Wink Would you push the button?

Here is the situation. There is a big fat red button right in the centre of a small room you are standing in. You know that if you press this button you will net yourself £1,000,000. You can press this button as many times as you like, each giving you the same amount of cash, but in doing so there is 1/10,000 chance one of your closest relatives or partner will die every time you press it.

Do you take the risk and press the button? If so, how many times? Or if not, what if the situation was different and only people who you didn't know could die instead?

Think about the situation carefully before answering please.

Probably yeah. I'm an awful person and don't really have emotional attachments to people.

I wouldn't push the button if I knew one of my family members or partner would die, absolutely not. But I'd push it till I was a bazillionaire, if I knew only random people would die. I'd be too busy drinking champaign to feel any guilt.

Oscar Wilde once said: 'The best way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it' so I'd definitely push it once. So I'd get a million. But what can you do with a million today ? Not much anylonger.
And after all, it's only a 1/10,000 chance so I could push it plenty if times before someone I love dies.

And to people who say money isn't everything, go and tell that to a blue collar worker who kills his ass off to earn barely £1000 per month. You'll see what he tells you.

To me, money is everything. It might not buy love, yet you feel much better when you have money OR if money doesn't buy happiness, then give it to me, I want to be unhappy.

^ Money does buy happiness, thats a load of bollocks those who say it doesn't. It buys peace of mind, which in turn makes you happy.

I didnt read any of the other answers, so going with gut instinct. Given the situation, I would press it once.
There is no way I am greedy enough to want more than a million. BUt for the first million, I think I would do it, given those odds.
YOu have to understand, those are really, really small odds!!!
But I just wouldnt take any chance after Ive already got a million.

I agree Remy. Money is very important and I believe it does buy happiness or at least it rids of a lot of worry and problems we face today. I think many people would be tempted to push this button more than once. We are greedy after all.

The truth.
I'm quite happy with the situation my parents are in, they both are great jobs, I was never in need of anything so people who think I'd have been more happy with less money are definitely wrong.

It buys you comfort maybe, but not if there's no peace of mind there to begin with. You'd be surprised at how many grumpy or dissatisfied people who end up winning money fall back into the habit of being grumpy or depressed.

So do sports man, celebrities etc...but it's only because they couldn't manage all of this. A lot of people are VERY VERY rich yet you don't hear from them as they don't expose themselves and they live quite happily.
What you need is a good financial adviser (I can give you my Dad's phone number if you want lol), some lost beach in Oceania, a nice girlfriend and that's it.

People need to stop thinking life is like a romantic movie. Life is a porn film.

We are living in a material world and you are a material fella. lol. You know what people usually say when they're on their deathbeds? They don't regret the money they made or didn't make, the status they attained in life or the depths of financial ruin they sank to. What they regret is not connecting more with people and telling the people they care about that they loved them with all their hearts. Making a difference in others lives. I find that interesting.
