I think Slot made too many changes to Klopps team all in one go. He should have done it gradually.
At least it gives Arsenal fans a moment (considering they never win anything, ever). But they were unbeaten in a season 300 years ago :smug:

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot pinpointed a change in approach from opponents as a factor in the struggles of his Premier League champions this season.
He blamed Man U for their tactics last week. Does he think opposition teams must play the way slot wants them to? :fist::laugh:

He didnt blame them, he made an observation. He's pretty honest i thinkNot really, because there were plenty of points he could have brought up. Liverpool lost only four games last season, but they’ve already lost that many this season. The defense looks a mess; in six out of nine games, they’ve conceded two or more goals. That’s mid-table form, regardless of whether you spend £400 million on players. You can’t put yourself in a position where you need to score a minimum of three goals to win a football match. Instead, he and Carragher chose to complain about set pieces, as if teams need to play a specific style to beat them. Rather than whining, why not focus on how to defend against long balls and set pieces?
People forget that Slot was Liverpool's third choice to replace Klopp, after Xabi Alonso and, surprisingly, Reuben Amorim.
Now, people are realizing that Liverpool's ideal summer transfer windows are filled with replacements. To compare with Arsenal for a moment, only Zubimendi is a direct replacement. Some might argue that Big Vik is a replacement, but if Havertz were fit, Vik wouldn’t have played as many games. Look at Liverpool: Frimpong is replacing Trent, and Kerkez is stepping in for Robbo. Why was Wirtz needed when Szoboszlai is an excellent option as a number 10? Ekitike and Isak—Liverpool didn’t need both, and because Isak cost £100 million, he has to play even though Ekitike is in better form. There are too many replacements, and in my opinion, it’s going to be Christmas or New Year before we see the best from them.
what a game, both spurs and man u are much improved from last season
it's going to be a very interesting season i think. Sunderland are a revalation

Because with all due respect, but they are kind of becoming like the England national team of club Football, it would be good for them to break that curse around them.

TalkSport just discussed the possibility/probability of Liverpool getting Marc Guéhi in the January window ..
The thing that would concern me is that his default/preferred position is left sided centre back the exact same position as VVD !?!

Crazy thing is that if Liverpool can somehow sort things out they could go on a crazy winning streak and challenge for second ..I’m not convinced. They’ve already lost six games this season, and it’s rare for a team to win the Premier League with that many defeats—the last example was Man City in 2020–21. They’ve conceded 20 goals in 12 matches, and so far results have been all or nothing: wins or losses, with no draws to steady things.
That tells you what’s wrong: they need two or three goals to win most games, but the goals aren’t coming. Salah is off form, Isak hasn’t hit the expected levels, and Gakpo’s game is starting to look predictable—he doesn’t have the trickiness they need to unlock defences right now.
Ekitike, who many hoped would spark the attack, isn’t getting minutes, and that’s a problem. Last season’s title charge was built on a 25‑game unbeaten run; with only 12 games played, there are still 26 to go, and that kind of streak needs to start immediately. Until they tighten up at the back and find a reliable way to score, I can see them dropping more points.
At the moment, everything points the same way: they’re struggling to recreate last season’s momentum, and I think they’re out of the title race and should concentrate on top four which is still going to be a challenge

Thing is Manc went on an unprecedented losing streak last season, Liverpool are on one now so it’s possible that Arsenal’s season comes off the rails at some pointI didn't respond as an Arsenal fan; I shared my thoughts as someone who believes Liverpool's season will improve through hard work on the training ground, rather than relying solely on new signings to fix the issues. The goals conceded are a concern that won't be resolved quickly or easily; it will require substantial time and effort on the training pitch.
Regarding Arsenal, they are currently in a strong position, sitting at the top of the table with a slight lead. However, I'm not getting too excited, as they face a challenging away match against Chelsea next, followed by a tough December for all teams. Suppose Arsenal remain at the top when they host Liverpool at the Emirates in early January and manage to secure a win. In that case, we can seriously discuss their chances of winning the league. There's still a long way to go and plenty of football left to play.
i think the balance of probabilities points to arsenal winning the league this season, but i don't think it will be straightforward, it rarely is

Spurs was always gonna lose against Arsenal so why bother to even try your best
Spurs just gotta do enough for a european football ticket next season, and there are many weaker teams in the league, those in the bottom zone basically, so enough chances to get crucial points

What an embarrassing first half from Chelsea UFC and yet another incompetent referee.
I was so looking forward to a game of football but If you have go about things like this then there’s no future for the beautiful game as we know it
Incidentally Fernandez got away with spinning around and punching Mosquera flush on the chin just seconds before the end of the first half. !
So the ref and VAR are gonna ignore Fofana punching Odegard flush in the face in the box ??
Sky saw it clear enough and showed slo-mo replays …

Anthony Taylor should never again ref a Chelsea Match
Chalaboh had a massive bruise where he was elbowed in the face clearly visible when he scored....shocking
That bruise came from an accidental clash earlier on in the game to be fair
Though you are correct in suggesting that Anthony Taylor was totally inept today
Amongst other things he booked Zubimendi for not moving when someone clattered into him .. that led to the influential Zubimendi being substituted so he didn’t get a red card

He was elbowed in the face....Anthony Taylor will always send a Chelsea player off if he can, he is despicably biased
Chelsea would have won if they had 11 men on the pitch, good result for them to keep it level
He was elbowed in the face....Anthony Taylor will always send a Chelsea player off if he can, he is despicably biased
Chelsea would have won if they had 11 men on the pitch, good result for them to keep it level
Well there was no suggestion by anyone that it was a dangerous elbow. .. the guy caught him with a straight arm when they both challenged for the ball - either one could have been hurt - the endless replays showed that .
Also Taylor was clearly biased towards Chelsea - the red card aside he only gave one yellow card to Chelsea despite Cucumbers committing two clear yellow card offences when he was already on a much deserved yellow card - Taylor bottled both offences
Also as I mentioned earlier the referee and VAR completely ignored two clear punches by Fernandez and Fofana - both connected cleanly on Arsenal guys
I did know Arsenal would be blameless, and Chelsea the evil mean thugs (according to our Zizu) but overall the game was testy from the start. Both teams were committing fouls throughout the game. I didn't expect it to be such an ill tempered game tbh, but so much was at stake i suppose, players were tense and really feeling the pressure of the occasion.
Still, decent result for Chelsea, and Arsenal will be happy the didn't lose. Probably a fair result.
The thing is it was a genuine 6 pointer
If Arsenal had of won they would go 9 points clear of Chelsea .. wheras if Chelsea had won the lead would drip to just 3 points
That’s why Chelsea were so desperate to win by any means possible .
The main problem was the weak and inept referee who could have booked cucurella in the first minute or so for chopping Saka down .. he allowed Cucurella to kick and grab all throughout even after his late booking .
He was incredibly biased in Chelsea’s favour
Cucurella was fouling with impunity .. Fernandez was playing like a man possessed
The ref let most things go including the two punches I mentioned earlier but then booked Zubimendi for not moving when someone clattered into him - its not a foul if you just don’t move ffs
He couldn’t play after he was booked and was substituted as Chelsea were trying everything to get someone sent off to even the numbers up ..
I could go on but it’s best I try and erase this mess of a game from my mind ..
Next up Spurs play away to Newcastle UFC
Oh FFS !!!

Chelsea fans countrywide claiming Anthony Taylor had it in for them yesterday despite him having three or four 1 to 1 , face to face conversations with James the Chelsea captain asked him to calm his players down !
The supposedly biased referee went on to book just ONE Chelsea player whilst booking 6 ( SIX) Arsenal players ( one for standing still and one or two for dissent , one for a shirt pull and one for a standard going up for a 50/50 header )
Meanwhile Chelsea were kicking, blockin all throughout plus two clear as punches that were ignored !!

Apart from two or three of our starting 11 no one, we've signed about 15 or 16 players over the summer, It had to be done to give the club any chance of staying up as the premiership is getting tougher every year, It feels weird to say it but I'm actually slightly disappointed with a draw at anfield, we should of nicked the 3 points tonight

it's looking very much like Salah is done at liverpool. I don't think he will play for them again after his outspoken criticism
threw the team under a bus
:umm2:
What a crazy year for Liverpool players and fans !!
I assumed that they would all be highly motivated after the tragic loss of Jota and run away with the league especially after adding 5 ( or 6 ?) fabulous players including arguably the best CF in Isak and the best number 10 in Wirzt .. a top quality keeper and two fantastic fullbacks
Crazily it’s only been the highest risk signing of Ekitike who has been a success though Wirtz has just started to look like he’s settling in .

Kenny Dalglish also fits the profile ''club legend'' both as a player and already having been their manager before?
i'd trust the experience of Dalglish more than throwing Stevie G into this current crisis

Though he’s come out and said he’s very happy at Madrid .. oddly there are rumours suggesting that he will be sacked tonight if they lose against ManC ( entirely possible)

It's bleak, don't think we can survive. Sometimes I feel we're desperately unlucky like tonight thinking we were 2-0 up to it being 1-1 within a couple of minutes then the late penalty which was totally needless and doesn't always get given. But then we've taken no points from Fulham, Wolves and Forest in the last three and haven't won in ten so the table doesn't lie. We are where we deserve to be

It did taper off somewhat but I personally would rather see that kind of play to watching Newcastle and Villa midfielders and defenders kicking anything that moves for 90 minutes
Arsenal showing why they're the most disliked team in the league these days. Disgusting from Martinelli chucking the ball at a player and shoving him off the pitch when he's just suffered a serious knee injury. Seen this sort of thing from Arsenal players often in the last few years. That's at the end of a game they didn't deserve to win as well and put in an insipid performance

In his defence … he was desperate to play on to win the game and when he saw Bradley inch himself back onto the pitch .. he flipped completely and tried to push him off the pitch
He probably thought he wasn’t that bad if he was moving onto the pitch ( it was only a few inches if you watch the replay)
Interestingly Slot was just interviewed on TalkSport and wouldn’t vilify Martinelli - he said that if he knew the lad was injured he wouldn’t have behaved the way he did ..
He said football has brought this on with every team feigning injury and time wasting at the end of a game

Seen this sort of thing from Arsenal players often in the last few years. That's at the end of a game they didn't deserve to win as well and put in an insipid performanceI agree — Martinelli was awful in that moment, and the whole team was too throughout the match.
What really sticks with me is how different this was from the Villa game. Arsenal won that match by coming out flying in the second half, scoring twice, and putting Villa under real pressure.
Against Liverpool, the first 20 minutes after the break were the complete opposite. Liverpool just kept the ball, and Arsenal seemed perfectly happy to let them have it: no press, barely any pressure, no attempt to disrupt their rhythm. And the strange part is that Liverpool weren't even posing a real threat — they were circulating the ball without cutting edge.
That's what makes the tactics even harder to understand. Arteta didn't seem to have a plan for keeping possession, regaining control, or shifting the momentum. It felt passive, almost resigned, and it let Liverpool dictate a game they weren't actually dominating.

first time in 16 years that Victimpool did not have 1 shot on targetYeah, I’m with you — it was such a dull game, and that stat says everything. First time in 16 years that Liverpool didn’t manage a single shot on target, and honestly, that tells you more about Arsenal’s defence than anything else. If Arsenal do end up winning the league, it’ll be because of that back line and how solid they’ve been all season.
But the tactics worry me. Letting the opponent just keep the ball for long stretches at home, especially when they’re not offering any real threat, feels like a dangerous way to play. It hands control away for no reason, and it’s not the kind of approach that wins tight title races. The defence bailed them out tonight — the rest of the setup didn’t.

I actually think Liverpool should have had a penalty when Wirtz was bodychecked in the boxI agree to an extent, but I’m still sceptical that those tactics were what the moment demanded. Champions — at least in my view — have to prove they’re strong front‑runners. This felt like the game where, if Arsenal were top and won it, we could finally say they’re ready to lead from the front and have a serious conversation about them winning the league.
But they didn’t win, so that conversation has to wait. There’s still work to do, especially with Forest coming up and the FA Cup distraction in the mix. The players need to switch on and stop letting teams just keep the ball at the Emirates. That passive approach isn’t going to get them over the line.

Arsenal taking the point is fine, but it’s still frustrating when you look at the context. Liverpool have conceded 28 goals this season, and only United, Fulham, and the bottom six have let in more. With a defensive record that shaky, it’s genuinely disappointing that Arsenal have failed to score against them in both matches. That’s why I keep coming back to the tactics. Arsenal never really imposed themselves, never forced Liverpool’s back line into mistakes, and never created the kind of sustained pressure you’d expect against a team that vulnerable. When a defence that leaky keeps you out twice, it’s hard to blame the finishing — the approach just wasn’t right, and that’s where the responsibility lies.
Amazing to think 5 weeks ago Chelsea were supposedly in a title race, talk about falling off a cliff. Ridiculous

Manchester City have drawn their last three matches, yet no one is calling them “bottle jobs.” If Arsenal put together the same run, that label would be everywhere — and in fact, I’ve already seen people saying Arsenal “bottled it” after last night.
Last season, Liverpool won the league with 84 points — the lowest winning total since Leicester — and still finished ten points ahead of Arsenal. This season, projections suggest that 84 points won’t be enough, with the title likely requiring something closer to 87 or more. Yet no one described Liverpool’s title as a “poor season” or questioned the standard of the league.
Meanwhile, people are already suggesting that if Arsenal win the league this year, it will somehow be a weak or unimpressive title. The inconsistency is obvious, and the bias against Arsenal is hard to ignore.
