Question Do you have good judgement of character?

Do you always end up being friends with people who disappoint you or behave unexpectedly toxic or do you generally realise when to cut people off if they are unsavoury?

I feel like I am generally good at judging what kind of person is after a short conversation, especially by looking at their eyes, for some reason I can get a feeling if the person is worth making an effort for.

I think most people think they are good but in my experience most people are pretty hopeless

just look at how many neighbours say on TV "well he was a nice quiet man who kept himself to himself, very polite" when they dig up 22 decomposing prossies from his patio

I try not to judge anyone when I first meet them and form an opinion over time as they may just be having an off day etc but that's kinda impossible but I'm pretty awful overall at judging people when I first meet them and I always get them wrong so I try and give everyone a chance to prove me wrong

Sometimes and sometimes not I can't imagine anyone goes through life without being let down at some point by a friend or family member

Thing is, as you are growing up you just end up with people, like your family and friends from when you didn't know any better. Once I realised I could be picky about who I considered family and chose my friends with the intention of long lasting friendships then I think I've had a good streak.

Yes. But then overall I don't see it as a special gift of being able to judge people's true characters, I just think actual arseholes have very little ability to cover up the fact they are an abhorrent piece of sh*t and give themselves away fairly quickly.

The second someone tells you that "you seem like a good judge of character..." you should be IMMEDIATELY suspicious of their character and what they want from you .

.....yeah I would probably agree with that, TS...

...over-thinking maybe but I don’t generally in ‘good or bad judge of character’...when it comes to an instant or immediate judgement thing...if something about someone’s character when we first meet them doesn’t in some way ‘sit right’, then there is usually some kind of ‘bad association’ we feel when we don’t even realise it...someone or something which has hurt us in the past and there are things about the person that we’re associating and sub consciously pulling from that...which may be completely unfounded because these things can be so minor...anyways, when we have those ‘first imprssions’ of good or positive then the tendency is to focus on the good and positive...so not be ‘looking’ for other stuff more...so thinking we have been a good judge of character..?...and the same with the opposite of maybe a negative experience association..?...so looking (..sub-consciously..)...for the negative stuff...which is always there with everyone if it’s looked for and focused on, if that makes sense...so yeah...we just basically live and learn with everyone in our lives through our experiences with them and are neither good or bad judges of character...generally imo...

Nah, a bit like Niamh. However, a lot of people don't give off their true characters when you first meet them. Most people don't like me when I first meet them as I am really quite shy but I can come over quite stand offish, but once I feel more comfortable I am a joy to be around

I try to give most people a chance, particularly if they return the favour
