Coffee has lots more caffeine than tea. I think tea is more of a comforting habit than addiction.

Tea still has plenty of caffine in it. But not as much as coffee.
I like to drink normal tea in the morning and green tea in the evening! Green tea does not have caffine so it won't keep me awake! |

"Although tea contains more caffeine than coffee (by dry weight), a typical serving contains much less, as tea is normally brewed much weaker. Besides strength of the brew, growing conditions, processing techniques- and other variables also affect caffeine content. Certain types of tea may contain somewhat more caffeine than other teas. Tea contains small amounts of theobromine and slightly higher levels of theophylline than coffee. Preparation and many other factors have a significant impact on tea, and color is a very poor indicator of caffeine content. Teas like the pale Japanese green tea gyokuro, for example, contain far more caffeine than much darker teas like lapsang souchong, which has very little."

All teas of the Camellia family have caffeine to some extent, its a naturally occurring chemical compound that is formed in plants. That includes red, white, black, yellow, green, post fermented, Kukicha and Oolong.

Yes you can become addicted to tea, it doesnt have as much caffeine as coffee per serving and its absorption into the body is slower, so it doesnt give you the same hit.
However addiction to tea is no less real than addiction to coffee both in physical and psychological addiction terms. |

Tea keeps you awake for longer. Coffee wakes up up the first 10 minutes but then you feel really tired afterwards.

Coffee has alot more caffeine in it, Tea barley has any. Caffeine keeps you awake. That's why in Horror movies and stuff like A Nightmare On Elm Street, It'd be a shock if you didn't see at least 3 cast members drinking tons of coffee to keep them awake. I mean you honestly wouldn't see one of Freddy Krueger's victims with a box of PG Tips beside their bed.

Are you really using A Nightmare On Elm Street as a citation point for the science behind caffeine? Last edited by Stu; 16-01-2011 at 01:16 AM. |

If you drank alot of that, without sugar, would it fail to keep you awake aswell? Yeah I was, But now I'm abit pissed I have and I'm actually starting to disbelieve everything I learnt from those films. I'm going to question every scene the next time I watch it now.

No. 'Yes' if you want to be pedantic but no. Not in real world terms. You wont 'crave' a hit of the aul tea in the addiction sense. You're not going to suck cock for a mug of tea. It's a comfort, as Zippy said. A comfort anyone would easily, easily get over if forced to.
I don't even think it qualifies as a 'mental' addiction. |
