Leo Varadkar has lost a lot of ground since his disastrous speech saying the young could get deposits from their parents or move abroad to work so they could save up

That idiotic speech probably means that he'll win the Election going by how Politics has been going since 2010.

![]() Interestingly though, even though it's a "shock" result which seems to be following suit of other western countries, rather than going more right we're going more left

There are no right wing parties in Ireland are there, both FF and FG are pretty much the same, both Centre, Labour I guess would be left, not sure about the smaller parties?

Yep, Mary Lou topped hers though
![]() Not really, FF & FG are pretty centre(although a little right leaning), I'd say most of the smaller parties are more left wing so ideally it would be Sinn Fein with some of them but they won't have enough numbers I'd say

They're ahead in opinion polls, they're at 25%, Fianna Fail are 23% and Fine Gael are at 21%. They dont have enough candidates running though. No doubt it will end up with a Fianna Fail lead government and that rat Micheàl Martin as Taoiseach. Shame as I really like Mary Lou would much rather Leo again though than Micheàl.

It more to do with their policies and younger voters who do not associate Sinn Fein with the IRA anymore

I mean it's to do with wanting someone completely different in there, lets be honest here, Fianna Fail and Fine Gael may as well be the same party and they certainly know how to look after themselves and their cronies. Sinn Fein just offer something completely different ad people are curious to see how they would do. We've never ever had anyone other than Fianna fail or Fine Gael run the country, I'd like to see them have a shot at it. It's almost impossible for that to happen though because they don't have enough people running and the bigger parties won't get into bed with them

I wouldn't really know how similar those were tbh Arista as I didn't live under their governments but the impression I get from an outsider looking in on your news, forums etc is that Labour is left leaning and Conservatives are more right? Where as I'd consider both Fianna Fail and Fine Gael to be quite Centre(maybe a little right leaning compared to other parties in Ireland) with very little difference in their policies and goals

Yeah I know, I think they have 42 candidates running and you'd need around 80 to have a majority so It's almost guaranteed to be Fianna fail or Fine Gael

With Labour and the Conservatives running the country you mean? You've still not had a third party come through and really upset that status quo though, have you?
