Exactly. People had the same opinions before women were treated even slightly equally here, it was seen as terrorism.

I think she's made a bit of a martyr out of herself for nothing here. They aren't going to change their ways at this time over some 'westerner' in their eyes who will probably be seen to be sticking her nose into their affairs. It's people with more clout who should be doing this.....or at least more than just her on her own. |

Iran is an oppressive, country with draconian laws run by an Islamic extremist tyrant, and I, for one, hope that this brave girl's stance is the small fissure in the dam which will keep growing larger, until, one day - hopefully not too long in coming - the entire evil dam collapses. In the meantime I pray that she arrives back to her home here in Britain, safe and sound. (And this is the type of barbaric regime that some on here would allow to eventually be installed in Britain rather than fight these madmen now in Syria in an attempt to stop them?) |

Yes it does seem that way, I would fear for her if she keeps up the hunger strike, don't think the Iranian's would give into it without a lot of pressure from Britain which might not count for much either
It is quite Suffragette-esque, some of those women went on hunger strike here after being arrested and would be force fed |

Yes you must obey their laws, but people have protested for equality for hundreds of years, many acts of rebellion have succeeded and lead to great things for the World, if someone is brave enough to stand up, to try and be counted and to try and make a positive change, then i congratulate them, they shouldn't be called stupid, or looked down upon as someone wasting their time, if this woman was protesting for woman's rights, then i applaud her.. but if she was arrested due to to an innocent mistake, then she's just a bit dim and the country itself is to blame.

The only ways to change unfair laws in any Country without democracy and civil liberty, are by protest or revolution.
In fact, Iran already had another set of laws when it was Persia, and didn't Higher Troller Kumbarmy disobey all those laws to take over and install his own draconian laws by violent imposition? At least this poor girl only attempted to change one (ridiculous) law, and her only weapon was a peaceful, token protest. |
