The police deserve much more respect in this country, too many people take for granted the simple and more demanding jobs that they do day to day to keep us and our streets safe.
Sometimes they can be ****ing ridiculous though; my brother got fined for riding his bike on the pavement up a hill where you can't see what's coming on the road, no pedestrians around, no danger or whatever but he got fined for trying to keep himself safe lol. But yeah, I do respect the police, but sometimes the authority goes to their heads. I also think too many people are too quick to shout 'police abuse' aswell however; the police in this country should use their force (rightly) to enforce their position without having to worry about somebody pressing charges or whatever. |

It's a job I could never do, I'm too impulsive and volatile, so for that reason I do respect them. Knowing full well I could never do it. But in the same breath I have been badly disrespected by them too. When a man attempted to rape me I was told by a male seargent it was my fault. So .... well it's 50/50 with me

I've only ever had correspondence with the police once, personally, but found them to be really understanding, patient, helpful and have no complaints about the way they treated me. Another time a group of friends and I were going to an under 18s gig and we were standing outside our school with a few plastic bags filled with glowsticks and the like, the police came over to us and searched the bags 'cause they thought we had booze and were pleasantly surprised to discover we didn't, they said it made a nice change.

If the Police have lost the respect of the public, blame the interference of politicians, the PC brigade and the ridiculous demands of the Human Rights legislation which is heavily geared towards the rights of perpertrators of crime rather than their victims. Commonsense has gone out of the window these days as the Police faff around like bluearsed flies trying to uphold the law without upsetting the various communities and ethnic groups.
When did Policing change from an Institution designed to protect us all against the bad guys, to an Institution too frightened to upset the bad guys in case of public censure and cynical compensation cases? Respect the Police? Maybe not wholeheartedly any longer because of the encroachment of political ideology into the way the Institution is run, but do I admire those who choose to do such a difficult and thankless job? Hell yes, they deserve our support. After all, what else stands between the bad guys and the rest of us? |

Some Corrupt officers are. But Many Officers are Decent and Good Coppers. Kerry when you start a thread on this section it is best to have a Link - If possible. With respect Kerry, its a very lazy way to post if you just do a bland line. |

Pretty much sums up the Police for me. Notice how they were looking for an excuse to arrest him when they were made to look like fools.

^ To be fair, if you're going to film the police, for whatever reason, they should be notified. Otherwise you should expect them to come and ask what they're doing.
Before he started getting all defensive, they hadn't even said anything was going to happen to him for filming them, they only said it was an offence, he was making it worse for himself and this is the kind of **** that people always make a massive meal out of and end up looking like knoblords. "Yeah he's in his own garden, minding his own business and the police have come over here intruding on my privacy" LOL, what about their privacy while you were filming them, if he hadn't have done that none of this would have happened. If he hadn't have been such a defensive ***** like a lot of people are when anything to do with the police is involved, then it wouldn't have escalated into what it did. |

If someone was filming me without my permission, own garden or not, I'd be straight over there wanting to know what his game was and insisting he delete the film. For what reason would he be doing it other than to be confrontational? Furthermore, the guy's attitude was provocative and insolent from the off, a typical chavvy wiseguy a*sehole, which only other likewise a*seholes would be defending.

They're police, they're filmed all the time, I'm sure they'd live. He was only in his garden and didn't say anything before they came over.

Yes in general I do, obviously there will be a few bad apples but that's the same with every profession. They have a hard job and alot of times a thankless job. It's the justice system I have a problem with, the police go to the trouble of finding and arresting criminals and they're let off by the courts with a slap on the wrist.

It depends on the individual, I couldn't classify them on a whole.

In my experience, they are crap.(though I'm sure all arent the same)
Dont turn up when you need them, but happen to be there at everytime you dont. And Im positive some of them just look for any reason to arrest/fine people. Last edited by Vicky.; 18-01-2011 at 03:27 PM. |

i haven't had any respect for the police since they came to my house, put me under arrest for no reason, pinned me to a van roughly, which obviously then i got mad and then decided it was for public disorder when they were the ones who caused it. ****ing ridiculous.

Again, this is down to the Government setting performance quotas for the police which inevitably means that officers have to actively seek to fulfil those quotas, and the easiest way to do so is to pick on soft targets like motorists for example! If an officer persistently fails to meet the quotas set, it can adversely affect their careers.

NO.
They're ******ing bastards. Constantly getting involved in bollocks when it doesn't concern them, favouring one religion [cough, protestant, cough] and abusing the other at every given chance. The Annual 12 Of July Riots/Marches being a perfect example. Also at the Student Protests, I realise in England it got out of hand before the police turned up. Here however, Students were fine and weren't harming anything but traffic, boo hoo take a short cut if it's holding your bus up, but there was no need to bring in dozens of Police Officers to stick their dicks in it and start fighting. And then have the cheek to blame it on the students. They also seem to abuse their power aswell, there's been plenty of news stories about some of them beating and killing innocent by passers for no reason what so ever, One was actually posted on TiBB one time. And at the student protests, they arrested a woman just for walking out of M&S in the middle of the fight. I remember a few years back aswell on the 12th July, I was watching the riots with alot of other people and decided to go and see if the chippy was open down the street. It wasn't, but when walking back the police shoved pass us and shouted for us to get out of the road, when we weren't even on the ******ing road. Probably because my friend was wearing a Celtic top, but hey.

This happens quite a lot, I agree(not with protestants though that I have seen, more with ethnic minorities over here...out of curiosity, how do the police know who is catholic and who is protestant?)
Probably more to do with the fact that they are **** scared that the minority will file for racism or something... Last edited by Vicky.; 18-01-2011 at 04:24 PM. |

Sorry, I just don't see why I have to respect these people if they don't respect anyone else but certain people.
And yes I do respect some people.
