Scott and now Franz Ferdinand got linked to those clues so far

Bit of a dramatic day yesterday with Moldova withdrawing which was a shame as they potentially had a nice entry and Finland had an act disqualified which would have been their frontrunner and usual 'novelty' entry.

''their frontrunner''

:umm2: i hope you aren't a fan of them though, Mika Lahti is a sick in the head paedophile, even his band mates didn't know about this, and they rightfully kicked him out of the band as well

Moldova got some appeals from some of their contestants though, and their ''frontrunner'' Bacho said he found sponsors to finance participation himself ;)

i won't boo her, and i have a feeling she'll be high up in my ranking, a phenomenal voice she got

also better times for Israel to come i feel it on my water

she can expect to be denied the win by production manipulation. Just like last year.

last year was a outdated ballad been there done that many times before in esc and outside esc

Ukraine 2022 won fair and square also with a fun upbeat party anthem accompanied by solid vocals, variation of strong rapping and traditional chants

so Yuval needs to have something modern, something what makes her vocals shine beautifully without it coming across as outdated, and maybe more hebrew than two pretentious phrases at the end of a song

she really done some really technically difficult songs in that talent show

she and the runner up Valerie Hamaty were a deserving top 2

3rd place was an actual puppet of the Red Band and Moran Aharoni  but not a novelty act like dustin the turkey, but also quite a decent singer, performer

also Yuval's auntie is quite famous, Ronit Raphael, by any chance do you have heard of her? and coincidentally she has her headquarters of her fashion empire in Switzerland too (that is why Yuval lived there for 3 years with her parents)

Sadly, it's not just the talent of the singer that's taken unto account. But let's hope she gets a fair chance. Yes, I have heard of her aunt... Although I didn't realise about the connection.

songs like ''Warrior'' by Demi Lovato, ''Mon Amour'' by Slimane are hard to pull off, the former because Demi herself puts 110% passion, emotion into it, very difficult to doing the same, and the latter, well quite impressive singing in a french while that isn't her native language, and very proper french too which is amazing considering she only lived for 3 years in Geneva

Rhythmic Soulwave's ''Stronger'' as a performance it was a nice show act, but it was more show than song, they are more something for the theatre i think

the gimmick with the butterflies looked stunning tbh

Luzac's ''Je Danse'' also had a neat and very modern looking staging honestly but song wise it was too similar to last years winning song ''The Code''

The one i watched said acoustic version so i don’t know if the actual version is gonna sound different… it’s already sounding like the best of a bad bunch to me though

also don't moan please :notimpressed:

in all seriousness the good entries are likely still to come

Finland: most likely Erika Vikman with ''Ich Komme''

Malta: could be operatic pop ''Heaven Sent'' or ''Lalaratakeke Lalaratakabum'' so both could be very fun

Norway: Bobbysocks comeback possible maybe? or a sort of tribute the weeknd act in Sondrey's ''Vagabond''

Croatia: Magazin comeback (with a different frontwoman Lorena Bucan) or the ethno group Lelek with The Soul of my Soul which sounds like a Go_A song

Poland: Justyna with ''Gaja'' you have there, but also a big name from their theatre and rock scene Janusz Radek with ''In Cosmic Mist'' or the belarusian migrants anthem ''Lusterka''

San Marino: got a strong looking line up of acts too, from many countries across the world as well, Atle Pettersen (a norwegian x factor runner up and two time MGP participant) Teslenko (Vidbir reject) same as fellow ukrainian Grisana with ''Kohobey'' another reject song from this years vidbir wildcard show, and moldovan artist Valleria, and last years albania act Besa who will bring ''Tiki''

i really hope espresso macchiato turns out to be a flop live, and we have anna sahlene or an-marlen from estonia

but that is more wishful thinking i guess :bored: even if Tommy farts on stage he'd still win with the rigged running order too in his favour

everything about espresso macchiato is too monotone for me no offense, and tbh this ''slapstick comedy'' genre is done better by Yolanda Be Cool with We No Speak Americano

yes since semi finals at esc are 100% televote, so jury friendly songs are a risk nowadays if u first have to get past the semi

however those who did survive the semi, some went to do better in the final

Estonia 2023: Alika - Bridges (10th in semi, and did a top 10 in final i thought mainly thanks to a high jury score)

Latvia 2024: Dons - Hollow (scraped through in semi, and went on to do decently in the final with a good jury result)

wonder who of this years will have a similar fate then of barely qualifying and doing better in the final

Queen Erika Vikman finally joining the eurovision family :amazed:

Latvia finally with a song in their native latvian again, Tautumeitas has a somewhat dated yet very lovely song, strong staging too

Malta going with a ***** oh i mean Kant (it means singing in maltese btw and good on eurovision.tv acknowledging that instead of being too PC) it is a nice comedy act with a boppy song

Ukraine with Ziferblat, whom are inspired by The Beatles btw, their song Bird of Pray is in english and in ukrainian, something different than their usual ethno entries but still with some ukrainian anyway for the bit of authentic touch

Benjamin
09-02-2025, 07:56 AM
Finland - it’s upbeat at least. Does seem very dated though and not sure it will fare well.

Latvia - I actually really love this but I fear it’ll get very overshadowed. (Although I said that about Armenia’s Jako and that did well last year)

Malta - I always will Malta to do well but I don’t think this will do well at all if it makes the final.

Ukraine - Meh. It’s very middle of the road. Can’t say I’ll remember this in years to come.

true, but honestly to me it also comes across as a touching tribute to Laika, first dog in space (forced into space by the soviet-union)

my current #1 (12 points) a long while since i had Ireland there honestly, the 2006 contest i think, with Brian Kennedy Every Song is a Cry for Love

Emmy is norwegian btw, but she has a irish songwriter in her team, tbh irish have competed (and won) for Norway before, Secret Garden ;)
