Default Top London private school to allow boys to wear skirts

Highgate School plans to bring in uniform rules allowing boys to wear skirts
The school, which charges fees of £20,000 a year, is set to make the change as pupils are 'questioning their gender identity'
Children are already allowed to request that staff address them by a name of the opposite gender
Reaction from former pupils is mixed, with one telling MailOnline he thinks it is 'good thing' but that there are 'bigger issues to focus on'

Part of me feels like if a child wants to wear a skirt, their parents should deeply consider moving them out of an "all-boy-school". But theres no reason for this rule to not be in place in every school imo

Yes... kids in school need another reason to pick on someone who's different.

I don't see why skirts should be allowed though if it's not actually part of the uniform, pants are unisex anyway, my daughter wears a pants to school as part of her uniform

Because I was bullied mercilessly at school and I don't want to see others, kids who already have issues, be opened up to that. The world is not perfect and kids are cruel. All the good intentions in the world won't change that. Living your life however you want comes at a cost. Sometimes it's a very high cost.

That just sounds like letting bullies win because its easier. I'm glad the school didnt take this stance. You should be fighting for anti-bullying policies being more heavily enforced, as should everybody else. its a more difficult challenge, but its undeniably the better thing to do.

People shouldn't have to make sacrifices because of bullies, it sounds like giving up and letting them win to me.

Well yes, obviously that's the aim. Until then... until the world is a utopia of understanding, then kids will still be bullied. Wear trousers. It seems such a small thing to do... or, wear a skirt and hope that because until anti-bullying policies are complete and fool proof because that's the better thing to do, kids will still be bullied... bullied at school, bullied on their way home, cyber bullied.... Honestly, I don't want anyone to go through what I went through.

I understand your point, i think it will be unanimously shared by everybody in the world pretty much.
I dont like your method. Its more of a "stop hitting yourself, you big dumb idiot" approach

I have no idea why they changed it. Suppose uniforms change all the time or your daughter would also be wearing a bonnet. Probably just trying to be more modern.

Not at all... if boys identify as female, they could still wear trousers. Women wear trousers. I agree everyone should be free to express themselves - well, in this country, we're lucky to have the freedoms we have - but I don't agree with giving the bullies ammunition.

Well it isn't usual for boys to wear skirts in everyday life, lets be honest so it was obviously down to pressure from someone demanding they be accommodated for eventhough wearing a pants would accommodate anyone in reality. Anyway, I couldn't give a s**te what people wear but lets call a spade a spade here, this was done for attention

I hate this line of argument. If social norms are never challenged, bullying will continue. The more something becomes socially acceptable, the less likely it'll be used as ammunition for bullies. If a kid wants to wear a skirt and doesn't care what anyone else thinks, then all power to them.

I understand your concern, and all students wearing trousers makes sense to me too. Some schools just want to give students more options.
I think the option to wear skirts will become increasingly common in the next decade, so common that it probably wouldnt even phase a bully. And then where are we in ten years? Somewhere a hell of a lot more accepting of gender issues than now. This school is one of the first (but not the first i dont think?). And more will be coming, so idk. Prepare?
