Ours usually only get announced like the week before because it's usually one of the bottom placers from that year's TXF (see: 2011 was The Risk, 2012 was Kye Sones etc.)

The only famous people who've ever been to our town are Tom Hardy (came for a motorcycle lesson but got hassled by mums on the school run) and Carl King from Emmerdale who opened the new Poundland, have a photo with him somewhere!

My town got a bit of media attention last year because Lindsey Lohan said she'd switch our lights on via Twitter, but we ended up with ... Heather from Eastenders.
This year I think we have James Acaster, who's from here and went to my school and is a standup comedian who ends up on the odd comedy panel show.

I don't know about this year but last year it was Gary and Paul O'Donovan, those rowers from Cork that got a silver medal at the Olympics

(also, I often wonder if those big switches actually do anything, or if they're symbolic and someone pushes the real button when the guest pushes theirs)

I always think it'd be much nicer to have a kid turn them on, like a little boy or girl whos not well from a local hospital. Imagine how much it would mean to them to be switching on the lights - Celebs only do it for attention and money

I don't really think it's a thing in my city in Portugal, but Paw Patrol is doing it in the city I'm from in Ireland.
